Inclusion through the eyes of primary school teachers and teacher assistants

This thesis examines the attitudes of teachers and special needs assistants in basic schools towards inclusive education. Specifically, it investigates what opinions do they have about inclusion of special needs student into regular schools, if they feel competent enough in dealing with those students, how they evaluate mutual cooperation, or what kind of behaviour of regular students towards their special needs classmates do they observe. The thesis is comprised of two parts. The theoretical part lays out the concepts of inclusion, special needs student, classroom climate, and discusses the requirements and demands on the teachers and special needs assistants. The practical part presents original research in double design - a quantitative research in the form of a survey, enriched by a qualitative aspect provided by in-depth interviews, which help to enlighten the perception of inclusive education of the actors and their mutual cooperation. The answers of the teachers and special needs assistants are compared since they differ substantially.
Needs of Pedagogues at Primary School in Context of Inclusive Education

This Diploma thesis reflects the situation characterizing the position of teachers in primary schools in the context of using principles of common education. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to describe the perception of support for teachers, who work with pupils who are integrated in the schooling process in primary schools in a chosen region, and also to identify the teachers' educational needs (the qualitative part of Diploma thesis). Moreover, the work tries to detect the educational and developmental needs in the context of teachers' preparations for a work with pupils' groups, in which there are also children who need any kind of support (the quantitative part of Diploma thesis). Firstly, some of the opinions on application of the principles of inclusion in the Czech conditions, analysis of current problems and summarizing the requirements for the work of teachers in inclusive schools are mentioned in the theoretical part of this thesis. Secondly, based on the possibilities given by the objective conditions, a research was realized in mixed research design with an emphasis on its qualitative part. Eventually, the final outcome is supposed to be a formulating of recommendations for further education and professional support for teachers.
The education of pupils with Down sydrome in the main educational flow

This bachelor thesis is focusing on inclusive education of pupils with Down syndrome in the main current of primary schools. Inclusive education is a topic often discussed in society and yet not understood by some people. Therefore, I decided to get and evaluate data of inclusive education for pupils with special educational needs. The bachelor thesis is divided into four chapters. First three chapters are theoretical and the last one is practical. The first chapter defines specifics and options of educating students with Down syndrome in a regular primary schools. The second chapter describes inclusive education and legislation of Czech school system. This chapter also describes support measures, which includes, for example, a teaching assistants and an individual educational plans. The third chapter defines and describes distance education at primary schools. This chapter was created in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, which suddenly closed all schools in the Czech Republic, so it was necessary to move from a full-time form of education to a distance form. The fourth chapter is practical and is focusing on the inclusive education of two selected girls with Down syndrome. The main purpose of the research was to find out how is the education of students with Down syndrome done in the main currrent of education in the regular primary schools. The investigation was made by using a qualitative research method with the interview technique, also there was used the method of observation. Here were chosen semi-structured interviews with teachers, assistant of students with Down syndrome and their legal representatives.
Visually impaired pupil in the mainstream kindergarten

This thesis deals with the issue of inclusive education of preschool children with severe visual impairment in a regular kindergarten. The main aim of the thesis was to map the attitude of the parents of a visually impaired pupil as well as the attitude of school teachers, classmates and their parents who have experience with the process of joint education. The results captured through interviews and observations were processed in the form of a case study which is crucial for this qualitative research. The results of the research show that the inclusive education of a pupil with severe visual impairment in a regular kindergarten can be considered a failure. The reasons for this failure can be considered the lack of teachers' preparation , poor communication between parents and school or less than professional behavior of the assistant.
Attitudes of second grade pupils towards their classmates with disability

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to find out the attitudes of second grade pupils towards their classmates with disabilities. The thesis is divided into two parts: a theoretical and a practical. The theoretical part is based on the current literature and deals with a person with a disability, the definition of disability and the personality of these individuals. The theoretical part further defines a pupil with special educational needs, his/her educational possibilities and inclusive education. The last chapter is focused on the subject of attitudes, their changes and attitude of society towards persons with disabilities. The end of this chapter and the whole theoretical part deals with prosocial behavior and morality in adolescence. The practical part is based on quantitative research and its aim is to find out the attitudes of second grade pupils towards their classmates with disabilities.
Teacher's change of the approach to education in relation to inclusion

This bachelor's thesis deals with the topic of inclusion and the didactic specifics of education in teaching, this being connected with the ordinance No. 27/2016 on the education of pupils with specific educational needs and talented pupils. The author focuses specifically on the teacher that is conceived as an important part of the inclusive teaching. This thesis tries to compare the inclusive model of education, particularly focused on the teacher, with the traditional model of education. The theoretical part introduces inclusion as such and compares teaching with and without inclusive tendencies. This comparison is focused towards the complex perception of the pedagogue in the education process. The practical part tracks the changes or tendencies of the teachers in education. Due to the need for deeper analysis of the problematics, the author uses qualitative design with data collected from interviews. For the research purposes it uses multi-case study with 4 participants.
The specifics of spending leisure time in children with Asperger syndrome

Department of Education. Thesis supervisor P. Samcová. This work deals with the specifics of leisure time of children with Asperger syndrome. The theoretical part describes autism, the triad of problem areas and autism spectrum disorders, which include Asperger syndrome based on symptoms. Asperger syndrome itself is described, a diagnosis that is important for determining this diagnosis and certain problems that are typical of Asperger syndrome. The theoretical part also defines the concept of leisure time, play, school club, inclusive education and assistant teacher. The practical part contains findings from individual interviews with respondents who have a child with Asperger syndrome in younger school age, identified groups and subsequent summary of the whole research.
Teachers' opinions about inclusive education

This diploma thesis deals with inclusive education. It is the issue of inclusive education that is still a much-discussed topic at present, both among the general public and among educators. The main goal of this work is to find out what are the attitudes of teachers working in primary schools to joint education - how much they feel prepared and educated and what their experience is. The work is divided into theoretical and practical part. At the theoretical level, the basic concepts related to inclusion, legislation or a pupil with special educational needs are described. The practical part consists of a research carried out through mixed research design (questionnaire survey and in-depth interviews). Based on the obtained data, all results are then analyzed and commented.
Social pedagogue in the role of teacher assistant in primary education

In last few years there have been certain legislative changes concerning the care of children with special educational needs. These are children with the need of support in all types of schools. This means there are more often children with specific learning disorders in schools who need the support of the pedagogical assistant to be successfully integrated. The Special pedagogy graduate can work as a pedagogical assistant. The goal of this thesis is to find out and describe how does the cooperation between an assistant and a pupil (pupils), teachers and parents in on ordinary primary school work and also how is this cooperation evaluated by its participants. Another goal of this thesis is to find out how do assistants evaluate their preparedness for this work in some areas. The theoretical part deals with the problematics of the educational and social inclusion and describes the wanted changes in the approach of schools and teachers. This part also explains the role of the pedagogical assistant, describes the work content and defines needed competences. The practical part introduces the qualitative research focused on pedagogical assistants in specific schools.
