The Russian Nights of V. F. Odoyevsky Abstract The theme of this bachelor thesis is a book of Russian author and philosopher Vladimir Odoyevsky, who lived in 19th century in Romantic Period. This book was his most important work and he named it The Russian Nights. The symbol of this title and the others motives are part of this work, same as author's view on human being. Odoyevsky has different heroes with the same type of substance and for them he creates different situations, in which is formed the contrast of the brilliant mind of his main characters and ability to perform their talent. Readers can see heroes' way of living in society, when their extraordinary ideas have never realized. The type of hero - insane genius is a typical for Odoyevsky and this element was an inspiration for all great authors in Russian literature in 19th century. Influence of Radishchev 's reference on chosen russian authors of the 19th century

This Bachelor Thesis is based on a well-known fact, specifically, continuity and allusion, which are really important features of Russian classical literature. In other words, the principle, that the authors of different times were making open dialogues between each other. In the thesis the work The Journey from St. Petersburg to Moscow written by Aleksander Nikolayevich Radishchev is analyzed. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the period of time the book originates from, specifies closer the genre, notices the acceptance of it by critics of that times. And finally it also follows up Radishchev's political opinions that can be easily perceived as an irreconcilable dispute between two main personalities associated with the ideas of Enlightenment - reformer of society Radishchev and Catherine II, reigning empress. In practical part, there are found, based on comparative analysis of complex of short stories The Hunting Sketches by Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev and The Pit by Aleksandr Ivanovich Kuprin, some connections and similarities with respect to Radishchev's ideas. No matter, that The Pit was written after the abolition of serfdom; however, the two other books were written before the abolition. Image of a Child in Short Stories of Leonid Andreyev

This bachelor thesis deals with a child character in the short stories of Leonid Andreyev. The aim of the thesis is to find out the importance of a child in works of this author. To achieve this aim, the author of this thesis uses specialized literature and especially her own analysis of the stories. The first and the second part of the thesis concentrate on the general political and cultural overview of that time. It also focuses on the connection between Andreyev's works and artistic movements of his time. The third chapter informs about the development of a childhood theme in the literature and aspects of a childhood appearing in the works of Russian writers of 19th century. Especially in the books of Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy and Chekhov whose output probably influenced Andreyev mainly. The fourth part is devoted to Andreyev's life, writing and the typology of his characters. The fifth part includes an analysis of some stories which are divided into three groups, according to the function which a child fulfills there. At first are described the stories in which children are the main characters while their role in the stories of the other group is just symbolic. Nina Sadur as a playwright

The thesis deals with dramatic work of a contemporary Russian author Nina Sadur (writing since the mid-eighties). Its object is to present main features of her poetics primarily by interpretation of two selected plays - Morokob and Milenkii, ryzhenkii. The first play could be conceived as a metaphysic drama. Its analysis pays attention to two mutually connected levels - those of and of . The second play is based on an older Sadur's subject transposed from the former novel to a radio play. The thesis is concerned with the shifts of meaning caused by this transposition as well as with a critical discussion issued in 2003 and titled Who Is the Cute Little Redhead? exploring various layers of meaning of the novel/radio play. The next part summarizes the available secondary literature, specifies the focus of scholar interest, contains the essential bibliographic data of the author as well as the chronology of her dramas and it lastly mentions the issue of her subsumption under one of the literary movements appearing in Russia since the end of the seventies.

Concept of Childhood in Fyodor Sologub's prose

ТITLE The Concept of Childhood in Fyodor Sologub's prose ABSTRACT: This Master thesis deals with the topic of childhood in prose works of the Russian writer, novelist and teacher Fyodor Sologub. The research presents his biography, traces the development of his personality, as well as his perception of the world and interests. It focuses on the events, which determined the extent and significance of the chosen topic for Sologub. There are also revealed lesser known facts of his childhood that influenced his choice of the topics and its embodiment in his literary works. The writer's biography is complemented by the views of critics and contemporaries who studied his works and shaped public opinion. The main topics of the analysis are: dualistic vision of the world, children's death, faith in God, children's patriotism. The ideal world of children is presented in the novel The Created Legend. The thesis also reveals the popularity of the topic of childhood in other 19th and 20th century writers' oeuvre in comparative analysis with Sologub's work. It also depicts the importance of two literary movements - symbolism and decadence, their representative Sologub was. The questions raised by Sologub remain relevant to the present day.
