Three lakes problem
Šulc, Dominik ; Hencl, Stanislav (advisor) ; Vejnar, Benjamin (referee)
Historic-geographical land border between Bohemia and Moravia: reconstruction, perception, meanings
Chalupa, Jan ; Chromý, Pavel (advisor) ; Šerý, Miloslav (referee)
Diploma thesis deals with relict land border between Bohemia and Moravia in the context of Moravistic movement which appeared in Czechia after 1989. Aim of the thesis is to assess the existence of relict land border in the minds of people and to reflect the role of the land border in relation to the revival of regionalism and nationalism. The first part of the thesis discusses the theory of relict border, regional identity and nation in the literature. The second part compares the course of the land border with territorial reach of declaring Moravian nationality by inhabitants of the districts adjacent to the border in contemporary censuses and also with the range of the success of Moravistic politic parties in elections. The objective is to compare the border with one of the possible contemporary zones which could delimitate Moravia. The third part of the thesis analyzes the forms and contexts of Moravian identity in two selected municipalities adjacent to the land border. These municipalities represent distinct types of the Czech-Moravian borderland which differ by declaring the nationality, achievements of Moravistic parties in elections, population change after 1945 and inclusion to administrative units in Bohemia or in Moravia. Finally, awareness of the course of the land border in these...
Ising Model Boundary States from String Field Theory
Rapčák, Miroslav ; Schnabl, Martin (advisor) ; Novotný, Jiří (referee)
The Ising model is widely studied model in statistical physics. In this thesis, we review methods used to solve it and we concentrate on the state at the critical temperature, where the system exhibits phase transition and can be described by means of conformal field theory (CFT). This description comes with a new insight into the problem and enables to study boundary effects. Critical behavior for systems with boundaries is often described by conformally invariant boundary conditions. Classification of all boundary CFTs still remains an open problem. We discuss methods developed recently in string field theory (SFT) proposing a new approach and we illustrate it on the Ising model. Knowing a solution to the SFT equations of motion, one can construct corresponding boundary state describing consistent conformally invariant boundary condition. We have formulated SFT for the Ising model, found new solutions numerically, and constructed corresponding boundary states. This procedure avoids solving difficult sewing constraints and results agree with exact values. Unlike the renormalization group approach, where we are limited by the g-theorem, we can construct also states with higher energy. Conformal defects and correspondence with free boson on S^1/Z_2 orbifold is also discussed. This thesis is based on...
Durational variation of segments in read speech of Czech and British speakers of English
Urbanová, Darina ; Volín, Jan (advisor) ; Studenovský, David (referee)
The study focuses on durational variation of segments in read speech of Czech and British speakers of English. The variation in segmental duration was examined in the speech of three Czech and three British speakers with respect to individual vowel and consonant categories. Furthermore, stress and intonation phrase boundary were explored as possible factors influencing segmental duration. The theoretical part of the study focuses on two main topics. The first is foreign accent with regard to accentedness, intelligibility and comprehensibility as well as in connection to its implications and factors which might influence its degree. The second part contains theoretical background about the time domain of speech concerning segmental duration in Czech and English, the area of rhythm, the importance of durational cues in perception and a short survey of factors reported to affect segmental duration. Czech accent in English and the importance of duration in foreign language are also covered. In the empirical part of the study, Czech speakers were found to miss the appropriate proportions between individual vowel categories and realize their long vowels as slightly too short. They lacked an adequate degree of durational contrast in stressed and unstressed vowels when compared to the British speakers. With regard...
The Current Geopolitical Representations in Slovakia and Hungary: Comparative Case Study
Tibenská, Gabriela ; Just, Petr (advisor) ; Krausz Hladká, Malvína (referee)
This work aims to examine the complexity of the current turbulent relationship between Slovakia and Hungary and its influence on the system of Carpathian states. The work is based on the Gérard Dussouy"s (2010) and Gyula Csurgai"s (2009) new geopolitical approach and offers a systemic, dynamic and interdisciplinary analysis of the development in Carpathian basin. The work indentifies the key factors that are feeding the Slovak-Hungarian relations. Consequently, it offers further prospectives of these relations and their reflection within the Carpathian Basin. Moreover, the analysis enables measuring of further development of the Carpathian region.
The Exile Experience in Bertolt Brecht's "Flüchtlingsgespräche"
JAVORSKÁ, Pavla
The main topic of this diploma thesis is the Exile Experience in Bertolt Brecht?s Flüchtlingsgespräche. On the background of political and social change this thesis deals with the question of exile identity as well as with the relationship to home, in this case Germany. Further on, there is an analysis of the boundary and virtue motif. Finally, this diploma thesis deals with the change in the use of language and analyses images of exile life in the time of World War Two.
Chemical composition of (310) [100] symmetrical tilt grain boundary in Ni3Al
Čermák, Jiří
Structure of . .SIGMA.5 (310) [100] symmetrical tilt grain boundary in ordered intermetallic alloy Ni3Al was constructed and relaxed by Monte Carlo method using pair L-J - type interatomic potential. Three modified grain boundary structures were tested. They differed in chemical composition and in relative grain boundary energy. The configuration with the lowest grain boundary energy was enriched on nickel.
Interaction of vacancy with chosen special tilt grain boundaries - Monte Carlo simulation
Čermák, Jiří
Structures of chosen special tilt grain boundaries in ordered intermetallic alloy Ni3Al was simulated by Monte Carlo method. The energy of vacancy formation Efv in both Ni- and Al- sublattices was calculated. Using the values of Efv, calculated for bulk and for the grain boundary atom positions, the energy of interaction between the vacancy and the grain boundary was obtained.
Comparison of site preferences of 57Co at grain boundaries in Fe-Si and Fe-Al alloys
Schneeweiss, Oldřich ; Jirásková, Yvonna ; Čermák, Jiří ; Lejček, P.
Emission Moessbauer spectroscopy was applied to the study of grain boundaries in the polycrystalline samples of iron rich Fe-Al and Fe-Si alloys. The results obtained on Fe-Al samples indicate complicated phase and chemical composition along grain boundaries (GBs). Neither homogeneous increase in Al concentration at GBs nor important site preference of Co atoms is observed. A large fraction of Co atoms occupy positions of lower symmetry. The results on Fe-Si show differencies in the chemical composition in grain interiors (GIs) and at GBs. An increase in Si concentration at GBs is observed there. In Fe-! & at.%Si sample a strong site preference of cobalt atoms at GBs is detected. The diffusing Co atoms prefer the lattice sites, which are expected to be occupied by structural vacancies in the D03 superstructure.
