Pollution entering the Moravian Karst via surface streams
Vaculíková, Klára ; Tůma, RNDr Antonín (referee) ; Malá, Jitka (advisor)
The Diploma Thesis deals with the water pollution entering the Protected Landscape Area Moravian Karst via surface streams. In order to quantify the extent of the pollution surface streams entering the Moravian Karst were selected. A survey of a region of interest was done. Actual volume flow rate, measurements of physicochemical parameters, water samplings, laboratory analyses of samples were done monthly from April to November 2019. Conductivity, pH, temperature, oxidation-reduction potential, concentration of dissolved oxygen, and oxygen saturation were measured in situ. Afterwards, COD, BOD, phosphate, total phosphorus, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and Kjeldahl nitrogen were determined in the laboratory. Organic nitrogen and total nitrogen were also calculated. The results were evaluated with a respect of Government Decree No. 401/2015 Coll. Material flows were calculated for selected parameters and used as other criterion that evaluate the water pollution of monitoring surface streams. Areas out of the PLA needing an enhanced protection of watercourses were proposed based on quantified pollution. Cooperation with two primary schools in the Moravian Karst supported the research. Pupils and their teachers were trained, and they measured phosphate in surface streams from April to November 2019. The website related to phosphorus in surface water were created and results of phosphate measurement were uploaded there.

Application of electrical resistivity tomography technique to detect underground cavities
Kučera, Radek ; Hartvich, Filip (advisor) ; Široký, Jakub (referee)
The electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) method is widely used to detect underground cavities because their air, water or clay infill often has a significant geoelectrical contrast to the surrounding rock. The review part of this study summarizes properties of the method and presents examples of investigation of underground cavities in various geological settings, mainly the crevice-type and karst caves and old mining objects. The case study from the Amatérská cave in the Moravian Karst proved the ability of the technique to detect air and clay filled underground cavities above the depth of 40 m. The resolution of the method is lower at greater depths but some indication of deeply situated Pustožlebská Zazděná and Amatérská caves was captured. Keywords: ERT, underground cavities, caves, Moravian Karst
Assessment of Ochozsky Brook Status
Vaculíková, Klára ; Tůma, RNDr Antonín (referee) ; Malá, Jitka (advisor)
Bachelor's thesis deals with an evaluation of Ochozský stream in the village Březina in Moravian Karst. There was done a survey of a ground and the stream surroundings. There was also gained information from the Municipal office on technical adjustment of the stream, sewer network, waste water treatment plants and polluters of Ochozský stream. Two measurements of physicochemical parameters and sampling were carried out at six sampling points in autumn 2017 and in spring 2018. Flow rate was measured at three sampling points. Conductivity, pH, temperature, oxidation-reduction potential, concentration of dissolved oxygen and saturation with oxygen were measured in situ. COD, BOD, total phosphorus, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and Kjeldahl nitrogen were determined in water samples in the laboratory. Organic nitrogen and total nitrogen were calculated. The results were evaluated with a respect of Government Decree No. 401/2015 Coll. There was also provided a hydromorphology assessment of Ochozský stream using methodology Stream Visual Assessment. A land use of the offshore stream strip was mapped.
Sanatorium with Speleotherapy Ostrov u Macochy
Okleštěk, Michal ; Štěpán, Marek (referee) ; Odvárka, Antonín (advisor)
The topic of my master’s thesis was to create an architectural study of Hospital with Speleotheraphy in Ostrov u Macochy. Sanatorium provides expert care to children suffering diseases of the respiratory tract, particular allergic and infections. Operation of the building is intended primary for children od preschool age. The building was divided into two main section. It ensures a conflict-free, natural traffic - two interconnected buildings. These buildings were carefully planted in the landscape of the Moravian Karst and contribute to teh development of Ostrov u Macochy.
Flow pattern and hydraulic response propagation in selected caves of Moravian Karst
Kůrková, Iva ; Bruthans, Jiří (advisor) ; Knížek, Martin (referee)
This thesis is divided into two parts. The first one is focused on tracer tests carried out in several karst conduits in the Moravian Karst. Several conduits were tracer repeatedly during different discharges. Flow velocity, flow cross section area, longitudinal dispersivity and Peclet number were plotted against discharge for each studied conduit. Based on this comparison of parameters I deduced characteristics of karst conduits for example presence of phreatic channel or vadose channel or multiple channels. I also focused on comparison of my results with publications dealing with the same subject elsewhere in the world. Second part of the thesis is based on measurements of water stage, dischargeand temperature by pressure transducers at inlet and outlet points of karst conduit logged in 10 minutes interval. The goal was to find a relation between the velocity of hydraulic response propagation and discharge. Unfortunately, results show no correlation because there are probably more parameters influencing the velocity such as ratio of vadose/phreatic segments which may change rapidly during flood events.
Flow and mean residence time in karst unsaturated zone (Ochoz Cave, Moravian Karst)
Vysoká, Helena ; Bruthans, Jiří (advisor) ; Buzek, František (referee) ; Tesař, Miroslav (referee)
Flow and mean residence time in epikarst and unsaturated zone was studied above the Ochoz cave in the Moravian Karst. I studied various flow components with different residence time in unsaturated zone and the influence of soil and epikarst on seepage composition and residence time by means of several methods (longterm monitoring of conductivity, flowrate of seepage and soil water, use of environmental tracers - 18 O, 3 H, CFC and SF6, flow into the soil and detailed sampling during intesive rain events). Seepage sites Kašna in the Rudické propadání cave system and Mapa Republiky in Býčí skála were reference localities in unsaturated zone. For comparison I modeled residence time in saturated zone: at Kaprálka outlet close to the Ochoz cave, at Stará řeka (Rudické propadání) and Konstantní přítok (Amatérská cave). Mean residence time in unsaturated zone above the Ochoz cave reaches 7 - 20 years, while it is only few months in the soil (1 - 8 months, depending on the depth). At Kašna seepage site, the reasidence time is similar to the Ochoz cave - about 18 - 20 years, at Mapa republiky seepage site, it reaches 150s year due to unusual geological settings. Mean residence time in order of 10 - 20 years corresponds to storativity values (0.6 % in average) calculated from parallel water level recession...
Study of vadose zone in northern part of Moravian Karst
Gregorová, Anita ; Bruthans, Jiří (advisor) ; Kamas, Jiří (referee)
This study is focused on the flow through the uppermost part of the unsaturated zone in karstified areas. The information about distribution of transit times and chemical reactions taking place in the unsaturated zone is based on isotopic and chemical composition of cave dripwaters, precipitations and water caught by gravitation lysimeters. The water balance was calculated using measurements of intensity of dripwaters and amounts of water caught by lysimeters and rain gauges. The velocity of a hydraulic shockwave between monitored objects was also estimated according to the delay between significant precipitation event and dripwater intensity increase. The field study took place in the Němcova 1 cave in the northern part of Moravian Karst, near the village Suchdol. It was carried out during the hydrological year 2010/2011. The cave is about 13 m under the surface. The information about composition of overlaying rock above the cave was obtained using geoelectrical and electromagnetic measurements. Studied geological environment is built of 0.5 - 1.5 m of soil, 0.5 - 3.5 m of epikarst and a layer of massive limestone as thick as 10 m. About 70 to 90 % of dripwaters have residence time over 4 years. The distribution of transit time of younger water can be described using the exponencial model (well...
