Business Cycle and Traffic Fatalities
Hátle, Lukáš ; Houdek, Petr (advisor) ; Jaklín, Jiří (referee)
The paper tests the hypothesis regarding the assumed relation between economic cycle and mortality caused by road traffic accidents. The analysis has been done using fixed effect regression method on panel data collected in 20 EU member countries between years 1995-2008. The results (with a limited significance) may show that one percentage point decrease of the unemployment rate results in a one percentage increase in the road traffic mortality rate. The effect is caused by the increased traffic intensity as well as by changes in the drivers' behaviour that accompany the economic growth (e.g. higher consumption of alcoholic beverages). The results hint further that the strength of the relation differs for various age categories. The strongest relation between the economic cycle and the mortality was found for the young generation, 15-29 years of age. In this age group, one percentage point decrease in the unemployment rate means 1.77% increase in the road traffic mortality rate.

Slep laboratory from the perspective of the patient and of nurses
MACHOVÁ, Adéla
Abstrakt The topic of the thesis is called ?The sleep laboratory from the patient´s point of view and the nurse´s role?. A sleep laboratory is a medical facility which is adjusted to sleep disorders diagnosis. The aim of the thesis was to determine the level of patients´ awareness when coming to the sleep laboratory. We want to find out to which extend the examinations are uncomfortable for clients. The last goal of the thesis is aimed at nurses and deals with their overall role as for the clients´ care in the sleep laboratory. The thesis comprises the theoretical and research parts. The theoretical part consists mainly of the expert text, whose aim is to describe sleep, its disorders as well as individual disorder examinations. These notions and definitions are crucial for understanding the existence and significance of the sleep laboratory. The research part focuses mainly on clients of the sleep laboratpory of the Neurophysical laboratory in the lower part of the České Budějovice Hospital, Corp., but also on nurses who carry out the nursing treratment there. The research was performed through the qualitative examination using interviews. 7 clients and 7 nurses were questioned. Casuistry was created from the answered questions for a better review. The research was carried out in the period from February to April 2011. The interviews with clients were held always after the examination so that they were able to assess their stay in the sleep laboratory on the whole. All interviews are anonymous. It can be conlcuded from the research part that a sleep laboratory was an unknown notion for the clients before the suspicion of sleep disorders arose. Mostly they are informed about this facility by a doctor who recommends the visit to the sleep laboratory. According to research outcomes, the majority of clients regard the examination in the sleep laboratory as very uncomfortlable. The nurses´ role is described in individual casuistries. There is an important finding that a full-value care and the right education of the clients in these facilities depends fully on the nurse´s knowledge. However, nurses´ knowldege in this branch is not always sufficient. In this case, the theoretical part of the thesis can serve as an educational material for both nurses and patients, who this topic concerns.
Sleep problems and insomnia of clients in the Nursing home in Trebic called Manž.Curieových, p.o.
KRÁLOVÁ, Iveta
The theoretical part describes sleep as a physiological process and its individual stages, the most frequent sleep disorders and sleeplessness. In addition, this part accentuates the diagnostics and examination of sleep disorders, pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment and the Ten Rules of Sleep Hygiene. Two objectives were set in the practical part. The first objective was to ascertain how the clients of the retirement home run by the subsidised organisation Domov pro seniory Třebíč - Manž. Curieových, p.o. were informed about sleep disorders, in particular about their causes and treatment and the sleep hygiene. The second objective was to ascertain what the sleep environment of the clients looked like. The objectives were attained through qualitative research. The selected questioning method involved the technique of a semi-directed interview with ten clients and ten nurses. The research was conducted from 3 January to 14 January 2011. After the processing and evaluation of case studies it has been ascertained that nine of ten clients are not informed about sleep disorders. Five of ten clients are not informed about the causes of sleep disorders. Seven of ten clients are not informed about the treatment of sleep disorders and ten clients do not know the Ten Rules of Sleep Hygiene. The research has shown that ten clients are satisfied with the sleep environment and the temperature in the sleeping room. Nine of ten clients are satisfied with their bed and sufficient darkness for sleep. Based on the semi-directed interviews it has been ascertained that six of ten nurses are informed about sleep disorders. Ten nurses know the causes and treatment of sleep disorders. Nine of ten nurses know the Ten Rules of Sleep Hygiene. Ten nurses think that the clients have sufficient darkness for sleep and are satisfied with their bed. This bachelor thesis will serve as a feedback for the retirement home, allow extension of both the lay and expert public awareness of the given issue and may be useful for the students of assisting professions.
