4 Elements
Špundová, Veronika ; Trhoň, Ondřej (referee) ; Šrámek, Jan (advisor)
Through two textile objects, which are performatively brought and installed in Lužánky Park in Brno for the purposes of its defense, the diploma thesis 4 Elements reveals and further develops the designed reality and mythology of four colorful elements – principles – roles – identities – anti-heroic demons – avatars: #ccff00, #000000, #c0c0c0 and #cc99ff, as actors with symbolic potential, with whom it experiments as a form of visual scenario for a future LARP game. Part of the work is a circular object, which is a transport case for the second spherical object, with the fact that both of them function as interconnected works as well as independently. The circle is a camping blanket, map or gateway to the designed reality of the 4 elements, and the sphere concentrates their collage-like imaginative memetic picture medallions around its axis. Textile rhizomes or long fibers leading from both objects connect the objects with the landscape, with other planetary actors. The work is based on schools of thought such as posthumanism, new materialism, material feminism, climate crisis and post-anthropocentric contemporary philosophy or media theory and visual studies.
Ideology and Law
Kerndl, Robert ; Žák Krzyžanková, Katarzyna (referee)
Ideology and Law Abstract In the presented work, I examine in depth the concept of ideology in its historical changes. Afterward, I relate these various forms to law. My work aims to analyze how law and ideology interact and whether there is an inherent relationship between them. I am therefore concerned with answering the question whether law is ideological, or under what conditions law and the application of law are influenced by ideology. The work is divided into three parts. In the first part, I address the notion of ideology. Here I examine how Karl Marx and his followers grasped and elaborated on this notion. I show the transformation of the Marxist conception of ideology in the works of Lenin, Gramsci and Althusser. In the second chapter of the first part, I present a different, historically relevant tradition of understanding ideology that I call, for the purposes of this work, conservative-democratic. In the second discussed tradition, I describe the ideas of Arendt, Popper, Scruton, and Pithart. Subsequently, I compare the two negative concepts of ideology to each other. The second part is devoted to how these negative concepts of ideology can be applied in legal theory. In the first chapter, I focus on the Critical Legal Studies movement, whose proponents were inspired by the previously mentioned...
Memory and Identity of Wenceslas Square
Tucaković, Jana ; Halbich, Marek (advisor) ; Wohlmuth, Petr (referee)
The subject of the thesis is a representation of Wenceslas Square as a space of symbolic importance for Czech society. Historical perspective is conducive to understanding of such unique status. Contemporary space is a subject of commodification in the tourism area. Official memory is represented via public historical exhibitions and rituals connected to the Velvet Revolution. This memory is being updated in context of the war in Ukraine as a fight for democratic values. Protests and manifestations, happening at the square, express the identity of Czech society with connection to the war from positions of establishment and dissent. Within the thesis the contradictions are being examined through common topics - fear and war, hate and solidarity, censorship and disinformation.
Ethical and Political Implications of Thomas Piketty's Work on Economic Inequality
Miledova, Linda ; Salamon, Janusz (advisor) ; Benáček, Vladimír (referee)
French Economist Thomas Piketty, through a study of history and empirical data from different cultures and generations, argues that economic inequality, today, is not a natural outcome of the free market but has deeper roots. Piketty, indeed, asserts, through his extensive analysis of political systems and ideologies, that the trajectory of income inequality depends heavily on the power exercised by the state and other politically-motivated groups that aim to execute their personal agendas at the cost of the rest of society, namely, middle and lower classes. A historical and comparative analysis between various nations and how they justified inequalities in their governments shows that these gaps are politically driven. The results of a colonial eras and the wars are pure proof that inequalities are intentional and certain groups make sure that some countries and classes suffer from poverty for further control and power. Piketty claims that this status quo has become unsustainable and that global legislative changes ought to be implemented to reduce the gap between the rich minorities and lower classes. The French author proposes a progressive wealth tax that would impose higher taxes on wealthier individuals with capitals and assets. The revenues from these taxes will be used to better public...
Not True, but Could Be: Fake News in Current Czech Media
DOLEŽALOVÁ, Barbora
This diploma thesis deals with the phenomenon of fake news and disinformation mainly in the Czech media space, especially on Czech disinformation websites or social networks. The thesis will outline the issues surrounding the notion of fake news and its resolution within democratic regimes. Fake news and misinformation, with particular reference to 'gender ideology', the Istanbul Convention and racist narratives, will be viewed through the prism of intersectional feminism. Using specific visual and textual examples from disinformation websites, it will give examples and use the method of critical discourse analysis to show how the media in question work with text and visual elements and what discursive frames they communicate. The thesis maps the narratives of disinformation websites with respect to contemporary Czech political discourse.
Normalised Museum. Ideology in the Documentation and Presentation of the Museum in Písek in 1968-1978
DUDA, Zdeněk
The thesis is based on an institutional approach to the study of museum phenomena in the past. It focuses on depicting one specific place in the landscape of Czech museums during the period of state socialism and its appearance during the Prague Spring and in the first years of normalization. This place is the former Regional / District and today Prácheň Museum in Písek, which just then wrote one of the most interesting chapters in its history. The aim of the work is to define and describe the contents of documentation and presentation activities of the Písek Museum. The contemporary normative and methodological literature as well as the relation of this activity to contemporary politics and ideology are taken into account. The work is based on the analysis of the period's annual reports of the museum, various occasional prints and publications, newspaper reports, museum documentation and records, but also the relevant period and professional literature. The intention is not only to approach the fate of one particular museum, but also to comment on the role and place of Czech museums in a society that called itself socialist through a case study. The subject of interest in this work is mainly the area of those activities of the museum, which were related to the fulfillment of the defined task and function. With a few exceptions, the issues of management and control of the museum by superior bodies, the reception of the museum and its activities by the general public, as well as the relationship of the museum and its production and activities to the fulfillment of the museum phenomenon remained aside.

History of Czech primary school in village Kájov
MÜLLER, Martin
This bachelor thesis describes the history of the Czech elementary school in Kájov from its founding till 1950. The thesis focusses on the Czech school but at the same time is related to the German schooling. I have worked with on-line accessible school chronicle from The State Regional Archives in Třeboň, but also with non-published memories from family members of Růženka Hotová, the contemporary witness of Kájov. The thesis is focused on Kájov, from its history until the present day, establishment of the education system, Nazi influence, wartime, removals of German inhabitants after the World War II and arrival of communism until 1950. One of the reasons is that lots of materials from that times are accessible and also the importance of mentioned occurrences for Czech people.
