Liquidity management of banks and other financial institutions
Hanzálek, Michal ; Brůna, Karel (advisor) ; Obešlo, František (referee)
Diploma thesis focuses on liquidity risk management of commercial banks in the Czech banking market in 2002-2015. This main goal is achieved through a comprehensive analysis within a framework that uses several different methods. A theoretical framework for bank liquidity management is drawn up for a theoretical evaluation, summary of the current literature and a summary of the regulatory framework including the newly introduced Basel III requirements and indicators is put together. The research part is focused on assessing the development and current state of liquidity of Czech banks by analyzing of liquidity ratios and regression analysis of panel data. The level of liquidity and the size of the liquid pillow is judged to be sufficient and stable from the results of the individual analyses. The net position of Czech banks on the interbank market on an international scale also reflects a good level of liquidity. The major determinants of Czech bank liquidity in the period under review were mainly capital adequacy, bank size, loan portfolio quality, growth rate of GDP and interest rates.

The goal of the thesis is to determine the applicability of lean and operational management tools in hypermarkets. The method of the analyses is the critical case study using the deductive approach. The theoretical part explains the main factors forming hypermarket and the main lean tools which can be applied for this topic. The practical part includes the different analyses of the observed hypermarket and the possible ways to improve the current situation there, using the lean management. The output of the thesis is the project for improvement, which can be used for the real-life application.
Floorball - geographical aspects and diffusion
Zalubil, Jakub ; Tomeš, Jiří (advisor) ; Boleček, Vít (referee)
The aim of this study is to outline spreading of floorball in the world in comparison with spreading of other sports and to find determinants that explain changes in floorball's representation. The popularity of floorball was compared with the popularity of other selected sports within different European countries. These countries were selected according to their consideration of being floorball superpowers: the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Sweden and Finland. It was confirmed that floorball prospers where ice hockey is well-developed. A hypothesis was tested on these countries whether floorball is a university sport. The statistical analysis confirmed a correlation between the number of universities and number of floorball clubs. The survey results also demonstrated that professional floorball's success is directly related to quality of university sports background. Key words: floorball, spatial diffusion, determinants, geography, pattern change
Determinants of poverty in the Czech Republic
Chválová, Martina ; Rychtaříková, Jitka (advisor) ; Šustová, Šárka (referee)
DETERMINANTS OF POVERTY IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC Abstract In this thesis we present the determinants and the current state of poverty in the Czech Republic in 2014. We clearly set out the definition of poverty and delimit various concepts of poverty, that is the old and the new concept of poverty, the subjective versus the objective one, the absolute versus the relative concept, as well as the direct and the indirect plus the prescriptive and the consensual poverty. We also introduce various ways to measure poverty. A substantial part of the theoretical section focuses on the introduced methods and definitions of particular indicators (the at risk of poverty rate, the relative median at risk of poverty gap, the Gini coefficient, the income quintile share ratio, the material deprivation rate). We have used the method of logistic regression and the processed data which were gained from the project Životní podmínky 2014 (The Living Conditions 2014) and EU-SILC 2014. At the same time, still in the theoretical part of the thesis, we also dealt with the causes of poverty and the attitudes towards the poor as sociology, psychology and ethics view them. The analysis has proved that, based on equivalised household income, persons living in households in villages with 2 000-4 999 inhabitants are susceptible to poverty...
Determinants of International Tourists Inflows: The case of China
Zang, Yu ; Dědek, Oldřich (advisor) ; Benáček, Vladimír (referee)
This study is aim to evaluate the effect of five factors on the amount of tourists arrivals to China in those countries who have most visitors. To apply empirical estimation, a balanced panel data based gravity equation is established, with 22 countries and 15 years period (1998 - 2002). Our main estimates conclude that GDP per capita has a positive impact on the amount of tourists, as well as population, whereas exchange rate and distance will deter the amounts of tourists. Unfortunately PPP conversion factor also has a positive impact but not as expected. The findings of this study will fill the gap of relative literatures for China and provide another evidence of gravity model.
