Sustainable Public Space and City

The research focuses on the problem of public space in the times of growing ecological demands, global supercapitalism and social networks on the internet. In today’s changing society many original functions of archetypal public space disappeared or moved into other spaces. What can a public space offer to a city of the 21st century? Furthermore, is the public space sustainable? If so when? The research uses a systematic overview on all of the aspects of sustainability of public spaces: economic, ecological, social and time dimension. The paper proposes several model studies and principles of sustainable public spaces where the public space is a valuable part of city’s structure. On the other hand, it also shows examples where the public space is definitely not sustainable. The paper contains research results of respective aspects of sustainability, followed by the conclusion.

In last 50 years it is possible to trace changing role of architecture in urban development strategies. Two main tendencies is possible to identify. Impact of recession on implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility

During the last few years, companies have had an increasing interest on playing a more significant role in society, besides their merely economic function. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has become a relevant concept leading them to do so. However, after the recent economic decline, the business model of most corporations had to be reviewed, including the CSR policy. This dissertation work discusses the impact of recession on CSR. The topic is highly relevant, since the consequences of the economic crisis have still a strong influence on business environment, in the form of a degrading level of trust and a decline of moral commitment to society. In order to evaluate this phenomenon, a research was conducted in three companies that are engaged in long-term CSR. With case study as research method, the impact of recession on CSR has been identified and a trend for future development has been outlined. As one of the main conclusions of this research it was proved, that after the economic decline, rather than dismissed, CSR was re-aimed in a more efficient way. CSR has helped companies to survive better the economic crisis and has taught them, how it can be beneficial not only for business but also for the society.
Waste management system sustainability

The thesis proposes a new approach to assess sustainability of waste management systems. In the first part current mixed municipal waste (MSW) management system of the Czech republic is reviewed and promising MSW treatment techniques are introduced. In the second part a summary of literature on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach to assess sustainability of MSW systems is provided. A new sustainability assessment model is proposed by implementing LCA to a current tool called NERUDA used to optimize waste management costing. It is demonstrated how to connect these two concepts in order to aquire a powerful tool for sustainability assessment.

In the experimental part the aim was to provide total microorganisms counts and total count of micromycetes on samples taken from filters. The work is divided into three parts: theoretical, design and experiment.

Thesis deals with the reporting of sustainability development and its mode of administration of regular reports. The first section contains information ofsustainability development and a summary of the approach of the UN and the EU to sustainability development, which influenced business attitudes to the disclosure of periodic results using standardized reporting of sustainability. The second part analysis the situation of companies in the administration report brewing on sustainability and social responsibility. The aim is to develop recommendations for the creation of reports on sustainable development and social responsibility on the basis of previous analyzes and evaluation of their development.
