Seniors and volunteerism (in the context of contemporary civil society)
OSTRÁ, Petra
The bachelor thesis consists of theoretical and practical part. Theoretical part is divided into three main chapters: civil society, voluntary work and life in old age. The first chapter analyses the civil society and the corresponding civic sector. The second chapter focuses on the basic features of volunteerism(and voluntary work). The terms volunteerism and volunteer are explained, describing various types of volunteerism and the motivation of voluntary workers. The third chapter is dedicated to the topic of life in old age. The definitionsof terms ageing and old age, the recent phenomenon of elderly people within the major society and activities in old age are the main features of the chapter. Furthermore, it takes a closer look on the present attitudes of the society towards the elderly resulting in two main points of view: skeptic and optimistic (successful ageing concept). The practical part of the thesis is mapping the motivation of senior volunteers towards active voluntary work in the districts of Vodňany and Drahonice. Secondly, the proportion of men to women among volunteers is being questioned as well as which particular activities are typical for senior volunteers. The acquired data originate directly from local non-profit organizations which provide voluntary service. As a research method, quantitative research was chosen {--} using the methods of questioning and standardized interviews with senior volunteers.
The Types of Volunteers in the Volunteer Centre
KOLPASKÁ, Kateřina
Anyone who wants to dedicate his or her time, energy, knowledge or abilities in favour of other people or society can become a volunteer. There is wide range of services and tasks where a volunteer can be used. The volunteer{\crq}s activities are conveyed and coordinated by a volunteer centre. The mission of a volunteer centre is the promotion and support of the voluntary work in the society. The theoretical part of this thesis is focused on the explanation of the basic terms, history and the types of voluntary work. The Czech Voluntary Work Act (zákon o dobrovolnické službě {--} Law No. 198/2002 Sb.) which defines the terms as volunteer, voluntary work, structures organizations, that deals with the acreditations of volunteer centres, is also mentioned. This thesis is further dedicated to the types of volunteers from the aspect of motivation, social rank and values. It consideres the volunteer centre in general, the Volunteer Centre of the ZSF JU and the chosen volunteer programmes of ZSF. The objective of this thesis is the qualitative mapping of criteria (motivation, values and social rank) which influence the volunteer who enters the Volunteer Centre of the ZSF JU in České Budějovice. The questioning method and questionnaire technique has been used for the quantitative reasearch. The monitored group was formed by volunteers from the volunteer programmes of the Volunteer Centre of the ZSF JU. Based upon the monitoring of this data, it is obvious that from the aspect of social rank, female students from the Faculty of Health and Social Studies are the ones who most often become volunteers in the Volunteer Centre of the ZSF JU. It has been further discovered that the volunteers in the Volunteer Centre of the ZSF JU profess non-material values (such as love, friendship, education, hobbies and interests) and, as the main motivation that these volonteers have considered are: to help other people and to also gain new experiences and skills. The results of my Bachelor`s thesis could serve as information material for the Volunteer Centre of the ZSF JU or similar university volunteer centres.

Pro-Social behaviour of volunteers
ŠTORKOVÁ, Andrea
The bachelor thesis titled ``Pro-Social Behaviour of Volunteers{\crqq} addresses volunteering and volunteers, and compares differences in pro-social behaviour of volunteers and the common population. The research verified two hypotheses: 1. Volunteers show a higher level of pro-social tendencies and behaviour than people without any volunteering experience. 2. Long-term volunteers show a higher level of pro-social behaviour and tendencies than people having short-term volunteering experience. Both the hypotheses have been confirmed.
Expectation of volunteers from volunteer activities in the hospital.
TALICH, Jan
In this work, the author focuses on the volunteering program ``Volunteers in hospitals{\crqq} in connection with senior care in medical facilities. Owing to this he could deal with the issue more naturally and thoroughly. More specifically, he focuses on the volunteers{\crq} expectations of their work which is performed with no financial award in their free time. Fulfilled expectation is a crucial factor in volunteers{\crq} motivation and influences not only their efficiency but also their endurance. In the practical part, the author focuses on assessing expectations of volunteers involved in two volunteering programs realized in hospitals in České Budějovice and Pelhřimov. He used a qualitative form of research and applied a method of questionning. He interviewed volunteers, coordinators and contact persons in the two hospitals. In this way, he created a complex view of volunteer activity and compared expectations of volunteer work of the different parties involved. By comparing the volunteer programs he presented the practical impact of two different organization structures. The work can thus serve as a feedback for the above-mentioned volunteering programs and as a support and stimulus to the coordinators of ``Volunteers in hospitals{\crqq} in their further motivational and guidance work.
Development of volunteering in Týn nad Vltavou
KOCOVÁ, Jaroslava
A volunteer is a person who provides his/her time, his/her energy, knowledge and skills for the benefit of other people or the society in general, with no claim for remuneration. Complexity of preparation of volunteers depends on the activities they prepare for. Training of volunteers is a part of professional approach to volunteering. Supervision, without which high quality volunteering would be impracticable, is also necessary. My Bachelor Work provides the basic insight into volunteering in the Czech Republic in the theoretical part. The following chapters deal with methodology of work with volunteers. A health care centre in Týn nad Vltavou, where the research was performed, is also introduced here. The Bachelor Work was aimed at mapping the situation in volunteering in Týn nad Vltavou. Quantitative research was applied to data collection, the methods of controlled dialogue, questioning, questionnaire technique and uncotrolled dialogue were used. The respondent group consisted of the managers of health care and social facilities in Týn nad Vltavou and volunteering co-ordinators in facilities using volunteers. An uncotrollled dialogue was conducted with a Municipal Authority officer. The results of the Thesis have shown that volunteers are used in the social sphere in Týn nad Vltavou, which confirmed my first hypothesis. The results achieved also refer to the fact that the facilities do not provide basic volunteering service to the volunteers from the volunteering management point of view. The second hypothesis was thus overcome. I would like to contribute to publicity of volunteering not just in Týn nad Vltavou but in general by this Work. I hope that the Thesis will stimulate the use of volunteering also in the facilities where volunteers are not being used yet. The Work is going to be offered to the Municipality of Týn nad Vltavou, which has schown interest in that within its community planning.
