Vulnerbility Of Gpon Network Elements
Chlapek, Jan
Passive optical network (PON) is a promising access network technology used in modern telecommunications. Due to their passive nature PONs are potentially vulnerable against a number of security threats. This paper is focused on testing the resilience of a GPON (Gigabit PON) network against a DoS (Denial of Service) attack, conducted with a CW (Continuous Wave) laser plugged into the optical splitter. The goal was to cause signal interference on the feeder fiber to prevent communication between the OLT (Optical Line Termination) and ONUs (Optical Network Unit).
Simulation of high-speed optical data transmissions
Chaloupka, Tomáš ; Münster, Petr (referee) ; Horváth, Tomáš (advisor)
The aim of this master thesis is comparation of simulation tools OptSim™ and PHOTOSS which are used to create simulations of data traffi cs in access and metropolitan networks. The outcome of this thesis is three laboratory exercises and their theoretical bases which should explain the way of working in diff erent simulation environments to students.

Partial renovation of metropolitan optical network infrastructure
Cichra, Petr ; Lávička Otakar, Mgr., MU, https://is.muni.cz/osoba?prezdivka=xlavick1 (referee) ; Novotný, Vít (advisor)
This bachelor thesis is focused on rebuilding of active metallic-optical network in locality Brno – Zábrdovice, in the streets Šámalova, Kuldova a Krokova on purely passive optical network based on xPON technology with possibility of further expansion of capacity. The partial goal is a thorough analysis of the current state and the main proposal is the solution of modernization of the existing network infrastructure into xPON and then implement this proposal. The theoretical part of the bachelor thesis describes the problems associated with these technologies with regard to current and future trends in the construction of optical networks. Furthermore, the economic intensity of the investment in this reconstruction will be evaluated.
Design of new laboratory exercises with gigabit passive optical network
Chlápek, Jan ; Škorpil, Vladislav (referee) ; Horváth, Tomáš (advisor)
The diploma thesis is focused on design of new laboratory exercises on the topic of gigabit passive optical networks. The theoretical analysis is devoted to acquaintance with basic problematics of PON and analysis of individual PON standards. Special attention, besides GPON, XG-PON and EPON standards, is devoted to security issues in PON. The goal of practical section of the thesis is the design of four laboratory exercises. Two exercises are focused on configuring GPON and XG-PON networks in a console environment with the help of exemplary console commands. The goal of the third exercise is to hook up and configure an EPON network using web configuration interface. The fourth exercise is designed for a realization of DoS attack against a fully functioning laboratory GPON network. The objective is to jam the upstream communication bandwidth with laser transmission causing a desynchronization between active network elements.
Security Risks in Passive Optical Networks
Šimoník, Jan ; Jeřábek, Jan (referee) ; Horváth, Tomáš (advisor)
This diploma thesis deals with the historical development of passive optical networks, according to the standards that was defined by International Telecommunication Union (APON, BPON, GPON, XG-PON and NG-PON). Further, the thesis describes the security of passive optical networks, but also a security threats which the deployment and use of passive optical technology carry. In the introductory chapters of this thesis the passive optical networks are described. The following is a description of the standards of passive optical networks in terms of their historical development. The next part is dedicated to the security of passive optical networks and possible security threats. In conclusion a description of the practical part of this thesis is given -- rack assembly, which will serve for future testing. The basic configuration of the optical line terminations that are fitted in the rack is also described. The last part of this diploma thesis is dedicated to the testing of selected security risks, which was described in the theoretical part of this thesis.
Influence of Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation over Optical Network Unit
Sikora, Pavel ; Oujezský, Václav (referee) ; Horváth, Tomáš (advisor)
This thesis deals with DBA algorithms used in XG-PON networks. It describes reference appearance of the DBA algorithm, as well as, three specific DBA algorithms discussed in professional articles. Particularly speaking about GIANT, HYRA and modified Max-Min Fair DBA. The thesis provides description of frames utilized by DBA algorithms in XG-PON networks, specifically XGEM frame and XGTC frames. The thesis also presents a simulation tester of DBA algorithms tested on a virtual XG-PON network. Finally, it contains the results of testing these DBA algorithms with a description.
High speed (100G) access networks
Chlápek, Jan ; Münster, Petr (referee) ; Horváth, Tomáš (advisor)
This paper was focused on describing the development, parameters and needs for High-bandwidth access networks. The introductory part of the theoretical analysis is devoted to a basic description of optical access networks. Next the attention is aimed at comparing PON standards of organizations ITU-T and IEEE. Main segment of the theoretical analysis is focused on describing the next generation PON development where there were analyzed standards NG-PON2 and 100G EPON that are currently in development. The practical task was focused on application of gained information about PON by creating a simulation of XG-PON access network. Goal of this simulation was an analysis of downstream transmission in terms of network quality and BER.
Triple Play simulations for next generation networks
Sikora, Pavel ; Polák, Josef (referee) ; Horváth, Tomáš (advisor)
This thesis deals with XG-PON networks. It describes the parameters of the physical layer, its divisions and the branching possibilities. It also describes the transfer layer and its sublayers, discloses the activation process of ONU units when ONU unit connected to ODN. Finally, the thesis describes DBA algorithm including a detailed representation of a DBA algorithm reference model and a representation of the two DBA algorithms implemented in practice. Simulations of Triple Play services in the network with software NS-3 are also included. Simulations using simple DBA algorithm and GIANT algorithm. Thesis contains too modification of GIANT DBA decreasing data trasfer delay.
Testing of optical networks
Šimoník, Jan ; Horváth, Tomáš (referee) ; Filka, Miloslav (advisor)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe testing of optical networks physical layer by norms and recommendations (CSN, ITU and RFC). The first chapter provides a description of the individual optical fibers, their division and a brief description of each type. In the next part of this thesis, the methods and procedures for testing the various parameters of optical networks are described, according to specific standards and recommendations. The issue of testing quality of services is also described, primarily focused on triple play services, which are operated at optical access networks. The following is a description of the issue of access and transport networks, a draft of methodology for testing the physical layer of these networks is given. In conclusion, there is a chapter describing the practical measurements made on a passive optical network. In the annexes of this thesis the limit parameters of optical fibers used for the measurements and draft of the content for measuring protocol are listed.
