The Flue Pedagogues at AMU in Prague

The thesis deals with famous Czech flutists who have been pedagogically active at the Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (hereafter referred to as “HAMU”) and the flutists who are still pedagogically active today. The work is divided into two larger sections which include two bigger topics. The first one describes the concept of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (hereafter referred to as “AMU” or “Academy”), especially its establishment and historical development. The second chapter titled The Flute Pedagogues at AMU in Prague is a principal one of this thesis. There are the names of pedagogues with their curriculum vitae and by the current teachers their connection to HAMU as former students and current educators. This chapter also points out important students who have received engagement in major positions of leading Czech or foreign orchestras or have started their career as solo players.
Flute Chamber Music and Concertante pieces by Jiří Teml

This dissertation deals with flute works by the Czech composer Jiří Teml. It takes into account the complete list including the information about their premieres and recordings. The opening chapter offers an insight into the composer‘s biography connected with his complete works‘ overview. The crucial section of the text is dedicated to the extramusical inspiration of Jiří Teml and its impact on the interpretative approach to his music. Jiří Teml likes the non-musical fields of art and he often reflects them in his own creative process. The Titles of a great number of his compositions (Commedia dell’arte, Pantomime, Hommage à Michelangelo, Kafka…) find their origin from the domain of fine arts, theatre or literature. The composer himself admits that the extramusical content is crucial for him and his art. The author of this text asks whether and how this phenomenon can influence the interpretation of Teml‘s music. This dissertation is methodologically based on the personal interviews of the author with the composer Jiří Teml and on her personal artistic experience.
Flute in the works of westbohemian contemporary composers

Jarmil Burghauser - A Composer (Selected Chamber Works for Wind Instruments)

Jarmil Burghauser is mostly known as the editor of the complete critical edition of Antonín Dvořák's work. In addition to that he issued editions of Smetana, Fibich or Janáček. He also instrumented many pieces of these composers. Even though the sources refer to his fruitful activities in the field of composing, Burghauser as a composer is not very known. The aim of this thesis is to introduce Jarmil Burghauser as a composer of chamber music for brass instruments through the analysis of selected compositions. The objective is also to put Burghauser in the context of Czech musical work in the 20th century.
Prague spring as a flute competition

In the thesis there are general information about the Prague Spring, the International Music Competition focusing on flute years, their compositions, members of jury, Czech and Slovak competitors and winners. The thesis also deals with information about the International Music Festival or historical and political situation in Czechoslovakia. The first capture involves an issue of the Prague Spring conception as a social and political cause, as an international music festival and international music competition. Each of these categories is particularly specified. The second - main - chapter contains detailed information about the International Music Competition focusing on flute. This part specifies all the years of flute competitions, every year is described in detail including selection and number of compositions, a number of competitors, participation of Czech flute players and famous jury members with their biography.
Flutist Vojtěch Lindaur

Diploma thesis „Flutist Vojtěch Lindaur” deals with the personality of Vojtěch Lindaur, one of the most significant West Bohemian musicians living and working in the second half of 20th century. It captures his career, the very beginnings of playing the flute, engagement in the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen and Radio Symphony Orchestra in Pilsen. The Diploma thesis focuses on the flutist´s pedagogical career, activities in the field of chamber music and recording activities. Memories of the musician´s colleagues bring information about the personality of Vojtěch Lindaur. The Diploma thesis also contains list of contemporary pieces interpreted by Vojtěch Lindaur, registry of recordings made in 1960s and 1970s in the Pilsen Radio recording studio and list of opera premiers interpreted by Vojtěch Lindaur in the J. K. Tyl Theatre from 1956 to 1990.
Czech Flutist Jiri Valek

The aim of this thesis is to create a detailed and complete picture of Prof. Jiri Valek, an important Czech flutist of the 20th century. This work focuses on his life, studies and artistic activity. The text presents his achievements in prominent music ensembles such as the Czech Nonetor the Czech Philharmonic. It also shows his pedagogical activity at the Prague Conservatory and more importantly at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. His most successful students are introduced. Part of this work is dedicated to Valek´s musical compositions, competition refereeing and involvement in jazz.
SOLO FOR FLUTE IN THE WORKS OF THE CZECH AND SLOVAK COMPOSERS AFTER 1989

My diploma work "Solo for Flute in the Works of the Czech and Slovak Composers after 1989" is cataloguing works for flute solo, flute with accompanying instrument, flute and electronics, flute and string quartet and flute with orchestra, that were composed after the "velvet" revolution. It includes all available information and to compositions, I was able to perform, or which I consider most important, I provide the interpretation analyses. Annexe of the work contains two interviews with Profesor Vladimír Bokes and Profesor Marek Kopelent, which help to describe the period and creative atmosphere after 1989.
Flute creation of members of the group Les six

The aim of the present thesis is to analyze the works of the composers belonging to the groupe referred to as Les Six (G. Auric, D. Milhaud, L. Durey, A. Honegger, F. Poulenc a G. Tailleferre), with particular reference for the compositions written for flute. In the opening part of the text, we concentrate on delimiting the cultural and artistic context in which the group in question was established, including the musical (collaboration with E. Satie) and literary (J. Cocteau) influences. In the following part, we present a brief individual chapter on each of the members, provide a fundamental information on his/her life and work and propose a more detailed analysis of the compositions for flute.
