The aim of the thesis is to evaluate post-conflict and regional development in Rwanda in period 1995--2005. The theoretical part defines principal concepts of reconciliation and peacebuilding. Successful reconciliation was a key step towards economical, social and environmental development in Rwanda. The practical part comprises two sections -- analysis of food security and creating a composite indicator. Analysis of food security is evaluated in four dimensions - availability, access, stability and utilization of food. Creating a composite indicator includes economic, social and environmental pillars. Five sub-indicators were selected for each pillar. Final part contains recommendations for countries that are implementing the process of post-conflict development.
Analysis of composite indicators of sustainable development and their interpretation for the Democratic Republic of Congo

Diploma thesis deals with construction of a composite indicator and its interpretation for the Democratic Republic of Congo. The theoretical part is focused on sustainable development and steps how to construct a composite indicator. In the practical part, there is subsequently constructed a composite indicator and performed its analysis. Analysis is based on each pillar of sustainable development. The closing part of the thesis is devoted to proposals and suggestions on how to improve the current situation in DRC.
Comparison of Post-conflict Reconstruction in Rwanda and Cambodia

This bachelor thesis is dedicated to comparison of post-conflict reconstruction in two countries that went through a genocide, Rwanda and Cambodia. The goal of the thesis is to evaluate if the reconstruction was successful or not concerning the present situation in these countries. The purpose is also to decide whether it was performed correctly and whether it managed to prevent appearance of other conflicts and violations. The subject of post-conflict reconstruction is very extensive. Hence, my thesis is concerned mostly with achieving justice and reconciliation among people. So called Gacaca courts were the main instrument for stabilization of the society after the conflict. Therefore the thesis is very concerned with them. Parallel of Gacaca courts in Rwanda was ECCC tribunal in Cambodia. The last part of the thesis contains comparison of both conflicts and evaluation of reconstructions.
Genocide in Rwanda and the Role of the UN

The bachelor's thesis deals with the role of the UN during the genocide in Rwanda in 1994. The main goal is to identify failures that the UN has committed and in some cases to propose possible scenarios that the organization should have followed in order to prevent the massacre or to minimize its´ consequences. The theoretical part introduces the theory of the UN peacekeeping missions and the functioning of the UN system, focusing on the Security Council and the UN Secretariat. The practical part deals with the actual genocide in Rwanda and analyzes the response of the UN to the warnings and to the subsequent massacres. The last chapter summarizes all the key events where the UN failed during the genocide.

The Rwandan genocide was prepared and executed on the basis of the ethnic affiliation. Ethnic division and increasing animosity had multiple causes and the colonizer's influence was often described as one of them. The bachelor thesis The role of Belgium in Rwanda from colonization to the Rwandan genocide studies how Belgium helped the intensification of hatred between Hutus and Tutsis and whether it contributed indirectly to the 1994 genocide.

The thesis focuses mainly on the activity of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), national courts and the activities of the Gacaca courts. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the impact of the respective institutions on restoration of justice and achieving peace and national reconciliation in Rwanda based on their in-depth analysis.

The thesis deals with conflict between Tutsis and Hutus, which took place in the 90s in Rwanda, its historical causes, the process and the role of the international community in its solution. The thesis is focused particularly on the role of the UN in resolving the conflict -- on the analysis of the effect of the UN peacekeeping mission, the conditions of its deployment, the definition of its mandate and other factors that led to its failure. The work represents a contribution to the debate about the role of the UN in today's world, the analysis of the conditions and preconditions of its agility, the efficiency and potential changes in its structure and functioning.

This bachelor thesis' theoretical part is focused on definition of the peacekeeping operations and gives an idea of problems with creation of unified definition and division of operations into categories. Later on the thesis compares UNAMIR and ONUMOZ operations on the basis of five assumptions of success. The aim of the thesis is to find out if the peacekeeping operations influence the evolution of the situation and successful solution of the problematic situation in the country.
Reconciliation as part of postconflict reconstruction in Rwanda

This bachelor thesis focuses on reconciliation as part of postconflict reconstruction in Rwanda. The aim is to find out whether projects and programs of Rwandan government and NGOs helped reconciliation of the Rwandan society. The first theoretical chapter summarizes theoretical basis and concepts regarding the term postconflict reconstruction with a significant focus on reconciliation. The second chapter is devoted to actors of reconciliation, who were most affected during the genocide in 1994 and who have passed of greatest change in the course of post-genocide period. The third chapter analyzes the projects of Rwandan government (Ingando Solidarity Camps and TIG work camps) and NGOs (The Cows for Peace and Girinka) on the basis of instruments of reconciliation. The final part of thesis evaluates the success of post-conflict reconstruction especially in sphere of reconciliation and also compares the above projects.
