Visual Interpretation of Karel Čapek's R. U. R. (Theoretical-practical work)

Submitted Thesis consists of two parts theoretical and practical. The theoretical part aims at the chronological mapping and analyzing of all available Czech editions of Karel Čapek's play R.U.R. from 1920 until 1989. It also deals with design-transformations of Čapek's Robot on the examples of selected theatre plays in Czech lands as well as in foreign countries performances. The Thesis pays attention to stage executions on the basis of period photographs, drawings and reviews. It is created a united survey of this Čapek's play in the Czech lands in the given time period from its origins until its theatre realizations and book publications. The practical part of the Thesis will then extend the historical play book covers given in the theoretical part by creating an original author book based on Čapek's play, which will be the visual interpretation of the text. By that will be produced a continuity between the theoretical and the practical part of the Thesis.

This thesis is under the name of Johan Wolfgang Goethe, Faust and has a theoretical and practical form, whereas is divided into three parts. The theoretical part deals mainly about Faust analysis, Johann Wolfgang Goethe´s work, further author´s life and personality are summarized in general level. The practical part is dedicated to the book design and illustrations for this work. The third didactic part creates on the basis of findings from the theoretical and practical part base for lesson of art education in the framework of the educational expertise.

The thesis deals with question of linking visual representation of a literary work of art. It focuses primarily on the genre of book illustration and the question of the relationship between verbal and visual components literary work, resp. possibilities and limits of the language transformation and visual representation. Theoretical explanation accompanies the analysis of several illustrations of specific works of Czech literature in their relation to visual text.

The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to analyze the issue of illustration, its relationship to scenography and its function in the theatrical context. The work focuses mainly on illustration as a phase in the creative process and its transformation into language on stage. The bachelor's thesis is composed of two larger text units and an appendix containing images. The first part of the work provides an explanation of the term illustration, a historical context, a general overview of the issues related to illustration and the stage, important figures related to illustration, as well as the author's own perspective on this topic. The subjective nature of this work lends more space to the second part, in which the author's own scenographic practice serves as a demonstration and elaboration of the theoretical findings as described in the first part. Indeed, practical experience in the field can effectively represent the claims, which would not fully convey the meanings if they remained only in the theoretical realm. The bachelor's thesis is permeated with images that illustrate the written passages accordingly. Documentation of the auteurial theatre performance Korvína is attached at the end of the work.

This bachelor thesis analysis Jacques Tati's masterpiece Playtime. It is searching, exploring and identifying its artistic instruments, technique and whole style that creates Tati's universe. It describes how elements function, how they are connected and how they interact with each other. All this thesis are demonstrated on examples and illustrations. There are numbers of quotations of great film director (Robert Bresson, Andrej Tarkovskij) whose thoughts are closely connected to Jacques Tati's work.

Abstract The thesis consists of two parts: theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part of my thesis I would like to describe the development of art, especially the prehistoric times, the specifics of the time and gradual changes, focusing on the life of prehistoric creatures and their development. Zoom personalities related to this topic, especially illustrators, painters, filmmakers, who are involved in public awareness about the picture of the time. Finally, I would like to mention the influence of authors and styles of the 20th century and approached the work of contemporary artists inspired by this theme. In the practical part of the thesis, deals with the presentation selected and died out creatures. To this I would like to take the theoretical and practical knowledge based on my work involved.
Smoke and Mirrors - Illustrations by Neil Gaiman´s Book

The intention of this thesis is to create a collection of illustrations to fantasy stories Smoke and Mirrors: Short Fictions and Illusions by Neil Gaiman. File also includes book cover and flyleaf. The theoretical part focuses on the current trends in book design. First chapter explains concept, importance and historical context of illustration; the next chapter describes present illustration´s technologies. Next part focuses on Neil Gaiman, the author of the book, and his leading illustrator Dave McKean. Last chapter of the theoretical part compares covers and illustrations of foreign copies of book Smoke and Mirrors. The practical part includes detailed notes about working procedure and technologies used. Finally an interpretation to the individual illustrations is given.
