Katovská, Jitka ; Ebelová, Ivana (referee) ; Hojda, Zdeněk (advisor)
The institution of St. Paul 's Hospital in Prague belongs to social-charitable institutions that had taken care of the needed poor, ill, old, widows and orphans in the early modern period. The history of St. Paul 's Hospital had taken place in the area behind Poříčská brána and after the thirty year 's war in so called Temple. Certain amount of information, explaining not only economic and administrative functioning of St. Paul 's Hospital but also the history of day-to-day activities of the inhabitants, has been preserved in the hospital books in the Archive of the capital city Prague. The diploma thesis analyses material background of the hospital, the system of hospital donations, the administrative organisation with an accessible list of hospital clerks, and the quantity of care that the hospital was offering. In the list of the history of St. Paul 's Hospital there is also enumeration of duties and rules that had to be followed in order to stay in the hospital as well as references to the conditions and reasons for the admission of hospital applicants. The comparison with St. Catherine 's Hospital in Regensburg, which is unique for its parity functioning and both catholic and evangelic patients care, brings interesting evidence for the fact that Czech and German institutions do not differ in the basic...

CHARLES UNIVERSITY IN PRAGUE Faculty of Science Department of Demography and Geodemography CURRENT STATUS AND FUTURE PERSPECTIVES OF THE NUMBER AND STRUCTURE OF PRIMARY HEALTH CARE PHYSICIANS IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC Synopsis of Ph.D. Thesis Luděk Šídlo 2010 Thesis Director: RNDr. Tomáš Kučera, CSc. 3 Introduction, definition of the problem studied, data resources Demographic aging of physicians in the Czech Republic has recently become a frequently discussed issue, especially in connection with the reduction of availability of needed medical care. Most discussed aspects are primary health care, while this debate is rather on the pages of daily newspapers than among the interested institutions. This illustrates the fact that currently there are no studies or conceptual material for the issues of demographic aging of doctors examined. And this was also the reason which became one of the impulses that led to the elaboration of this theme. Primary health care has had throughout the whole health system a very crucial position, despite the fact that its definition goes back to the end of the seventies of the last century (WHO conference in Alma-Ata in 1978). Neverthelles, the primary health care has still been waiting for an embodiment into the Czech legislation. It is the care that should be the primary point of...

Injuries of children at home
POCHYLÁ, Petra
The theoretical part of this thesis is oriented at an actual issue of accidents involving children in home environment, their prevention and a correct provision of first aid by a non-professional at these types of selected accidents. The practical part of this thesis was led by a qualitative form of research, a method of a semicontrolled interview. The interview given was led by chosen caring people, who gave first aid to children with a home environment injury. The whole process of the interview was recorded at a digital record book and then rewritten to a text form, with the approval of the respondents. The respondents were chosen on the basis of a survey. The final information from the interviews were analyzed and subsequently summarized into results. Six respondents were registered into the research part. Six basic questions were given to the respondents. The questions were chosen to find out information about an injured child, an injury character, a procedure of caring person while giving first aid, or other professional care and permanent effects. While preparing the research part, I was expecting that most of the respondents would manage to give first aid, however, according to the results, half of the parents didn't know how to deal with giving first aid. Non- professional first aid, provided at the right time and done correctly, is one of the basic and essential steps to reverse the injured person back into the normal quality of life. This is why, all people should be able to give first aid without special equipment and tools. The aim of my thesis was to monitor the process of the caring person while giving first aid for selected accidents involving children in home environment. I gave myself one fundamental research question: What was the process of the caring person while giving first aid for accidents involving children in home environment? At the final evaluation and comparison of my results, I achieved the results, in most examined facts, which are presented in other different studies dealing with similar issues- children's injuries and giving first aid for accidents involving children.