Volunteering as a part of professional development of the students of ZSF JCU
KUČEROVÁ, Lucie
Volunteering is currently establishing its place in the life of the general public in the Czech Republic. More and more students take part in volunteering programs. Volunteering has many positive sides for the organizations that involve volunteers in their activities as well as for their clients and it enriches the lives of volunteers themselves. In the theoretical part of her work the author describes volunteering in the Czech Republic in the past and present. She investigates volunteering, the preparation of volunteers, their professional preparation during their studies and their supervision at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. The aim of the work is to map out the influence of active volunteering on the professional lives of the students of ZSF JU (Health and Social Department, University of South Bohemia). The next aim is to establish what students know about the possibilities of volunteering, what percentage of students are active volunteers and if they relate volunteering to their professional development. The research method was asking questions, the technique was a questionnaire and a managed interview. The respondents were students of full-time studies at ZSF JU studying the following subjects: Rehabilitation and Psycho Social Care of Handicapped Children, Adults and Old Age People (both bachelor and master studies) and Prevention and Rehabilitation of Social Pathology. The results of the research show that students are aware of the positive influence of volunteering on their professional development. They know the benefits of volunteering with regards to using knowledge obtained at school, learning new procedures and gaining new knowledge. The hypothesis ``Students of ZSF JU are not aware of benefits of volunteering for their professional development{\crqq} was rejected. The hypothesis ``Taking part in volunteering programs helps students gain new skills{\crqq} was proved. The results of the research can be used as information and study material for the support of volunteering at and outside of ZSF JU. It can also help raise awareness of individual programs at ZSF JU and on the opportunities volunteering gives students.
Volunteer co-ordinator´s role in health and social services
CODLOVÁ, Jitka
Although the co-ordinator of volunteers is the key person of the volunteers management we do not know much about the role of the co-ordinator, contents of his work and personality characteristics he needs for his profession; the necessary material concerning this issue is still missing. The theoretical part of the submitted treatise explains briefly the basic concepts as volunteering, volunteer, volunteers in the health and social field. It analyses in details the person of the co-ordinator of volunteers. The target of the bachelor{\crq}s thesis is to map the contents of work of the co-ordinator of volunteers in the health and social field, their motivation for performing this activity and their personality characteristics. Hypotheses: 1.The co-ordinators of volunteers took part in the training organized by the National Volunteer Hestia Centre. 2.The co-ordinators of volunteers consider the communicative and organizational abilities for most important. 3.The most frequent motivation for the work of co-ordinator of volunteers is the possibility of self-fulfilment. The selected technique is the questioning by the questionnaire with the randomly selected co-ordinators of volunteers and volunteers working in the health and social field from volunteer centers in the whole Czech Republic. Another applied method is the analysis of the document. It follows from the results of the research that the contents of the work of volunteer co-ordinator is very broad. The co-ordinators of volunteers consider their communication and organizational abilities for most important. The main motivation for the activity is acquiring the new experience and possibilities of self-fulfillment. The permitted research confirmed the second and third hypothesis, the first hypothesis has not been confirmed. This bachelor{\crq}s treatise may be utilized for organizations performing the training of co-ordinators of volunteers, as manual for the participants of the research and future co-ordinators.
Interaction between nurses and volunteers at hospital
LHOTSKÁ, Martina
Volunteering has not started to develop in the Czech Republic until 1989. It has reached also hospitals where volunteers come to see hospitalized patients to cheer them up and to assist at the daily routine. The main role of medical staff is to meet all patients´ needs {--} biological, emotional, social and spiritual ones. It is volunteers who help a lot in fulfilling this duty. The thesis is focused on the cooperation between staff nurses and volunteers in hospital. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the history of volunteering, all the steps of the procedures leading to competence of treating patients. In the practical part the quantitative research is used. The first objective was to examine attitudes of staff nurses towards volunteers, i. e.if staff nurses consider volunteers´assistance to be of great benefit to patients. The second objective was to learn how volunteers assess staff nurses´ attitudes to their activities in hospital. To gather data questionnaires for staff nurses as well as volunteers were made up. The research was conducted in January and February 2008 in six nursing units in four hospitals in the regions of South Bohemia and Vysocina. According to the results of the research staff nurses largely appreciate volunteers´ assistance. Despite of that fact there were several averse responses on the part of staff nurses that may be the result of lack of information available. According to the feeling of volunteers themselves their concern in nursing is highly appreciated by most staff nurses. Of course, there is a lot to improve to achieve general satisfaction in this area. The research also includes an interview with a contact person between the two groups involved in the care for patients. The contact person´s view of the cooperation between staff nurses and volunteers is favourable. But there are still some difficulties in introducing the volunteer program into hospitals. The contact person is competent to give advice how to prevent possible misunderstandings between the medical staff and volunteers and mainly how not to discourage devoted volunteers from their service. The results of my research were requested by hospitals in Pelhrimov and Jihlava. They may be also provided to any health care facility interested in introducing the program called Volunteers in hospital into practice. This may help them to get valuable information from health care facilities experienced in volunteering.
