Twin Deficit Theory: Comparison of Public Finance and Balance of Payments (Im)balance on the Example of the U.S.A.

The thesis deals with the problems of the state budget and the current account budget balance on the example of the USA. The general problems of the state budget and the current account, Keynesian and monetarist approaches to external economic balance, twin deficit theory in Keynesian conventional and Ricardian classical approach are used as the theoretical foundation. In the practical part the thesis characterizes the USA economy development from the Second World War to nowadays. It stresses especially the American economic policy in each period, the economic growth, the rate of inflation and unemployment. The (im)balances of state budget and current account and its mutual development are discussed on this base. In the end the twin deficit theory and empirical analysis are confronted and some problems are discussed (e.g. the causality in both balances relations, time lag, external and internal factors concerning both balances etc.).
External Economic Balance of the Czech Republic

The thesis analyses the external economic balance of the Czech Republic from 2000 till 2011 based on the balance of payments, investment positions and the external debt statistics. in conjunction with the exchange rate development. The main evaluation indicators used in the thesis are the current account balance, the basic balance and external debt. The thesis explains the causes of the development of these indicators and their consequences, considers the trend and then assess whether we can speak about a sustainable form of the external economic balance in the case of the Czech Republic.
Comparison of Development of Balances of Payments of the Czech and Slovak Republic - the Influence of the Entry and the Way to Eurozone

The final chapter compares the development of the shapes of the Czech and Slovak external economic balance.

This bachelor thesis focuses on the analysis of development of the balance of payments of the Czech Republic in years 2000 -- 2009. The first chapter is theoretical and it deals with the definition of balance of payments, its structure and with basic principles of external economic balance. The second chapter is practical and it describes the balance of payments as a whole. It is also devoted to explanation of the development of individual items of the balance of payments in years 2000 -- 2009, all in relation to important events which influenced Czech economy. The third chapter deals with the shape of external equilibrium of the Czech Republic. It thus talks about the most important balances of balance of payments, country's investment position as well as its foreign debt.

Diploma thesis deals with the US external economic balance, particularly balance of payments, international investment position, indebtness and the dollar exchange rate. The first part includes the theoretical approach to external economic balance and related terms. Furthermore, I focus on the status of current and financial account of the United States in detail. Here I evaluate the balances of BOP parts and search for the explanation of this situation. I also focus on international investment position of the United States, the development of foreign direct investment and debt indicators. The work also contains a detailed analysis of the U.S. balance of payments for the years 2004 - 2008. The last section is a treatise on the history of the dollar, development of its rate, expected future developments and relationships with U.S. major trading partner, China.
