Socio-charitable works of the founders of the Pontifical Mission Societies

The thesis deals with a probe into the past and the lives of the four founders of the Pontifical Mission Societies. It describes the value and purpose of the missionary activities. Furthemore, it introduces the missionary profession from the point of view of the church and of the three last Popes. It delivers an evidence of the life of the poor in missionary countries and a testimony of two missionaries. It shows both a positive and negative sides of the missionary activities. In the conclusion, it introduces projects supported by the Czech Republic.

Moments of Surprise and Reversal in Selected Parables of the Gospel according to Luke

This thesis concerns with moments of surprise and moments of reversal in selected texts of the Gospel according to Luke: in parables introducing "one rich man". Initially it considers parable as a phenomenon theoretically, presents special emphasises of Luke's theology, outlines period of Jesus and of Luke, and deals with rhetoric and rhetorical criticism. It detects moments of surprise and of reversal in selected parables, and proves their significance using elements of rhetorical analysis. It approaches parables within their immediate frame, and within Jesus' particular speech in its entirety as well, as it is presented in the Gospel of Luke. Thesis detects their internal connection and their connection with the complex of the Gospel. It presents the capture of the theme and its shift in the subsequent parables, being aware of the metonymic density of the parables and of their form and subject matter interconnected in selected texts to impressive effect, in the very moments of surprise and of reversal.

To Be As A Children? Exegesy Of Mk 10:13-16 The study deals with the exegesis of the pericope of the Gospel of Mark (Mk 10:13-16), generally known under the title The Little Children and Jesus. A part of the work is dedicated to the text of the pericope, not only from the point of view of its Czech translation, but also with consideration of the Greek text through which we strive to understand the original message of the author and its perception by the then recipients as well as the contemporary ones. To grasp the studied text better, it is perceived in the immediate context of the Transjordan passage of the Second Gospel, as well as in the broader context of the entire Gospel of Mark. Mark's text and his compositions are also compared with the parallel texts of synoptic gospels whose authors used Mark's original as a background. Two separate chapters are dedicated to the analysis of two crucial terms of Jesus's statement in the fifteenth verse: children - as the ancient and postmodern interpretations may differ significantly - and the kingdom of God, which is the core of the pericope, as well as the entire Mark's narration of Jesus's earthly preaching. Women in Jesus' public ministry in the Gospel of Luke (Luke 8:1-3; 10:38-42; 23:49)

The Diploma thesis "Women in Jesus' public ministry in the Gospel of Luke (Luke 8:1- 3; 10:38-42; 23:49)" analyzes 3 selected extracts from the Gospel of St. Lukas specifically focusing on women. Those accompanied Jesus, Marie and Martha and the women under the cross at the time of his crucifixion. The selected texts have been analyzed individually but also in relationship to their context in the whole Gospel of St. Lukas. Lukas writes about women more often than other Evangelists. His view is in this way completely remarkable and progresive for this time, he describes women more positively than their male counterparts. Lukas progressivness is demonstrated in small segments of his writing which exemplifies his undrestanding of the role of women in Grecian, Roman or Jewish societies. Selected extracts from the Gospel of Lukas each, in thier own way, show the important role of women in Jesus' public activity. Among Jesus' followers, as has been recorded by Lukas, women belonged to this group they listened to his words, supported him and accompanied him on his way to the cross. Lukas tries to explain the meaning which God intended for women in the history of the path to Salvation.

The Image of the Apostle Peter in the Work of the Evangelist Luke

The Image of the Apostle Peter in the Work of the Evangelist Luke. This thesis focuses on examining the character of the leader of the group Twelve in the work of Luke the Evangelist. Introduction outlines the baseline of the entire treatise. The first part of the chapter presents information on the author of two New Testament writings himself, followed by an indication of the circumstances under which the work was shaped. Afterwards the views of experts are presented on the possible sources from which the author composed and edited the final text. This part ends in effort to determine the expected place and time of origin of the whole work. The second part of the first chapter informs on the theology of Luke's writings. This part contains discussion of the authors' intentions and theological accents with regard to the first of the apostles. Due to more complex view there is also mentioned a statistical survey of the character Peter the Apostle in episodes of different New Testament books. The second chapter forms the backbone of the work, and again in two subsections presents information obtained by studying the available literature on all periscopes in Luke's diptych in which the leader of the Apostles emerges as one of the main characters. A tresury in The New Testament

The thesis summarizes conclusions of exegetical studies of all fourteen texts containing a word "treasury" (thesauros) according to concordance of the Greek New Testament, and furthermore in three instances substitutes for treasury, using lingual and textual analysis and accessible Czech and foreign language commentaries. As far as other terms are concerned, a term "talent/mina" is used in the Gospel of Mathew and Luke in The parable of the talent/minas, where "talent/mina" fulfills all internal and external attributes for "treasury". In the Gospel of John, where we find no term "treasury", there is chosen "ointment" in the story of Anointing in Bethany for its symbolic meaning and relation to the Easter, where John's version is compared with description of the story in the synoptic gospels. Classifying of concluding interpretational frames of all seventeen texts, we get several fundamental models characterizing the role of "treasury" in the New Testament from the point of view of substance, allegory, symbolism or connotation. The treasury is the image of something precious, strange to the world, something we have a very small experience with, because we usually have not opportunity to be confronted with it. Jesus' Prayer in the Gospel of John

Gospel according to John is topic of many researchers. Therefore is surprising that few of them concerns to Jesus prayers. This thesis "Prayer of Jesus in Gospel according to John" deals with a language analysis and exegesis of the John 17, fitted in context of Jesus prayer in setting John's Gospel. 2nd chapter frames the gospel and his author into some historical contexts. 3rd chapter concerns of Jesus' prayer at all. Issue of 4th chapter concerns prayer of Pontifex Jesus. It describes and festively pronounces communio. This community Jesus gradually established through his activities, by mindsets a contacts with listeners and Father. Tail end of this pare tries evaluate today's heritage of this grave text.

Symbols in the Gospel of John

The gospel of John contains measureless amount of symbolical expressions which help better understanding of better author's message to the readers and also set higher exegetical demands for deeper penetration into meanings of the symbols and relations between them. Symbolism in the gospel of John can be revealed in its expressions, characters, actions and the cross itself. The bachelor thesis analyses particular symbols, classify them into the thematic groups and explains their meanings. This goal is not possible achieve without consideration of their not only theological but also literary and socio-historical aspect. Majority of symbols like a light, darkness or bread can evoke many different meanings to the reader. This fact leads to the extreme situation like imagination of any possible meaning of the symbols. The thesis is searching for true meaning using secondary literature. Symbols are presented like a human medium for expressions of divine facts for easier grabbing for human. Seventh-Day Adventists between modernism and postmodernism

This work reflects on how the Seventh-day Adventist Church meets the challenges of postmodernism, despite itself having its roots deep in the modern era. The first part deals with the origin of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and the development of its dogma. It primarily focuses on the Thomas Reid?s philosophy of common sense and describes the Adventist statements of dogma that are typical of this church and were influenced by the philosophy of common sense. The second part analyses how this church deals with the challenges of the postmodern era. It describes the current categorisation of Adventist theology on the basis of the differing macro-hermeneutic of the individual streams that depend on how they view the relationship between God and time. It also indicates the practical impacts that these various approaches to church praxis lead to. The aim of this work is to be as objective as possible in describing the current situation and show the potential risks and solutions that the church and its members face. In the author?s opinion, an adequate response to the problems of Adventism in the postmodern era can be found in shifting the emphasis to a general Christian perspective and in redefining specifically Adventist teachings.
