Ecotoxicology of nanoparticles
Vavrčíková, Veronika ; Vávrová, Milada (referee) ; Zlámalová Gargošová, Helena (advisor)
This thesis deals with the characterization of nanoparticles, their behaviour and ecotoxicity in the environment. A brief description of nanotechnology is given together with the overview of the most commonly used nanoparticles in industry, medicine and other applications. Their sources and their fate in the environment are further described. Possibilities of ecotoxicological testing of the most commonly used nanoparticles with the most frequent occurrence in the environment are evaluated. At the same time sufficiency of currently used ecotoxicological test is assessed and necessity of their modification owing to the specific characteristics of nanoparticles is discussed.
Waste water toxicity.
Urminská, Barbora ; Vávrová, Milada (referee) ; Zlámalová Gargošová, Helena (advisor)
The theoretical thesis is focused on evaluation of toxicity of wastewaters and effluents and also on specification of legislative requirements related to the subject. As the negative effects of effluents on receiving water do not always depend on presence and concentrations of toxic chemicals contained in the effluent, analyses of physical and chemical parameters only is not sufficient and does not provide adequate results. The aim of the thesis is to show the importance of using ecotoxicological biotests as a necessary part of whole effluent toxicity assessment and to describe approaches to this testing in the European Union countries.
Evaluation of ecotoxicity of selected chemicals with using algal test.
Kosárová, Hedvika ; Pavlovský, Jiří (referee) ; Doležalová Weissmannová, Helena (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the ecotoxicity of 2 - [(2,6-dichlorophenyl)aniline] benzene acetic acid (diclofenac), ?-methyl-4-(2-methylpropyl) benzene acetic acid (ibuprofen) and mixture of cadmium and diclofenac and studies the above using algal toxicity test in accordance with ISO 8692. The theoretical part describes the issue of pharmaceuticals in the environment, and characteristics of standards algae tests and alternative tests. Freshwater green algae Desmodesmus subspicatus were used as testing organisms in all the implemented algal toxicity tests. By the means of these tests, the IrC50 values for the standard substance potassium dichromate, the drugs diclofenac and ibuprofen and cadmium were determined. The toxicity of cadmium in mixture with diclofenac was also evaluated.
The problems of interaction testing compounds in ecotoxicology.
Pavlíčková, Ivana ; Pavlovský, Jiří (referee) ; Doležalová Weissmannová, Helena (advisor)
Bachelor thesis summarizes current knowledges of the problems of interaction of tested compounds and the determination of ecotoxicity. The work deals with the evaluation of ecotoxicity of binary mixtures of substances, toxic metals, or biologically active substances. The work is a brief summary of ecotoxicity tests used.
Importance of contact tests of ecotoxicity
Modlitbová, Pavlína ; Doležalová Weissmannová, Helena (referee) ; Zlámalová Gargošová, Helena (advisor)
This bachelor thesis is dealing with an issue of contact tests of ecotoxicity and their importance for solid matrices testing as wastes, contaminated soil etc. According to the requierements of current legislative, ecotoxicity of these materials is evaluated only for results obtained with testing their water leach. Need of insertion ecotoxicity contact tests into mandatory set of tests is discussed in thesis, because current set of tests is relevant only for water ecosystem and does not support sufficient prediction for eventual ecotoxicologic impacts for terrestrial ecosystem.
Ecotoxicity of substances with hormonal effect
Cvikýřová, Zuzana ; Vávrová, Milada (referee) ; Zlámalová Gargošová, Helena (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the fate and ecotoxicity of chosen substances with hormonal effect in the environment. This group of compounds covers steroid hormones, which are produced for these effects, but also a lot of xenobiotics, showing similar activity. The substances disrupt the endocrine system by various mechanisms. They can cause feminization, masculinization, disruption of reproduction, etc. In terms of chemical structure they belong to the group of phthalates, polychlorinated biphenyls, pesticides, heavy metals and others. The impact of these substances, especially on the aquatic ecosystem, which becomes their reservoir in most cases, was assessed.
The importance of algal tests for ecotoxicological evaluation
Chovanec, Petr ; Zlámalová Gargošová, Helena (referee) ; Doležalová Weissmannová, Helena (advisor)
This bachelor thesis is aimed at the study of algal tests. Within the frame of this thesis I have performed a literature research into findings about all possibilities algal tests in ecotoxicity. This work is engaged in short description green algae, as a testing organisms and their usage for ecotoxicological evaluation.
The usage of OECD tests for determination of waste ecotoxicity
Zálešáková, Ludmila ; Zlámalová Gargošová, Helena (referee) ; Bednařík, Karel (advisor)
In my bachelor thesis I consern myself with tests of waste ecotoxicity that are recommended by OECD. The main purpose of the thesis is to characterize these tests and compare them from the application aspect. The thesis presents OECD, its establishment and relation to the Czech Republic. Waste problems are discussed here too. Fundamental terms in this field, sorts of waste and its origin are defined here. The main attention is focused on ecotoxicological tests that are characterized according to their application, implementation and testing organism.
Development of a new methodology for solidification products made of hazardous waste durability evaluation
Hodul, Jakub ; Donát, Pavel (referee) ; Drochytka, Rostislav (advisor)
This thesis deals with a new methodology of durability evaluation of solidification product prepared from hazardous waste based on a review of the current state assessment of stabilized/solidificated wastes. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the current knowledge from the field of the stabilization/solidification and to draft the optimal methodology for experimental verification of solidification products to guarantee sufficient quality of carried out solidification and safe utilization in the field of the building industry.
