Differences between Oracle and Firebird database
Lelek, Roman ; Šalamon, Tomáš (advisor) ; Hradecká, Petra (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with comparing two different database systems. The first is a relational open source database system Firebird and the second is commercial solution Oracle Express Edition. In the first part, both database systems are described from several perspectives -- general characteristics, functionality and technology, consistency, data backup and recovery management, technical documentation, and performance. The reader is provided with information that he or she can use when deciding between an open source and a commercial solution. In the second part of the thesis is described, how the both databases' performance is tested practically, in a test application created in Java. Firebird has proven to be a better option for single-user applications (such as applications for mobile devices), multi-user applications for Windows and online data collection and analysis. Oracle should be used as a test environment of higher editions or as a master database for a small project (e.g. Wikipedia). Contributions of this thesis is not only in gathering, analyzing and sorting information about two different database systems from various sources and comparing the theoretical level to terms of practical use, but mainly in testing of performance and providing the information how quickly handles specific SQL commands. This kind of information couldn't be found in any published or digital sources.

Modern Java web application frameworks and their comparison
Koščejev, Anton ; Pavlíčková, Jarmila (advisor) ; Šlajchrt, Zbyněk (referee)
The goal of this work is to propose a method of comparison and subsequently compare several of the most used Java web application frameworks in the design pattern context. The work describes fundamental design patterns and the compared frameworks, including the patterns implemented by them. Next there is offered a form of evaluation that splits into several criteria and subcriteria, and several sets of weighs representing different scenarios of decision. Frameworks are evaluated and the evaluation is substantiated. Besides the creation of the set of criteria and analysis of individual frameworks, there was an application developed using each of the frameworks, which allowed for a better evaluation by the author. This evaluation is therefore contributive also due to the actual test of the individual frameworks.
The Comparison of Websites of Selected Worldwide Cties

It evaluates the websites with a set of criteria divided into 4 domains: graphical design, usability, accessibility and information content. In the end the final ratings are determined as weighted averages of criteria and domains.
Empirical comparison of free software suites for knowledge discovery from data
Kasík, Josef ; Berka, Petr (advisor) ; Rauch, Jan (referee)
Both topic and main objective of the diploma thesis is a comparison of free data mining suites. Subjects of comparison are six particular applications developed under university projects as experimental tools for data mining and mediums for educational purposes. Criteria of the comparison are derived from four general aspects that form the base for further analyses. Each system is evaluated as a tool for handling real-time data mining tasks, a tool supporting various phases of the CRISP-DM methodology, a tool capable of practical employment on certain data and as a common software system. These aspects bring 31 particular criteria for comparison, evaluation of whose was determined by thorough analysis of each system. The results of comparison confirmed the anticipated assumption. As the best tool the Weka data mining suite was evaluated. The main advantages of Weka are high number of machine learning algorithms, numerous data preparation tools and speed of processing.
