The way of coping with stressful situations in students of the Faculty of Health and Social Studies who will provide social work in the future
RUDOLFOVÁ, Marcela
This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of stressful situations, particularly with coping with them and with the responses to them. The aim of the thesis was to map how the students of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, programmes Rehabilitation-psycho-social care of handicapped children, adults and seniors and Social work in public administration respond to a stressful situation and how they cope with it. The text is divided into two parts, a theoretical one and a research one. The theoretical part specifies the terms stress and coping, I deal with the issues of mental strain, its classification, techniques of coping with stressful situations, responses to a stressful situation and further related topics like the impact of stress on the health, mental hygiene, reasonable spending of free time, stress and addictive substances and the burnout syndrome. A qualitative research strategy, the method of questioning and the technique of semi-structured interview was applied to the research. The data was analysed by means of the cluster formation method. The research sample consisted of eighteen students, three students of each year of the above mentioned study programmes. I was trying to find answers to the research questions: How do the social work students respond to a stressful situation? What steps do the future social workers take to cope with a stressful situation? The results show that stomach upset is the most frequent response among the respondents, after that headache, nervousness, fatigue or sweating follow. A chat with a close person is the most frequently used step to coping with a stressful situation. The stressful situations mentioned by the students are linked to their study, not to their future work for the time being, but I suppose that they will apply the "well proven" coping methods in the future as well and they will be able to cope with the stress related to the work of a social worker.
The process of parents coping with birth of a child with severe disability
KORNFELDOVÁ, Vendula
A child begins to create first relationships within its family, especially if it is a nuclear family. These relationships tend to deepen over time. The child forms relationships towards its parents or siblings. Even sibling relationships are extremely important in shaping the child's personality and its further development. If the child is born with a severe disability, it poses a great burden and responsibility to the parents. It causes a lot of worries because the family needs to deal with the birth of such a severely disabled child and try to accept it in the family. This thesis is divided into two parts theoretical and practical. The first chapter of the theoretical part focuses on a family, functions of a family and on families that take care of disabled children. The second chapter describes individual types of severe disabilities. The third chapter deals with the ways a family reacts when a severely disabled child is born. This chapter therefore discusses individual stages of coping. The practical part was carried out using a qualitative research method. The research took place in the Příbram District. Information and data was obtained by a semi-structured interview with the children's parents. Since it is not necessary to have a lot of respondents when conducting a qualitative research, I believe that even a small number of respondents I worked with during my research is sufficient and appropriately complements my thesis. The main aim of the thesis was to determine in what way the parents coped when a severely disabled child was born. For the purposes of the interview, I formulated individual questions that were vital for the main research question and objective of the thesis. The research results confirm that not every parent can entirely cope with the fact that he or she has a severely disabled child. This is shown by the results of the individual interviews and also by the conducted research. Among other things, the research also proved that most parents have not been or still are not sufficiently informed about the reason why their child was born disabled. This thesis could be beneficial for parents whose child was born severely disabled. Such parents would be able to learn about families that suffer the same (or even worse) fate. The thesis could help them to share their feelings and find strength as well as hope for the future.
Psychohygiene of Social Worker
KACZOR, Michal
This diploma thesis deals with the topic of the social worker's mental hygiene in connection with dealing with the psychological stress arisen from their profession in the present day. Thesis contains the detailed depiction of the present day state of the social work profession in the context of the postmodern era. Due to professional sources the work analyses and explains personality particularity of social workers which are important for discharging this profession including the theme of the psychological stress of social workers, and the ways of coping with it are included as well. The main mental hygiene resources are fundamental and "superstructural" (the core of the social work) which are necessary for coping with the psychological stress. The thesis demonstrates the importance of cooperation of the three mainstays that are responsible for promoting and formation of the required position for the mental hygiene in social work - meant for employers, educators, and social workers as well. All these mainstays participate in enhancing the quality of social work. The lack of high-quality and appropriate mental hygiene in this profession thwarts the realization of first-rate social work. However, as this thesis outlines, it depends mainly on the social worker whether he or she can use the potential of the mental hygiene resources effectively or not.
Zatížení žáků při vzdělávání na střední škole
Číková, Elen
The theoretical part defines the terms load, school stress, and also outlines issues related to school stress, ie. its causes and factors, management, consequences and prevention. The practical part presents the results of an exploratory survey using questionnaires. Pupils at the chosen school were examined how often they face stressful situations, and to what degree they are uncomfortable for them. This concerns stressful interpersonal situations in the relationship pupil-teacher, pupil-classmate and pupil-parents, which can be a cause of school stress. Based on the results obtained from the questionnaires, recommendations for pedagogical practice are worked out.
