Toxicity of thiosalicylanilides with invertebrate organisms
Čapková, Zuzana ; Vytlačilová, Jitka (advisor) ; Macáková, Kateřina (referee)
Thiosalicylanilides are important biologically active substances. They have been used for they anthelmintic and antifungal activity for a long time. In recent years they were tested as substances potentially effective in the therapy of tuberculosis. This Diploma-Study presents the toxicity of newly synthesized thiosalicylanilides. As these substances are hardly soluble or practically insoluble in water, dimethylsulfoxide was succesful as a co-solvent in the experiments. The Artemia franciscana biotest was used as a screening method. These experiments were evaluated after a 24hours period and the EC50 values were calculated. This method is rapid, inexpensive and convenient for pre-screening toxicity tests. The toxicity order for the tested compounds was: 4' - bromo - 3,5 - dichlorothiosalicylanilide (13e) > 3,4',5 - trichlorothiosalicylanilide (13b) > 3', 4'- dichlorothiosalicylanilide (8c) > thiosalicylanilide (8a) > 5 - chlorothiosalicylanilide (12a) > 4'- methylthiosalicylanilide (8i).

Determination of neopterin and its derivatives by HPLC with fluorescence detection.
Říhová, Lenka ; Chocholoušová Havlíková, Lucie (referee) ; Nováková, Lucie (advisor)
TITLE: Determination of neopterin and its derivates by HPLC with fluorescence detection SUMMARY: Neopterin, a pteridine derivative, is produced in human organism by monocytes or by B - lymphocytes stimulated with interferon γ or interleukine - 2. These active substances (interferon γ, interleukine - 2) are connected with immune system activation. Neopterin measurement in body fluids can therefore serve for monitoring of activation of various components of immune system induced by cytokines. Immune activation occurs for example during many infectious diseases, autoimmune diseases and malignant diseases. Recently the connection between neopterin and 7,8 - dihydroneopterin and intracellular oxidative stress and cell apoptosis was demonstrated in several scientific studies. Values of pteridines probably correlate with certain neurological disesases. Totally reduced form of biopterin serves as cofactor of some enzymes in human organism. In clinical practice the concentration of neopterin, eventually other related substances is expressed as the ratio neopterin / creatinine. This diploma thesis is dealing with the development of an analytical method for the determination of biologically active substances biopterin, 7,8 - dihydroneopterin, 5,6,7,8 - tetrahydroneopterin, neopterin and creatinine by high performance...

Drug abuse problem in Cyprus
Theodosiou, Andreas ; Magrla, Tomáš (referee) ; Šotolová, Eva (advisor)
The following dissertation is concentrated on introducing the reader with a clear view of the contemporary situation of the drug abuse problem in the island of Cyprus. The theoretical part offers a synoptic aspect on the current status and level of the National strategy against addictive substances (cooperation on an international level, reduction of illegal addictive substances offering, programs used for primary, secondary and tertiary prevention in every section of one's social life, therapy and working methods of state institutions). The second part of the dissertation is practical. Through the use of a list of questions, it aims to determine mainly what kind of drugs prevail in Cyprus, determine the approximate age of first drug use and reasons which lead to drug abuse with regard to social relationships and social status. In the epilogue are offered useful suggestions in the section of drug abuse prevention, according to the results of the filled lists of questions.

Pyrazine Carbonyl Compounds - Building Blocks in Dynamic Combinatorial Systems
Coufal, Radek ; Drahoňovský, Dušan (advisor) ; Jindřich, Jindřich (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the synthesis of bifunctional carbonyl derivatives of pyrazine, which are further examined for their potential to form dynamic hemiacetals with monofunctional alcohols. Newly prepared, in the literature not yet described bifunctional trifluormethyl derivatives exhibit considerable ability to form hemiacetals in a dynamic system. The obtained results show that these substances may find application as building blocks of dynamic combinatorial systems.

Study of the influence of additions on the durability of aerated concrete
Halešová, Adéla ; Voves, Jiří (referee) ; Hubáček, Adam (advisor)
The aim of this work is to summarise and consider the possibilities of using admixtures and their influence on the durability of aerated concrete. This bachelor's thesis is based on research findings concerning aerated concrete. Furthermore, it deals with the study of inert and active additions. The experimental part is focused on testing trial samples with the addition of admixtures. It examines what is the rate of the possible chosen physically-mechanical features such as the rate of air density, the durability of surface against the effect of water and chemical defrosting substances and achieving the required strength.
