Visual Art in the Housing Estates of Brno (1945–1989)
Kořínková, Jana ; Bartlová, Milena (referee) ; Hrůša, Petr (referee) ; Chamonikolasová, Kaliopi (advisor)
With special attention being paid to the development in the city of Brno, the dissertation focuses on the issue of applying artworks in Czechoslovak architecture after World War II. The main research questions – Why were in Czechoslovakia after 1945 artworks again integrated in architecture and what strategies were applied in the case of the newly built housing estates in the city of Brno? – are answered in two successive sections. First, the institutional background for application of art in architecture in the light of the events in Brno (1945–1993) is examined; the closing part is devoted to three case studies that illustrate local development in the period of socialist realism, creative release of the1960s and political normalization. The aim is to highlight the complexity of the examined subject and refute a popularly handed down conviction that integration of artworks into architecture in the period of socialism was motivated exclusively by the communist propaganda, and to show that the attempts to create a synthesis of art and architecture were also based both on earlier theoretical considerations about the educational function of art and its effect on humans and the need to improve poor economic situation of artists after World War II.

This bachelor thesis is focused on analysis of financing the British war economy during Second World War. The main goal of this thesis is to provide comprehensive view on aspects of financing a war economy in general and to illustrate those aspects on the example of Great Britain. The first part deals with pre-war period with accent on the process of rearmament. The second part defines means of war-time finance in general and then analyses their specific application in Great Britain. This part is also dedicated to comparison of approaches to financing war economy in Great Britain and Germany. The third part concerns specific issues of acquiring American dollars in order to finance government purchases of goods from the United States within boundaries of Cash and Carry doctrine. This part also analyses methods applied to acquiring American dollars and evaluates their importance to the British economy. Part of this thesis is also description of collaboration between Great Britain and United States after adoption of Lend-Lease act. Based on accessible information I answered the main questions about used methods and structure of financing British war finance. Half of the expenditure was met by raised taxation, which relied mostly on income tax. The other half of expenditure was covered by borrowings. The main source of the borrowings were the British citizen`s savings. In order to prevent macroeconomic destabilization the government introduced rationing and income taxes. These steps were successful in limiting demand-pulled inflation. Final analysis of means used to acquire American dollars states that those methods were unsuccessful in providing sufficient amounts of dollars. Therefore the introduction Lend-Lease act was essential to British war effort.

STRAKA, Jan
The work is primary focused on John Duns Scotus' argumentation for the univocity of the concept of being, as is presented in his Lectura and Ordinatio. The first part briefly presents the realistic theory of the concept, wich serves as a framework of all examined discusion. Then, in the second part, we very briefly eximine Aristotelian theory of analogy and the aporia generis. The end of this part presents Henry of Gent?s theory of analogy, and its noetical postulates. The third part, the main one, deals with Scotus? arguing against the analogy of the concept of being, and presents the main points of his theory of the univocity of being: the definiton of the univocal concept, the concept of being that is univocialy applicable to both an infinite and a finite being; and his formal and modal disctinction. Last part again simply points out to the main Scotus? thoughts and also to some problems of his theory.