Motivation sources of mental health support in preadolescents - girls
MACOUNOVÁ, Iva
The bachelor thesis deals with the motivation sources supporting mental health in pre-adolescent girls. The theoretical part of the work includes findings on health as a whole and from several different points of view. An independent chapter is dedicated to the definition of the term mental health and its determiners, focusing mainly on sleep. The major part of the theoritical section of the work deals with the characteristics of pre-adolescent girls and a description of the changes in this stage of development. The research section is concerned with the results and data obtained from the intervention programme, which was created in cooperation with Eliška Šindelirová and subsequently applied to the 6th and 8th forms of primary school. The programme was aimed at mapping the state of sleeping habits among pre-adolescent girls and the subsequent motivation and support of correct sleeping habits. All the results which were possible to obtain within the frame of the entire intervention programme are presented in the research section. It was proved that pre-adolescent girls don{\crq}t follow the sleep regime appropriate to their age, but computer games are not the reason for the lower sleep quotas. Based on the results, we recomend the inclusion of the topics of sleep problems within hours of health education curriculum in primary schools.
Sleep disturbances in old age.
VÁLOVÁ, Hana
The topics of the thesis are sleep disturbances concerning old age. Sleep is the basic human need, accompanying our life from pre-natal period to death. It is a natural and essential part of our life; it is of cardinal importance for the comfort of each human being. It is a necessary condition for keeping and maintaining physical and psychical health. The absence of sleep leads to serious disturbances. The sleep and its need are individual; it develops in the course of life, but gradually the number of sleep disturbances increases. In opposition to traditional opinions that an old person needs less sleep, it was found out that the total need of sleep does not change much. The observations proved that some old people sleep more than in their young age. In the theoretical part, sleep, its significance, the need of sleep, particular phases and factors influencing it are defined. Further, the disturbances of sleep, their causes, division and treatment are described. It deals with the sleep of the elderly and the role of a nurse supporting and making good quality sleep during the nursing process. Three objectives were stated. The first was to find out sleep habits of the elderly hospitalized in the Hospital Písek, Inc., the second mapped the disturbances of sleep in the clients-the elderly in the Hospital Písek, Inc. The third found out whether the hospitalized clients-the elderly have good conditions for the inducing of sleep. Three hypotheses were stated. The first: ``Clients have sleep habits``. The second supposed that: ``The most frequents sleep disturbances in clients-the elderly is the early waking up. The third hypothesis: ``Clients-the elderly have good conditions for the inducing of sleep``. Quantitative research was chosen to reach the objectives of the thesis and proving the hypotheses. The data collection was carried out by the method of a questionnaire on clients-the elderly in in-patient wards in the Hospital Písek, Inc. After the elaboration of the research part and following assessment it was found out that the first hypothesis-the presence of sleep habits, and the third hypothesis-good conditions for the inducing of sleep, were proved, but the second hypothesis-early waking up, was disproved. Although the results of the research are relatively optimistic, it is surely important to devote further attention to the problems of sleep disturbances in the elderly because sleep is not that natural and obvious for many of them. The person who does not sleep has not enough power, energy and is not able to manage routine daily activities or resist some illnesses. Problems appear in the individual with sleep disturbances and also in the people who are in contact with this individual.
