Automatic analysis of videokymographic images by means of higher-level features

Human voice diagnosis is a complicated problem, even nowadays. The reason is poor access to the body itself and the high frequencies of vocal fold vibrations. One of the clinically available imaging methods to address these problems is Videokymography - a technology for capturing the vocal fold vibrations using a special line CCD camera. Individual lines stacked on top of each other form videokymographic recording. Videokymographic images are suitable for automatic characteristics extraction, therefore helping to reduce the laryngologist workload. For this purpose, the set of such methods is being developed in the Department of Image Processing in the Institute of Information Theory and Automation of the Academy of Science of Czech Republic. The ventricular band position and shape determination is one of the important, but difficult, tasks. The aim of this thesis is to propose new method of automatic detection of ventricular band on videokymographic recording using digital image processing techniques.
Influence of Glottal Shape of Human Vocal Fold on its Modal Characteristics

The main goal of the bachelor thesis is to create a parametric model with a variable angle of the human vocal fold and to determine the first two frequencies of vocal fold oscillations for all angles from -40 ° to + 40 °. The result is supported by a review of the anatomy of the human vocal system, the creation and modification of the voice, and current models of the human vocal fold. The model used for this work is created in the 3D CAD Inventor model software. Modal analysis is solved in the computer program ANSYS Workbench, solved using finite element methods.
Application of Fluid-structure Interaction on Oscillating Human Vocal Folds

The presented thesis is involved in the biomechanics of phonation. The aim of the thesis is to set a fluid-structure interaction between the vocal folds and air flow when the pressure from lungs reaches the physiological values. In the expected outcome the self-oscillating vocal folds should be observable with characteristics shape-shift from convergent to divergent. In theory part of the thesis is described Anatomy of the vocal tract, physiology of the human phonation, research of computational simulations, experiments and visualisation methods are described in the theory part of the thesis. In the second part, setup of computational simulation with the finite element method is presented. Besides of the fluid-structure interaction the acoustical model is set. Achieved results are presented and compared to the results in literature. Displacements are evaluated from the structural model and pressures, velocities and flow velocities are evaluated from fluid model, so as acoustics results.

Computational modelling of mucosal wave propagation in human vocal folds

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the influence of material parameters of individual layers of vocal cord tissue on the propagation of mucosal waves on the vocal cord model. First, a brief overview of current approaches in experimental and computational modeling of mucosal wave propagation is given on the basis of the literature. Furthermore, the influence of the modulus of elasticity in the tensile epithelium and the surface lamina of propria on the natural frequencies and shapes of oscillations is investigated by means of modal analysis. Mucosal wave propagation was then analyzed using transient analysis in response to the vocal cords to shock excitation by force on the lower part of the vocal cords. The influence of material parameters on the amplitude and speed of mucosal wave propagation over the vocal cord surface was evaluated. In the end of this thesis, the recommendation is given, according to the recorded results, to use lower modulus of elasticity in tension of the surface lamina propria in models with interaction with air flow, because there is much more pronounced mucosal wave propagation corresponding to the behavior of real human vocal cords.
Influence of airflow control with vocal cords on dynamic stand stabilization

Title: The effect of airway control on stance dynamic stability Objectives: The aim of this thesis is to find out whether and how will the influence of vocal cords modulation be manifested on the dynamic stabilization of the standing body during translational shifts of the supporting surface of different intensities and A-P directions. Thus, building on the findings of Massery et al (2013). Methods: The thesis has the character of qualitative research. The experiment was attended by 23 healthy probands, of which 7 men and 16 women aged 20-40 years. Spirometry was used to test the objectivity of airway airflow during breathing / phoning maneuvers with different vocal cords positioning and dynamic computer posturography using the Neurocom Smart Equi Test System and its Motor Control Test, which evaluated the effectiveness of automatic postural responses. We connected the posturograph with the spirometer using the Kistler accelerometer (type 8766A100BB). The course of the experiment was simultaneously recorded by a camera (GoPro Hero 7). The Smart EquiTest System generated three postural perturbations of different intensity (S - sub treshold, M - threshold, L - saturating) in two directions (anterior translation / posterior translation). Computational modeling of the influence of geometry and material model on vibration of human vocal folds

This theses focuses on a research of existing material and geometry models. Its effort is to gather and organize gathered information thus so that overview of geometries and material models was created. Furthermore an influence of Young’s modulus in tension of particular vocal fold layers was investigated using modal analysis. This was made for one three-dimensional (3D) and two two-dimensional (2D) geometry models.
Nursing caring for a patient with thyroid gland disease

This bachelor's thesis "Nursing care for female patient with thyroid disease" consists of two parts describing theory and practise. Theoretic part provides basic information about thyroid gland - anatomy, histology and physiology - function in human organism, followed by description of goitre, the most frequent disease requiring surgical intervention, focused on disorder reasons, incidence symptoms, diagnostics, therapy, possible complications and prognosis for patients suffering this disease. Part of the literary researche describes the nursing care process for patient with planned neck surgery, and the role of the nurse in pre- operative preparation and a post-operation care. Practical part presents a case story of 53 years old female patient from diagnosis to definitive surgical solution. Case story has been described according to the Marjorie Gordon nursing modus, which accentuates biologic and social needs of the client. After presentation of basic data on patient, diagnostics and therapy of her disease and hospitalisation course, the story has been focused on specific needs of the client, formulation of nursing diagnoses, targets and plans, their realisation and evaluation. Numerical modelling of vocal folds

Title: Numerical modelling of vocal folds Author: Mgr. Bc. Jakub Michálek Department: Geophysics Department Supervisor: RNDr. Jakub Velímský, Ph. D., Geophysics Department Abstract: I created a 2D model of vocal fold oscillations driven by interaction with fluid flow (FSI model). I used the theory of finite strains of the structure. The flow was modelled as a viscous incompressible fluid. The numerical problem was solved by the finite element method (FEM) with the arbitrary Lagrangian- Eulerian (ALE) method. The model shows the regime before phonation without the contact of the vocal folds and the states that directly lead to the contact of the vocal folds. I compared the time dependence of the quantities measured at sensors attached to the folds. I measured the frequency characteristics and compared the results with the modal analysis. Consequently, I calculated a parametric study of the dependence of the oscillations on the inlet air velocity, the original distance of the vocal folds and the elasticity of the vocal folds. The parametric study confirms that a sufficient increase of the inlet air velocity and a sufficient constriction of the glottis lead to the phonation onset.
