Lars von Trier in Czech Theatres: stage adaptations and their cinematographic prototypes

This thesis concentrates on the phenomenon of theatre adaptation of films in context of czech contemporary theatre. It's goal is - on examples of theatre transcriptions of Lars von Trier's films - to capture and describe difficult process of adaptation, which is wageing during the transformation of films and film texts into their theatre versions. During the process of analyses, we will try to trace not only the concrete transfigurations, but to name possible approaches and techniques revelating during the act of adaptation.

Dramatizations of Larger Epic Pieces Designed for a Child Actor

This thesis analyses the dramatizations of larger epic units, which have appeared on the Czech national (or regional) shows of children's theatre since 1989. After characterizing the role of dramatic text created for the theatre played by children, the work attempts to establish the evaluation criteria for the dramatization of the investigated area. With regard to the artistic and educational objectives, the work compares the composition, language and thematic basis of selected texts. At the centre of attention are those means of adaptation which acquire particular significance especially in connection with a child actor; ways of creating adult characters, the depiction of the inner world of children's heroes etc. The main task of this text analysis is to answer the question about how far the authors were able to get within the narrow borders brought on by focusing on child actors up to fifteen years of age.

Movement in mathematics

In my thesis I concern with the use of motoric activities in math classes. The chapters that offer a range of motoric activities were processed on the base of a questionnaire and an experiment. Some of the activities are currently being implemented in math classes by teachers of first, second and third grades at primary schools, others are part of textbooks designed for this age group. In addition to that, I offer five more possible activities, which have been recorded and interpreted within six experiments. The goal of the thesis is to demonstrate that physical movement cannot be separated from the life of six to nine years old children, and offer some motoric activities, which can potentially be contributive for development of mathematical skills and abilities.

Dramatization of Olbracht's novel the Bandit Nikolai Shuhai

The theme of the thesis named Dramatization of Olbracht's Nikola Šuhaj loupežník is focused on the secondary life of Olbracht's prose on Czech stages, in film and in other media as well. The interpretation begins with the recapitulation of circumstances of the creation and the initial reception of the novel and from its analysis related to the genre, language, style and composition, and proceeds with analyses of the individual dramatizations, created primarily by Peter Ulrich (LP Nikola Šuhaj loupežník, 1974; Nikola Šuhaj loupežník, Ateliér 1975; Koločava, Městské divadlo Brno 2011) or by Milan Uhde (Balada pro banditu, Divadlo na provázku 1975 and 2005; film 1978). Special attention is paid to the fact that the key dramatizations of Olbracht's Nikola Šuhaj loupežník worked with music and songs in their theatre adaptations and they used them as a means of expression that intensified the lyrical passages and allowed to transfer the poetics of the given literary model into a very impressive contemporary theatre form. Analysis and Comparison of Dramatizations of The Wind in the Willows

This diploma thesis deals with an analysis and comparison of dramatizations of The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame, a book which ranks among the British children's classics. The paper examines to what extent the dramatizations correspond to the book, whether and why they deviate from the original text, and what consequences these changes have. The thesis focuses on four dramatizations – a play by Alan Alexander Milne called Toad of Toad Hall, Alfa Theatre production of The Wind in the Willows, a Walt Disney short animated film The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, and Terry Jones´s adaptation of The Wind in the Willows to a feature film.
In the thesis, firstly the book and then the dramatizations are analyzed in terms of the theme and genre, characters, setting, composition and language use. Subsequently, the dramatizations are examined and compared with regards to the transformation processes – selection, condensation, substitution, amplification, and changes in composition and language. In the final chapter, I summarize my findings and draw the conclusion.

Guy de Maupassant: "Bel-Ami" - costumes

This diploma thesis is about costumes from Maupassant' s novel "Milacek", following up its dramatisation from Zdenek Kaloc.
In introduction, I explain the reasons why I have decided for this topic nowadays. Theoretical part describes the content of the novel and the circumstances of the origin of the novel. Then life of G. De Maupassant is briefly explained and his novel is compared to his own life experience. After that follows the listing of selected drama and film adaptations. After that, the novel Bell ami is compared to other literature work from different authors.
Analytical part describes mainly the work with the text of the novel, its dramatization and explains the inspiration for the costumes. Then there are reflections on possible principles of staging and relation to present social issues and problems. This part of the thesis ends with the description of the solution of individual costumes.
In the conclusion, there is a summary of the goals of the thesis and the explanation of the adaptiation of the dramatization.

Poetics of Jan Werich´s fairy tales in children performance

Thesis introductory part deals with the issue of author's fairy tale in general, the other parts focus exactly on Werich's fairy tales. The thesis works with the three fairy tales chosen from the Werich's book Fimfárum and analyses them in comparison with the original counterparts who inspired writer's authorship. This analyse concludes the principles and poetics of Werich's authorship. The last part of the thesis is dedicated to the analysis of particular fairy tales dramatization which was performed by the children theatre ensembles. This part of thesis shows the transformation of poetics in Werich's fairy tales to the theatre performance, its success and the way how it was done.

H. Ch. Andersen's Fairy tales Dramatized for the Czech Theatre Groups

The essay is devoted to study of the Hans Christian Andersen?s fairy tales that were dramatized for presentation by Czech children theatre groups. It`s first part deals with the analysis of Andersen's fairy tale literary output, with regard to his narrative style and his contribution to the genre of fairy tale. Second part of the work analyzes the Swineherd story in terms of qualities, which it offers to children?s theater, and compares it with other stories dramatized for the same purpose. The final part discusses six dramatizations of Swineherd, which were staged with children groups, especially in terms of how to convert a literary narrator in theatrical form, and the influence of the nature of such conversion on the structure of the production and its characters. In respect to each of the scripts, the essay studies the extent to which their authors managed to preserve the genre and style of the original and what influence any shifts had on the transmission of the Swineherd `s message.

Methods and techniques of active teaching in Czech language on the middle school

The aim of this diploma thesis is to find out the influence of methods and techniques of active teaching on the level of essay-writing in the basic school. The theoretical part describes chosen methods and techniques of active teaching within the context of the educational process. An experiment was carried out in the practical part and it verified the influence of these methods on the development of essay-writing potential of the pupils. The popularity of the chosen methods and techniques of active teaching was being researched by a questionnaire survey. The methods of active teaching were discovered to facilitate the success rate of the essay-writing and a statistically significant increase in the number of sentences and syntactic pairs was found in the experimental group.
