The street names in the town of Volyně

This diploma thesis deals with names of streets, squares, embankments and parks in the town Volyně in the district of Strakonice. Based on archival sources, it researches the development of the local street names in seven historical periods since the first designation in 1871 to the present. In every period the names are organized into a dictionary that explains their semantic motivation. A classification according to particular semantic categories is included, too. Attention is paid to the development of honorific motivation in street designation which means giving names of significant personalities, historical events, places and values that mostly have no connection with the designated place. The final part analyses the formation of both present and defunct street names and brings their structural classification. The aim of the diploma thesis is to explore systematically the designations of streets in Volyně and their development, and thus contribute to the knowledge of the local toponymy and the history of the town.
Compound Nouns (type V+N) in the Present-day French

This Bachelor´s thesis deals with compound nouns V+N in the Present-day French. The aim of this paper is to describe French compounds V+N, to find them in the corpus and to make a comparison to Czech equivalents. This thesis is divided into two main parts. The first part presents French compounds and their classifications according to different linguists. It is concluded by detailed description of coumpounds V+N. The second part is practical and it is analysis composed by using parallel corpus InterCorp. It includes comparison of found French compounds V+N to Czech equivalents in terms of word formation.
Diminutive suffixes
ŠMEJKALOVÁ, Svatava
This thesis deals with the process of diminutive alteration in Italian language. The alteration is the process which creates diminutives mainly from nouns, but also from another parts of speech. It is a highly productive tool for word formation in Italian and in Czech language too. The thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical one. In the first part, the term of diminutive alteration is defined, using the specialized literature, and the process of formation of diminutives in Italian is also described in this part. One part compares the formation of diminutives in Italian and in Czech language. The second part deals with the analysis of a sample of Italian diminutives. The analysis concentrates on the productivity of suffixes, on a characterization of basis and their combination. There is a description of the behaviour of the suffixes and there are introduced the examples of use of the diminutives and their meaning. The aim of the thesis is to find characteristic qualities and behaviour of the diminutive suffixes and to describe the process of alteration.
Feminization of the names of professions in the contemporary French

The diploma thesis deals with problems connected to the formation of feminine names of occupations in contemporary French. The theoretical part is devoted to the evolution of feminism not only in the French Republic, gender questions, particularly in relation to the language, and the language policies of France. Furthermore, it is aimed at word-formative possibilities of contemporary French for the derivation of names of occupations, functions, degrees and ranks. A part of it deals with the situation in several francophone countries. The objective of the practical part is to assess the relation between the political desiderata of the French Republic and the real language usage on the basis of a corpus analysis effected in the Frantext database and Google Web Search.
Creation of Diminutives and Augmentatives in the Present-Day French

This thesis deals with the formation of diminutives and augmentatives in the present-day French. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part there are explained the basic notions, such as: word, word formation processes, especially the derivation. Then the list of all augmentative and diminutive French suffixes is given. The practical part consists of two parts. At first there are presented all the French words ending with the diminutive and augmentative suffixes, found in the French electronic dictionary Le Petit Robert. Then, there is a research made in a parallel language corpus Intercorp. This research is based on the comparison of the formation of diminutives and augmentatives in French and in Czech. The aim is to introduce the formation of diminutives and augmentatives in French and then compare it with the Czech language.
The Minor Place-Names in the Cadastral Area Vlhlavy and Malé Chrášťany

This bachelor thesis deals with minor?place names, which means names of uninhabited natural objects and phenomena in the landscape that include names of waters, shapes of the earth?s surface segmentation, grounds and waysides. The aim of the work is to collect the minor?place names in the cadastral area of Vlhlavy and Malé Chrášťany that represent the local parts of the municipality Sedlec in the district of České Budějovice. These names are collected from written sources and from interviews with witnesses in both villages. The collected material is organized into a dictionary that analyses the derivational structure and the semantic motivation of each name. The complex of names is also classified three ways according to various criteria. The aim of the bachelor thesis is to complete the material of minor?place names from the area where the inventory of the Topographic Commission of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in 1979 didn?t collect the appropriate complex of names, and to contribute partially to the Czech toponymic research.
The Professional Speech and Slang of Musicians

The analysis of musicians{\crq} professional speech is the subject of this thesis. The main stress is put to the profiling of various ways the professional speech vocabulary is being enriched: by taking over expressions from foreign languages, semantic forming of lexical units (metaphor, metonymy) and creation of new words. Therefore, the attention is also focused on the word-building structure of the lexical units. Also, the presence or absence of the expressive token is being observed. The goal of the work is to draw attention to the vocabulary of musicians{\crq} professional speech from the linguistical point of view. The explanatory directory of terms used by musicians during excercise of their profession is the integral part of the work. For easier orientation, the index is also included.
Linguistic analysis of baroque text

Following academic work is aimed at the language analysis of the baroque text "The Garden locked throuhg the silence for St. Jan Nepomuk`` from P. M. Auspitzler. The work is based mainly on theoretic findings, with which it works onward and shows some practical examples to them, chosen through the punctual analasis of the text. The goal of this work is to capture and describe the wide spectrum of various language phenomenons and interests, thus the text is being explicated from the morphological or wordbuilding aspect. But it is not neccessary to analyse all these branches in a complex way, in some cases I focus only on specific section of set branch. Of course the reader will be acquainted with more general information about the text and it´s author as well.
Surnames in English and Czech - Word-Formation Processes

This Diploma Thesis (=DT) deals with processes of word-formation which bring about surnames in the English and Czech languages. On the basis of the analysis of the particular amount of surnames it aims to assess, which word-formation processes come into the creation of surnames. The DT is divided in two parts {--} theoretical and practical - and it is completed by the conclusion. The theoretical part investigates and compiles the subjects of word-formation and processes of word-formation in both languages, describes the origin of English and Czech surnames and evokes the subject of the processes of word-formation that come into the creation of surnames in English and Czech. The practical part is based on the analysis of the surnames that were chosen from the Prague and London telephone book by arrangement with the tutor of the DT. In the final part the author presents the conclusions of the research.
Kinds of words and vocabulary at elementary school

The thesis deals with questions of word class and word-forming subject matter in the school teaching of the Czech language at the infant school. It focuses on both course books analysis of three various publishers from the monitored thematic point of view and insight into class practice of the current school. The theoretical part of the thesis specializes in questions from the scientific point of view, the formal part solves problems of existing subject matter at the infant school and gives analysis of the course books of the Czech language for the infant school. The principal of the thesis is a research of knowledge associated with classifying of word class in both 5th and 6th class of the basic school.
