Social work in debt issues
KAROCHOVÁ, Michaela
The topic of this thesis is social work in the field of debt issues. Many Czech citizens nowadays have one or more loans that are unable to repay over time and are at risk of confiscation. Prevention and financial literacy are important, as well as social work with people in a debt trap. This thesis deals first with the basic concepts of the topic (debt, definition of the debtor), then debt recovery, social work and social counselling in the area of debt issues, i.e. work with indebted people. In the practical part, we will focus on mapping the views of social workers and other professionals working in the area of indebtedness of the Czech population. A qualitative research was used and was realized by semi-structured interview. Three research questions were set, for which the topics and sub-questions were set for greater clarity. The specific interview was conducted using instructions. The research group consisted of five workers focused on working with people in a debt trap. They were selected from specific institutions in the South Bohemian Region. Research shows that communication partners use an individual approach to their clients and offer specific assistance accordingly. First, they must concretize their problem with them and find out detailed information and all necessary documents. Then they can set goals with clients and start to fulfill them gradually during ongoing consultations. The number of consultations with clients is compiled by the staff according to the need and according to the specific objective. Someone has only one consultation, someone needs 30. Motivation plays a big part of the whole process with the client. Most clients are motivated through their family, friends and loved ones. That's what the workers are trying to do. It is then only the client's desire to improve his/her future. Several factors influence the client's overall situation and its solution to the future. As already mentioned above, the family has both a positive and negative impact on the client. Psychological and financial help from families can be a positive influence. The debtor can be negatively influenced by the fact that he/she grew up in debt all his/her life and he/she finds it normal to indebt at the age of majority. Such indebtedness is also related to society, where the client can be influenced by the surroundings, with which he/she will try to compare and want to "cope" with others. It will cost more money than receive and thus trigger a debt trap. This, of course, can have an impact on employment and future life. The main problem affecting the debtor is probably a lack of awareness in schools where children would need to be preventively taught about debt traps and the consequence of non-payment of obligations in adulthood. Certainly, parents can also prevent this situation, for example, from school years they will give children pocket money and thus teach them how to handle and save money. The bachelor thesis can benefit social workers from organizations working with indebted people. It may also be suitable for schools and the public. To raise awareness that debt is an increasing problem for society.
Consolidated view of the indebtedness of regions in the Czech Republic
MAŇHALOVÁ, Michaela
The aim of the thesis is to assess the state and development of indebtedness of territorial self-governing units in the Czech Republic with regard to the sustainability of public finances. The first part of this work is focused on the definition of basic terms related to this issue. The methodology contains the methods and procedures that will be used in the results section. In the result section was calculated the annual growth rate of debt of regions, the ratio of debt to average revenues or debt per capita The result section is divided into 3 parts. The first part deals with the development of debt of the regions of the Czech Republic, including contributory organizations established by them in the years 2003 - 2017. The debt of all regions of the Czech Republic is assessed together, which gives an overall view of the state and dynamics of the debt. The second part analyzes the debt of individual regions in the Czech Republic. The monitored period is 2010 - 2017. In the last part, debt consolidation occurs. Consolidated debt consists of the debt of individual regions of the Czech Republic and the debt of contributory organizations that establish the regions, as well as the debts of commercial corporations that the regions set up. The creditor protection law within corporate debt financing
Šubrt, Martin ; Černá, Stanislava (advisor) ; Rozehnal, Aleš (referee) ; Elek, Štefan (referee)
The creditor protection law within corporate debt financing Abstract In this paper I have dealt with the protection of a creditor in debt corporate financing, where the debtor is a capital company. In this case, there are relatively specific conflicts of interest between creditors on one hand and shareholders on the other. This is due, in particular, to the characteristics of a capital company where the shareholders are not liable for the liabilities of the company (or they are limited in their liability) and are not responsible for their decisions, while the assets of the company are separated from the assets of the shareholders. Shareholders and creditors thus make competition for company assets. While the shareholders want to realize their investment as quickly as possible, they stand in an imaginary queue as residual creditors of the company at the end. This may lead to their attempt to overtake fixed creditors. This motivation culminates especially in situations where the company is in financial difficulties. Shareholders are aware of the fact that in case of insolvency, no company assets will be distributed to them. In this thesis, I focus on protection of creditors of companies from opportunistic behaviour of shareholders, who may withdraw the company's assets at the expense of its creditors, i.e....
Debt Relief and Growth: A Study of the HIPC Initiative
Kutman, Jan ; Cahlík, Tomáš (advisor) ; Pleticha, Petr (referee)
Debt relief is a form of development aid that began to gain importance in the last decade of the 20th century. In 1996 the World Bank and the IMF jointly launched the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) initiative, a comprehensive and structured program designed to provide debt relief for eligible low-income countries. The purpose of my thesis is to investigate, whether debt relief for developing countries over the period 1996-2015 affected economic growth in the recipient countries with particular attention being paid to the HIPC countries. I also investigate whether the impact of debt relief on growth varies conditional on institutional quality. I find that the low-income countries on average did not benefit from debt relief. However, I find that debt forgiveness has enhanced the growth rates in the countries in the HIPC initiative. Based on the results of my regression analysis I did not find evidence that the effectivity of debt relief in either group of countries depends on institutional quality.
