Why are they only slowly picking up? : low level of cross border mergers and acquisitions in EU banking sector
Kačena, Vojtěch ; Teplý, Petr (advisor) ; Mejstřík, Michal (referee)
Within last decades, significant measures have been taken to create an integrated market for financial institutions as it is widely acknowledged that this leads to the ultimate goal of the European Union, creating a Single European Market. However a unprecedented wave of mergers and acquisitions (M&As) in the 1990s, had primarily of domestic nature. Hence, this thesis attempts to uncover which factors caused low cross-border activity. The first two parts of this thesis examine the macro-level, concluding that national interests and a fragmented supervisory infrastructure held financial integration back. The third part of the thesis looks at the micro-level, analyzing the ex-ante and ex-post stage of M&As. It concludes that firms seem to favor domestic transactions because synergies are more obvious and easier to extract, the fragmentation of Europe's financial industry offers substantial opportunities in the home markets, and attempting to grow to a size also needs to be accomplished in one (domestic) market. The last part of the thesis studies two cases of recent cross-border M&As, respectively Nordea and HSBC. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

The influence of regimen in general nurses in three-shift operation on their bio-psycho-social needs
ČAMRHELOVÁ, Veronika
The right regimen is one of the factors influencing the ability to handle the requirements of medical profession. It is important for the nurses to realize how important the right diet and keeping to it not only at home but also at work is, especially in the three-shift operation. The survey was quantitative. Anonymous questionnaires for randomly chosen nurses were applied for data collection. The research survey was carried out at asylum and at the Hospital in Havlíčkův Brod. 120 questionnaires were distributed in total, of which 114 (100%) were used for the research survey. Three goals were set for this paper. To find out whether nurses working in three-shift operation eat regularly, whether nurses keep a drinking regime and whether they suffer due to their regimen from indigestion. The set goals were fulfilled in the paper. Three hypotheses were set, each of which related to one goal. The first hypothesis presumed nurses ate regularly. This hypothesis was not confirmed. The second hypothesis presumed nurses maintain drinking regime at work, which was confirmed. The third hypothesis presumed nurses do not suffer from indigestion due to their regimen. The survey has shown nurses believe the medical profession has an impact on their regimen, especially in irregular eating habits, lack of sleep, and besides they consider their work as the cause of stress. On the other hand the nurses maintaining of drinking regime and lack of indigestion problems was a surprising realization. Regular eating habits certainly are an indicator of regimen. However many nurses do not have regular eating habits. The results of the paper shall help to better understand the importance of the right regimen. Nurses should be acquainted with this issue.

Veselý, Jindřich ; Kincl, Tomáš (advisor) ; Novák, Michal (referee)
The work deals with the current burning issue of cultural differences. These issues relate to the expression of culture and one's home country within the mediums of the Internet and online communication. Based on the research of previous studies, this work aims to demonstrate the influence of cultural dimensions in web design and content. In a sample of the largest beer producers in the Czech Republic, Japan and Great Britain supplemented with the largest international brewing companies are analyzed components which characterize cultural differences. The main scope of this study is based on assumptions and theories according to G. Hofstede and E. T. Hall. It thus demonstrates the influence of culture and dimensions -- Collectivism/Individualism, Power Distance, Uncertainty Avoidance, High/Low Context, Masculinity/Femininity, Time Orientation and Colour symbolism. It is recommended that companies pay more attention to the cultural adaption of web communication, which can bring more clarity and attractiveness, and also a higher added value to the customer himself.
