Statistical techniques for Loss Given Default Modeling
Betíková, Veronika ; Vaníček, Karel (advisor) ; Zichová, Jitka (referee)
Title: Statistical techniques for Loss Given Default Modeling Author: Veronika Betíková Department: Department of Probability and Mathematical Statistics Supervisor: Mgr. Karel Vaníček Supervisor's e-mail address: karelvanicek@seznam.cz Abstract: The aim of this thesis is to introduce Loss given default as one of the parameters of credit risk. The thesis discusses the basic characters and meth- ods of LGD calculation. It also points out the common use of linear regression models and generalized linear models which are used in practice to estimate LGD parameter. Individual mathematical models and statistical methods for estima- tions of the parameters of such models are concisely described and consequently applied on simulated data. Keywords: LGD, beta regression, OLS, estimation 1

Joseph Soloveitchik's philosophy of religion
Lyčka, Milan ; Sobotka, Milan (advisor) ; Karásek, Jindřich (referee) ; Sláma, Petr (referee)
Joseph Soloveitchik (1903 - 1993), rabbi and philosopher, one of the most important representatives of modern Jewish Orthodoxy, has made an attempt to translate traditional Jewish religious concepts in the language of modern science and philosophy. As a philosopher, he was versed in the Neo-Kantian philosophy of the Marburg School, as a rabbi he was under the influence of the so-called Analytical School, founded in Eastern Europe by members of his family. From the philosophical heritage of Neo-Kantianism he adopted the emphasis on the pureness of thought, understood as mathematical and scientific, and from the direct Kant's inheritance he endorsed particularly his a priori concept of pure forms of sensible intuition and cognitive categories. The Analytic School affected him through their emphasis on a non-historical analysis of religious concepts, leading to their deeper knowledge, and in the same time establishing a new relation to the Transcendent. In this way, Soloveitchik has rehabilitated religion as a noesis and aimed at its philosophical reflection. The central notion of his religious philosophy is halakhah, traditionally conceived as a set of norms and commandments ruling the life of a practising Jew. In Soloveitchik's view the halakhah has become a philosophical concept, a hermeneutic key to the...

Multiple sequence alignment
Ferenc, Matej ; Pangrác, Ondřej (advisor) ; Bálek, Martin (referee)
Title: Multiple Sequence Alignment Author: Matej Ferenc Department: Department of Applied Mathematics Supervisor: RNDr. Ondřej Pangrác, Ph.D. Supervisor's e-mail address: pangrac@kam.mff.cuni.cz Abstract: In this work we study multiple sequence alignment problem, for aligning protein or DNA sequences. There is a lot of ways how to solve this problem. Some of them are optimized for speed, while others are optimized for quality of the produced alignment. We implement two methods - progressive and iterative, which are based on creating a phylogeny tree and align sequences according to it. We will also provide a few distance methods. Our aim is to compare the methods and their parameters for creating best alignments and to find out, when to use which methods. Keywords: bioinformatics, alignment, sequences

Translation of Comics. Translation of German Comics into Czech
Schwarzová, Zuzana ; Svoboda, Tomáš (advisor) ; Špirk, Jaroslav (referee)
The thesis contributes to the theory of translation of comics. In the first part, it outlines the development of both German and Czech comics and defines individual aspects of comics translation, taking into account not only language but also images and typography. Regarding language, the thesis looks specifically at balloons, captions, and other characteristics playing an important role in translation, such as interjections, inscriptions etc. The thesis also addresses the interdependence of language and visual messages in comics, which is the typical source of comic effects. Apart from the requirements on comics translations set within translation studies, the thesis also presents the attitudes of publishers and their editorial practices. Based on questionnaires distributed among publishers, we can conclude that they adopt a comprehensive attitude to translation of comics, not only taking into consideration balloons and captions, but also creating favourable conditions to meet the translation studies requirements. Based on the general findings, the thesis analyzes two translations of German comics into Czech. The analysis of their language aspects employs Katharina Reiß's model, images and typographic aspects are analyzed using Delabastita's model. The analyses show considerable differences in...

Automated GUI Generation for functional data structures
Podloucký, Martin ; Pergl, Robert (advisor) ; Hric, Jan (referee)
This thesis addresses the problem of automated graphical user interface generation for functional programs. First an analysis of current state in the field of automated GUI generation is performed. Based on the analysis the concept of Functionally Structured User Interface (FSUI) is introduced. Meta-data system for code annotation is then specified for the Clojure programming language and a transformation from this system to FSUI data model is implemented. Finally a graphical layer for displaying the actual interface is implemented in Clojure. Benefits of this approach are demonstrated by proof-of-concept case study.

Semi - infinite programming: theory and portfolio efficiency application
Klouda, Lukáš ; Kopa, Miloš (advisor) ; Lachout, Petr (referee)
Title: Semi-infinite programming: theory and portfolio efficiency application Author: Bc. Lukáš Klouda Department: Department of Probability and Mathematical Statistics Supervisor: RNDr. Ing. Miloš Kopa, PhD. Supervisor's e-mail address: kopa@karlin.mff.cuni.cz Abstract: The thesis deals with application of semi-infinite programming to a portfolio efficiency testing. The summary of semi-infinite programming, first and second order optimality conditions and duality in linear semi-infinite programming is presented. The optimization problem for a portfolio efficiency testing with respect to the second order stochastic dominance under assumption of discrete, normal, Students and general elliptical distribution is formulated. Conditional value at risk(CVaR) is used as the risk measure, because of its consistency with the second order stochastic dominance relation. Efficiency of index PX with respect to the second order stochastic dominance is tested. The tests are performed using the program GAMS.

New Methods in Statistical Speech Recognition
Klusáček, David ; Hajič, Jan (advisor) ; Psutka, Josef (referee) ; Černocký, Jan (referee)
Title: New Methods in Statistical Speech Recognition Author: David Klusáček Department: Institute of Formal and Applied Linguistics (ÚFAL), Faculty of Mathematics and Physics in Prague, Malostranské náměstí 25, 118 00 Praha 1. Advisor: Prof. RNDr. Jan Hajič, Dr., Institute of Formal and Applied Linguistics. Abstract: This works aims to identify limits of contemporary speech rec- ognizers and tries to come up with methods that could push back the fron- tiers. After describing the state of the art, the weakest link of the chain has been identified in the acoustic front-end, especially when working in harsh acoustic conditions. NUFIBA front-end, the proposed solution, includes re- verb compensation and speaker/background segmentation as well as contin- uous SNR monitoring which, thru cooperation with acoustic model, hinders from avalanche spreading of recognition errors. Owing to the lack of time, only a phoneme recognizer was finally implemented, although large blocks of originally intended word-based continuous speech recognizer were implemented and tested (such as the MMI-class based language model).
