Documentary Photography: The Ďáblice Housing Estate

The primary focus of this bachelor thesis is centred around the architecturally significant Ďáblice housing estate. The theoretical part delves into its history and architecture, incorporating an interview with architect Ondřej Tuček, the grandson of the chief designer of the estate. Its photographical section presents the basic concepts and history of three pertinent photographic genres: documentary, street and urban photography. Furthermore, the thesis includes an annexed photographic publication dedicated to contemporary life in the Ďáblice housing estate, titled Krásné sídliště Ďáblice.
BUILDING A PLACE ATTACHMENT AMONG HOUSING ESTATE RESIDENTS: A CASE STUDY OF THE ĎÁBLICE AND SPOŘILOV HOUSING ESTATES

The thesis deals with the topic of place attachment, i.e. the emotional bond of a person to a place, in this case to the place of residence, with a focus on residents of socialist housing estates. The first part of the thesis is devoted to the theoretical background. It discusses, on the one hand, the available literature on the development of place attachment, the ways of measuring it or the psychological nature of this attachment itself. Also, the phenomenon of modernist housing estates and their contemporary image is described in this part. In the second, empirical part, the aim is to find out how place attachment is formed among the residents of the housing estates, what further influences this relationship, and how this process of evolving differs in the two estates. The research is qualitative in nature and the main method of data collection is semi-structured interviews. The case study was carried out in two housing estates in Prague, which differ both in size and in how well they are known by the general public - the Ďáblice housing estate and the Spořilov housing estate. Design of a contemporary urban district in the context of a historic city - urban study

The assignment of the diploma thesis was the design of a contemporary urban district in the context of a historical city in the details of an urban study. The area of interest is Obránců míru housing estate, which is located close to the historical core of Třebíč and at the same time stood at the beginning of the Nové Dvory district development, which was significantly influenced by the construction of the Dukovany NPP. The main goal of this thesis is to demonstrate the ability of the housing estate to adapt to today's trends to a sustainable, self-sufficient, climate and energy-resilient urban structure with the application of blue-green infrastructure and to point out the importance of intensive recycling development. The concept of the re-vision consists of the creation of a high-quality environment oriented in greenery enhancing the concept of permeability, shaping and strengthening the community coexistence of residents. The re-vision is a gradual process based on phasing, which will ensure long-term stable development with the subsequent possibility of gradual renewal / replacement of the construction of panel houses with a new structure.
Residential satisfaction of households in tenement houses in localities of Prague - the role of civic amenities

Residential satisfaction belongs to important elements of human's satisfaction with life. It is created by the unique set of different components to which the accessibility and quality of civic amenities in a neighbourhood may also be included. Nevertheless, the importance of this factor used to be underestimated and the real connexion between residential satisfaction and the presence of civic amenities has not come out so far (Swindell, Kelly 2005). Therefore, the diploma thesis focuses on the qualitative- analytical research of residential satisfaction in two differently served Prague's localities with the aim to deepen the current knowledge of this issue. The results show that the presence of civic amenities in the neighbourhood has a significant effect in creating residential satisfaction which is comparable to the quality of housing and neighbourhood features. However, this relationship is partly influenced by the assigned importance of services' presence that especially varies according to the locality type (housing estate or suburban) and the position of household in a life cycle. Vision for Kotovo

The service building Kotovo, built between 1970s and 1980s of the previous century, is situated to the south from the city center of Vsetin, in the city part Rokytnice. The building stands at the beginning of the housing estate tight-close to tower blocks. Two floored object in a U form consists of three standalone blocks, that is A, B and C part. Nowadays, Kotovo is used for a variety of services and markets, such as grocery shops, dentist office, post office or children’s library. The city of Vsetin is fully aware of the state of Kotovo and plans to reconstruct the building. First part of the diploma thesis analyses specifics of this space, deals with connecting the object to its surroundings, defines its possible functioning utilization, and above all it finds meaningful vision for the future reconstructions. The goal of the diploma thesis is to tie in to the areas draft potential, make and architectural concept for the whole area and then design one of the buildings. The thesis should work as a vision and the foundation document for the future reconstruction.
Residential satisfaction of seniors in selected housing estates in Prague

The aim of the thesis is to evaluate and compare the residential satisfaction of seniors aged 65 plus in three housing estates in Prague - Invalidovna, Háje and Nové Butovice, among other aspects differentiated by the date of development. The research undertaken at the turn of May and June 2011 using the method of a semi-structured interview endeavours to uncover seniors' satisfaction in several areas - basic stores and services, leisure time activities, social relationships, transport and mobility, public spaces and green areas, housing, security. In addition, the residential stability of seniors and overall residential satisfaction are assessed.

Revitalization of the Padělky housing estate in Ždánice

The main point of this diploma thesis is revitalization of housing estate called Padělky in Ždánice. The housing estate is located in the northwestern part of the village. There are nine roads in zone 30. Two of them were already repaired in the first stage. The housing estate is without a transport solution and without the possibility of legal parking. Now the roads are devastated, there are potholes, holes and cracks. Six roads were reconstructed, two were extended. This brought the possibility of detours and improved transport. The new design legalizes the parking space. There are new built parking spaces, too. Conditions for the inhabitants of the housing estate are improving. There are new trees, bushes, rosary, furniture and waste bins. The public lighting will be replaced.
An Analysis of Urban Amenities in Housing Estate Inner Courtyards in Bratislava

This bachelor thesis focuses on an analysis of urban amenities in inner courtyards of housing estates with a special focus on playgrounds. It includes a description of the history of housing estates in Bratislava and especially the Trávniky estate, which was further analysed. This estate is analysed from both a general perspective and urban composition. The theoretical part discusses the area of public amenities in general. The practical part includes a comprehensive analysis of selected courtyards with a focus on playgrounds and their user experience, amenities and security. Collected data were analysed and a simplified SWOT analysis created. For the most pressing issues, changes and possible improvements were proposed.
