Business Valuation Using Simulation
Gavrylyuk, Zinayida ; Mařík, Miloš (advisor) ; Luxemburk, Patrik (referee)
The following thesis is focused on the use of Monte Carlo simulation in business valuation. It examines the theoretical context of the valuation process and simulation techniques and subsequently applies these to the valuation of Plzeňský Prazdroj, a. s. as of 31.3.2008. The aim was to explore the potential of application of Monte Carlo simulation and to interpret obtained information. There was created the valuation model and performed sensitivity analysis based on which there were identified factors which have significant impact on the value. These were further investigated and characterized in terms of probability. Following the extension of the model to include uncertainty factors there was simulated business value in relation to the variability of uncertainty factors and the result was subsequently interpreted. It was concluded that Monte Carlo simulation may be useful predominantly in search for subjective value for investor due to additional information obtained.
Investment project analysis of a biogas power plant
Halama, Adam ; Machek, Ondřej (advisor) ; Krause, Josef (referee)
The goal of this master thesis is to evaluate an investment project to a biogas power plant. The first part of the master thesis defined the essential theory needed for the capital investment decisions. There is overview of the most important investment criteria like net present value and methods and sources of project financing. In the analytical part I calculate the necessary values like revenues, operational costs and depreciation in order to find out projects cash flow. The investment is then evaluated by investment criteria. In order to make the analysis more accurate the sensitivity analysis is made. In the last part of the thesis there is an overview of results and a investment recommendation.
On Two Methods for the Parameter Estimation Problem with Spatio-Temporal FRAP Data
Papáček, Š. ; Jablonský, J. ; Matonoha, Ctirad
FRAP (Fluorescence Recovery After Photobleaching) is a measurement technique for determination of the mobility of fluorescent molecules (presumably due to the diffusion process) within the living cells. While the experimental setup and protocol are usually fixed, the method used for the model parameter estimation, i.e. the data processing step, is not well established. In order to enhance the quantitative analysis of experimental (noisy) FRAP data, we firstly formulate the inverse problem of model parameter estimation and then we focus on how the different methods of data pre- processing influence the confidence interval of the estimated parameters, namely the diffusion constant $p$. Finally, we present a preliminary study of two methods for the computation of a least-squares estimate $\hat{p}$ and its confidence interval.
