Position of Minorities in the U.S. Labor Market
Svoboda, Jan ; Pertold-Gebicka, Barbara (advisor) ; Avdulaj, Krenar (referee)
This thesis deals with the phenomenon of racial discrimination in the U.S. labor market. The first part outlines the existing theories of discrimination and history of immigrants' residence in the U.S. It also brings some statistics from the U.S. labor market and finally reviews some literature in the field of labor market discrimination. The second part of the thesis is devoted to the empirical analysis of wage discrimination in the U.S. using the American Community Survey 1980 and 2007. With the help of Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition we break down the log-wage differential between whites and other racial groups into two parts. The first, explained, part is the part of the differential that can be explained by differences in average race characteristics. The other, unexplained, part is the part of the differential that remained unexplained. That part is then assigned as a result of discrimination. We find that while in 1980 Asians earned on average 5% more than whites, by 2007 this difference reached 15%. 15% - 21% of this difference remained unexplained. The opposite situation is observed in the case of Hispanics and Blacks. While in 1980 both, Hispanics and Afro-Americans, had on average 10% lower wage than whites, by 2007 this difference reached as much as 30%. In case of Afro-Americans, 50% -...
ON THE PASNIK
Siegelová, Kateřina ; Vlková, Veronika (referee) ; Klímová, Barbora (advisor)
The topic of my thesis On the Pasník a time and decomposition. I have produced small houses from natural materials and placed them in a forest. The subject of my work is to record the flow of time. The outcome of my work is time based large-formal drawing. The buildings on the drawing gradually collapse and disappear. Thus I have created the time drawing.
Species composition of invertebrates during cadavers colonizatin in shallow graves
Pikal, Lukáš ; Červený, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Hana, Hana (referee)
In this work, I deal with forensic entomology and representation of invertebrates species which colonise carcasses found in shallow graves, covered with a layer of soil. There was a field experiment conducted from mid-May 2015 to mid-September 2015 for the purpose of this topic. It took place in the Bohemian Forest, known in Czech as Šumava, in the Kundratice village, where shallow graves were dug in the garden of a family house. There were 12 graves in total. There was a carcass of domestic fowl (Gallus gallus f. domestica, Linné, 1758), each weighing about 2 kg, inserted into each grave and then buried. The distance between the graves was 1.5 m. All the individuals of domestic fowl were killed in the same way under the same conditions. The individual graves were divided into four sectors, each sector containing graves with depths of 10 cm, 30 cm, and 50 cm. Subsequently, one sector was dug up every month, and all developmental stages of insects were picked up from each depth, and the samples were then sorted according to whether they were found in the soil or on the carcase itself. The identified samples were then determined by a specialist. Finally, the findings were compared with literary sources and either refuted or confirmed. The experiment has verified the knowledge that members of the Calliphoridae family do not participate on the decomposing process of buried carcasses.
Plastové odpady jejich úprava, zhodnocení a odstranění se zaměřením na biologicky rozložitelné plasty
Walachová, Klára
This bacalor thesis is focused on development and dealing with plastic waste respective biodegradable plastics. The first part is focused on the general charakterization of the plastics and their history. The thesis also briefly describes polymers division and list of their uses. There are also described plastics waste issue. The second part of the bacalor thesis deals with the charakterization of the biodegradable plastics. There are described the basic terms and distribution of biodegradable plastics. There are also described their utilization and possible ways of dealing with the biodegradable plastics. In the last part is connected attempt that described the degradation of plastics. This plastics have been identified as compostable, degradable or 100% biodegradable. The bacalor thesis is closed by evaluation about possible effect on the environment.
Static image enhancement using wavelet transform
Candrák, Matúš ; Rajmic, Pavel (referee) ; Smékal, Zdeněk (advisor)
In tomography and ultrasound signal processing, there is the noise build-up into the processing. Bachelor's thesis deals with static images highlighting, with denoising using wavelet transformation and edge detection with basic operators. This work describes some types of wavelts used for denoising of image and basic operators for edge detection in the image. The last part deals with a particular application for image processing, which was created in MATLAB.
Decomposition of Volatile Organic Compounds in Gliding Arc Discharge
Grossmannová, Hana ; Kapička, Vratislav (referee) ; Pekárek,, Stanislav (referee) ; Krčma, František (advisor)
The aim of this thesis was to elaborate the issue of the decomposition of volatile organic compounds in the Gliding Arc plasma discharge at atmospheric pressure. Technologies based on nonthermal plasma could offer a good alternative to conventional techniques for the decomposition of volatile organic compounds, such as thermal and catalytic oxidation. Gliding Arc discharge (GidArc) is a widely exploited nonthermal plasma source used for many industrial applications, such as air-pollution control. The energy efficiency, reaction selectivity or production of specific species may be achieved in this kind of plasma, and thus for various chemical processes it can be much more effective then in conventional techniques. Presented experiments are linked to the previous results published in diploma thesis, which gave us the basics for construction of new reactor and optical emission spectroscopy measurements have been done to characterize the plasma. Toluene (aromatic, unsaturated), cyclohexane (aromatic, saturated) and hexane (aliphatic, saturated) were used as the model compounds for these experiments in the concentration range from hundreds to thousands ppm. Results focused on the electrical parameters of the reactor were carried out, with the aim to operate the system at a lower energy cost. In order to get the time-resolved diagnostics of the moving plasma channel, the evolution of the plasma channel was recorded continuously by using a high-speed video camera. In next part of the work, some results concerning generation of low molecular products like nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide, hydrogen and carbon monoxide on the discharge conditions are presented. In combustion process, undesirable mixture of toxic highmolecular by-products can be formed. Samples were therefore analysed in gas chromatograph linked to mass spectrometer, to characterize the chemical transformation pathway of VOC in plasma.
Image noise reduction method based on discrete wavelet transform
Holiš, Michal ; Přinosil, Jiří (referee) ; Malý, Jan (advisor)
This bachelor's thesis contains theoretical treatise on noises, which occur in digital visual data, their classification and possibilities of their removal. The next part is applied to theory of wavelets, wavelet transforms and their usage in working with one-dimensional, but mostly with two-dimensional signals. It is than mainly applied on visual data with a view to removing of failures contained in these data. The last part of the thesis is about implementation of demonstrational programme. This programme is created for removing of noise from the chosen visual data on the basis of user's chosen variables.
Financial Analysis of JIPOCAR TRANSPORT, Ltd
Chromá, Lucie ; Pevná, Jana (advisor) ; Hartmanová, Jana (referee)
The target of this diploma thesis is an evaluation of company's financial health. The diploma thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part presents theoretical findings, which are apllied in the financial analysis. These findings are applied in the practical part to the transport and forwarding company JIPOCAR TRANSPORT, s.r.o. The result of the financial analysis is compared with average values in the industry.