What Are the Main Determinants of Banks' Ratings Across CEE Countries?
Wolf, Kryštof ; Seidler, Jakub (advisor) ; Žigraiová, Diana (referee)
This thesis uses data of more than 180 banks from CEE region to identify the main determinants of long term credit ratings assigned to these banks in period between 2010 - 2012. This is done by employing two frequently used classification methods - Multiple Discriminant Analysis and Ordered Logit Model. The main contribution lies in including explanatory variables from various areas which have impact on financial health of examined banks. Apart from standard spheres of banks' performance such as capital adequacy, asset quality or profitability we investigate relevance of macroeconomic and qualitative factors as well. Although our results suggest that all mentioned areas are relevant for credit risk and hence rating assignment process the bank specific variables, both quantitative and qualitative, still play the key role.
The determinants of access to finance: evidence for transition economies
Cazachevici, Alina ; Horváth, Roman (advisor) ; Benáček, Vladimír (referee)
Charles University in Prague Faculty of Social Sciences Institute of Economic Studies MASTER THESIS The determinants of access to finance. Evidence for transition economies Author: Alina Cazachevici Supervisor: Roman Horvath, Ph.D. Academic Year: 2012/2013 Abstract The thesis provides an empirical analysis of impact of country-level and firm-level determinants on access to finance in transition economies. Generalized Ordered Logit model is applied on survey data for transition countries, combined with financial market indicators. The results show that higher concentration in banking sector, as well as higher financial deepening have a positive impact on access to finance, while volatile macroeconomic environment, higher implication of foreign-owned and state- owned banks seems to be perceived as increasing obstacles in accessing external financing. Combining indexes for liberalization in banking sector and liberalization of securities markets proved that before liberalization process firms had better access to finance. One of the possible explanations is that before liberalization state banks were forced by politicians to issue more loans, while after reforms the political pressure was removed, imposing stricter conditions for loan granting. Inclusion of corruption variable yields expectable results that...
Philosophical and Psychological Aspects of Free Will. The Free Will and Responsibility
Stanková, Eva ; Kosek, Jan (advisor) ; Ondřejková, Jana (referee)
The question of free will, determinants of free action and responsibility is one of the most thrilling questions of the mankind. Moreover, the free will problem is closely connected to regulation and hindsight judgement of man behaviour so the law is concerned with the problem as well. However, a legal concept of free will is missing in the Czech law or legal theory. The author is therefore concerned with the fact that there is no satisfactory legal definition of free will even though legal responsibility is impliedly based on free action and free will. The Czech law defines just the freedom of action in negative terms, i.e. as an action of will free from circumstances limiting or precluding legal responsibility. The aim of the thesis is to summarize knowledge of social psychology regarding free will and assess whether the Czech law does impose the right standard of freedom of will in comparison to scientific experiments and findings. Furthermore, there are philosophical theories of free will introduced in the thesis and consequently these theories are questioned and examined for the purpose of defining legal concept of free will. At the end of the psychological part of the thesis one comes to the conclusion that the social determinants such as peer pressure, conformity and obedience to authority...
Cohesion and Coherence in French and Czech Texts
Rusá, Ludmila ; Sládková, Miroslava (advisor) ; Šotolová, Jovanka (referee)
in English This thesis deals with the means that French and Czech use to express the text coherence and cohesion. It pays special attention to functional sentence perspective which is expressed in different ways in these two languages. It focuses on the category of French determinants and its important role in the expression of functional sentence perspective. The empirical part of the thesis explores the possibilities the translator has to express lexically the presence of various determinants that appear in original texts, and it tries to prove the theory that a higher occurrence of determinants in French affects Czech translations. This hypothesis will be proven by comparing the frequency of prounous that occur in Czech translations and Czech original texts.
