New settlement findings form Young and Late Roman Period in Sudoměřice

During the years 2003 and 2004 Institute for Archaeological Heritage Conservation Brno excavated a polycultural site NW of Sudoměřice. Among others there were recognized remains of the barbarian settlement from the Late Roman Period. The archaeological component is represented by the rests of four sunken-floor dwellings, unidentified settlement pits and the assemblage of movable items. Besides dominating pottery of local production there were observed e.g. categories of roman-provincial pottery, Germanic brooches, combs and spur.

The article describes population and settlement development of Czech border regions between 1930 and 1974. The study deals with the evaluation of the process of settlement desertion after 2 nd World War, especially after the expulsion of the German population from the Czech Republic. After we analysed about 250 settlement units which were perished in these two decades, we formulate main factors of settlement desertion process.

Settlement from the time of Lausitz culture in Velké Hoštice

From october 2001 till may 2002 the rescue archaeological excavation in Velké Hoštice was led and the border of the locality from the time of Lausitz culture , dated to the phases RHA1-A2, was discovered. The object 557 was the only one, dated to the phases RBC2-RBD.