Coping strategies in context of the attachment in the adolescence
CHADT, Jan
The thesis generally defines theoretical background of coping strategies, specifically it focuses on adolescence. It presents findings from attachment theory that are chracteristic for this period. It also focuses on the attachment as a relevant predictor of specific coping strategies. The theses also provides an overview of the research in the field of attachment and coping. The research was conducted with 152 adolescents to whom were administred methods RQ, IPPA and CASQ. Results showed that attachment styles measured with RQ and IPPA do not have relation to using certain coping strategies and styles within the sample. Differences in using certain coping strategies were proved between gender.
The influence of stress on the duality of life and the work efficiency of workers in the helping professions
KOVÁŘÍKOVÁ, Lenka
This bachelor thesis deals with the Impact of stress on the quality of life and work performance of staff in helping professions. Currently, the challenge is the omnipresence of stress factors in day-to-day life and the impact of stress on quality of life and our health. The bachelor thesis you are holding in your hands is an attempt of a compact view of stress and its impact on quality of life. The paper is devoted to a harmful stress that can suppress potential, negatively affect work performance and health status, as well as positive stress, which can positively affect the workload and develop creativity and motivation. The theoretical part of the thesis is focused on working with specialised literature on the basis of which describes the characteristics of stress, effects on health and mental balance in both work and personal life. In addition, I pay attention to individual causes of stress, reactions of the organism, their solutions and the effect on the human body and spirit. Finally, the thesis is devoted to stressors and typical stressful situations that can occur in an environment where the social worker or a worker in social services takes care of clients with special needs. Aim of the thesis focuses on mapping the stress load of staff in selected professional groups and its influence on performance and satisfaction in life. The second objective of my thesis is to find which efficient protective mechanisms and methods selected professional groups use to overcome stress and to maintain a standard quality of life. Before the actual research initiation, two basic research questions were defined: 1) Stress experienced by staff in helping professions has no impact on quality of life. 2) Stress experienced by staff in helping professions has no impact on work performance. The research part was processed in the form of quantitative research through questionnaire survey using two standardised questionnaires with closed questions, supplemented by age, sex and work position of the respondents. The group of respondents was compiled from various age and gender groups, who are social workers or social service workers with professional focus on disabled persons and work with clients requiring special approach to organisations operating in the territory of České Budějovice. A medium-sized observation sample (53 and 72 respondents) was processed in the research investigation. The objective of this thesis was achieved and both initially introduced hypotheses: "Stress experienced by staff in helping professions has no impact on quality of life" and the hypotheses "Stress experienced by staff in helping professions has no impact on work" were confirmed and at the same time can be defined (on the basis of the research) a hypothesis that the majority of surveyed respondents in the helping professions is exposed to multiple sources of stress, nevertheless symptoms of stress are not present at high levels, although methods for coping with stress are not fully adequate. Furthermore, it may be (with regard to quality of life of the chosen group of respondents) also defined a hypothesis that men and women maintain a standard quality of life despite the stress load in the profession. In conclusion, a view could be taken that even though workers in social services and social workers in the helping professions are exposed to stress they are able to work with stress and have mastered mechanisms to help fight against stress and handle the burden which is caused by stress. Despite knowledge of the mechanisms in the fight against stress, it is necessary that the these workers shall continue educating themselves in future and learn to resist stress and be resilient against its negative effects as each respondent has some stress management reserves.

Duží, Barbora ; Vikhrov, Dmytro ; Stojanov, Robert ; Jakubínský, Jiří
Th is paper investigates household adaptation strategies in a region aff ected by repeated fl oods, focused on the period from 1997 to 2012. Th e main research question pay attention to the overall state of household adaptation measures and whether we can discover some progress in response to repeated fl ooding from the various sources of the Bečva river basin. Th e target area is located along the upper and middle parts of the Bečva river basin in the eastern part of the Czech Republic. Th e research was conducted during autumn and winter 2012. In the empirical part, we use a mixed methodology and case study approach. Firstly, we conducted qualitative research through in-depth interviews with relevant stakeholders in the region (N=21), to serve as an initial leadup to the issue. Th en we proceeded with quantitative research by conducting door-to-door questionnaires with household residents (N=304) in risk zones in relation to fl ood occurrence, to fi nd out which factors infl uence adaptation strategies. Th e qualitative research revealed that most of the respondents were aware of the limits of regional adaptation measures that have been taken up to now. Quantitative research detected that household adaptation to repeated fl oods has slowly improved. Generally speaking, although regional bodies and households have taken some adaptation measures to fl oods, complex ways of adjusting to climate extremes remain underdeveloped.
