Medial image of candidates for president in second round of elections

The aim of this bachelor thesis is Media image of the candidates for president in the second round of elections, which were held in the Czech Republic in 2013. Using the method of content analysis and visual analysis of three of the most read online news, outcomes were found. The purpose was to find out if some of the news favored one of the candidates, if the news supported stereotypes about candidates and how they reached it. It was found, that all online news wrote in favor of Karel Schwarzenberg. They showed him (through photos, headlines and reports) more often in positive way then they showed his rival Miloš Zeman. Server Novinky.cz showed both candidates the most often of all online news in positive way. It published the most of the headlines, pictures and reports, which were positive. The most objective daily news was Aktualne.cz, because of the fact, that it published the largest number of neutral photos, headlines and reports of all servers. The proportion of positive and negative reports was in this server the most even of all. Miloš Zeman was showed in the most cases as a self-confident man with empty hands. Catastrophe in America: Critical Discoursive Analysis of Hurricane Sandy in Czech Press

This thesis analyzes the way of presenting the catastrophe called Sandy in the Czech media. The motivation for choosing this topic was the ascertainment that the information about Sandy narrows only on the information about New York in spite of the fact, that this hurricane, sometimes called tropical storm or "superstorm" caused many injuries in the area of Cuba, Jamaica, the Bahamas and especially Haiti. The analysis is realized by force of critical discourse analysis of Norman Fairclough, because this method is appropriate especially for analysing mass media texts in the way of offering complex view from the level of social context, through the process of production to the language form of texts. Consequently, theoretical background comes from the methods and concepts of Norman Fairclough, from the definition of media discourse, which is oriented on new media, news and news values. The analysis is oriented on the most readable Czech online news and the on the news web pages of the Czech public service television and the Czech public service radio. Realization of czech mass media on the internet

The paper concerns the relation of mass media and the theories of information and communication and the influence the internet has on the field of mass communication. Another part of the study evaluates how are the czech mass media organizations, with an accent on the daily newspaper format internet websites, adopting certain internet technological trends, from the point of view of understanding and implementing these technologies and also from the point of view of delivering their contents through these formats to their audiences. An internet questionaire has been elaborated to appraise these objects too. It's output and commentaries of the findings are to be found at the end of the work. The last object of my interest in this study is to find out what the role of technology when it comes to interpretation of the information is and what is the meaning of technology in the process of communication.
