The Environmental Issues in the Czech Daily Press: News Coverage of Water Issues
Hanušová, Anna ; Nečas, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Jirků, Jan (referee)
This diploma thesis investigates the evolution of news coverage of water-related issues in the Czech daily press from 2014 to 2019. Its theoretical part describes the relationship between mass media and the environment. The characteristics of environmental news are explained more in detail and in the context of environmental topics' features, journalistic routines, news normative demands and economic pressure in the media industry. The topic of the thesis is linked to the media theories about news values, gatekeeping, agenda-setting and framing as well. There is also a review of the studies examining news coverage of the environment and a brief description of the water management situation in the Czech Republic. The methodical part introduces the research goal and previous studies which were used as a base for the method in this paper. The results of the content analysis enabled to describe the news about water issues quantitatively and to explain its features and development according to the theoretical framework and previous findings. This thesis concluded that Czech dailies do not treat the topic of water issues as very important, they are event-oriented, dependent on the official sources and focused on risk-related topics. This can limit public awareness of the problem with decreasing water...
Artificial recharge of groundwater resources
Drmota, Adam ; Datel, Josef (advisor) ; Hrkal, Zbyněk (referee)
This thesis addresses artificial replenishment of groundwater resources, commonly known as artificial recharge. The idea of artificial replenishment of groundwater lies in man-induced transfer of surface water to underground aquifers. The introduction highlights the reasons that led humans to artificially replenish groundwater. In addition, individual methods of surface, subsurface and induced infiltration are described. A special chapter was devoted to natural factors limiting the use of these methods. The thesis also includes studies of three concrete examples of projects of artificial recharge into groundwater by various techniques, each time with a different intention. Specifically, it describes resisting the intrusion of salt water into the Delta Llobregat aquifer in Spain, using the appropriate geological structure as a reservoir of potable water for the drought in South Florida, and the use of artificial infiltration basins and bank infiltration for water use in Káraný, Czech Republic.
Groundwater in the landscape of the South Bohemian region
ŠTÁDLÍKOVÁ, Adéla
The diploma thesis deals with groundwater issues. The village Jenín was chosen for the work. The work contains theoretical and practical part. Theoretical part explains the terms connected with groundwater and its sources. The parctical part describes the area of interest and there are listed the sources of groundwater that were found during the survey of the territory. Within the survey a short analysis of water was carried out for four groundwater sources. The conclusion of this work assesses the current status of groundwater resources and proposes measures. The work includes a list of sources that has been used, photohraphs of the area of interest and short water analysis.
Comparison of environmental policies of Russia and the Czech Republic on the example of water Rrsources.
KOLESOVA, Mariia
The aim of this bachelor thesis is a comparison of environmental policy in Russia and the Czech republic and its effectiveness in the water management field. This work consists specific comparison of results in environmental policy verified by water pollution levels of both Volga and Elbe river. Based on this comparison, work presents recomendations and proposals which could improve the current environmental policy and lead to increase the water quality in mentioned rivers. The work contains a comparison of two indicators: water quality and public health requirements in examined rivers. The research of water quality is based on levels of 6 chemical indicators: pH, COD, BOD, iron, zinc, water hardness, for both rivers in the years 2004, 2010, 2016.
Water resources of Kyrgyzstan as a geopolitical tool
Dresler, Jan ; Jelen, Libor (advisor) ; Anděl, Jiří (referee)
The thesis deals with the importance of water resources and their influence on political development with the example of Kyrgyzstan. The main objective was to find out the role of water resources in domestic politics, how water influences the relationship between Kyrgyzstan and its neighbors, and whether water resources are of interest to the world's superpowers. Geopolitical analysis was carried out on three levels. At national level, water scarcity, uneven distribution and obsolete water systems are a cause of civil discontent. Corruption in the state sphere negates the possibility of modernization of existing water facilities. Water management is dependent on non-governmental associations and foreign financial assistance. At regional level, there is constant tension between Kyrgyzstan, where all the important rivers of the region rise, and the states lying downstream of these rivers. The cause of this tension is different demands of individual states on water use. International treaties address the situation, but are mostly non-functional in the long term. At the supra-regional level, the interests of especially Russia and China collide. Both superpowers seek to prevent US influence in the region. At the same time, they gain a dominant position in Kyrgyzstan in the economic and security spheres....
Fire prevention during harvesting work in farms
ŠVEHLA, Oto
The topic of the bachelor thesis "Fire Prevention in Harvest Work in Agricultural Enterprises" I chose because of the extreme increase of fires during the harvest works in 2015 compared to the last 5 years. This bachelor thesis solves the research question whether the harvesting works from the point of view of fire protection are protected in accordance with legal regulations. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate PO safety during harvest works and to propose measures to reduce the risk of fires occurring in these activities. The thesis is also focused on technical measures in the course of their own work and providing sufficient water resources for fire fighting. The practical part deals with the problems of fires in agriculture, statistics of fires for the period 2011 - 2015 and their causes. Part of the statistics is the comparison of temperatures and precipitation in the territory of the South Bohemian region for the period 2011 - 2015, which was published by the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, which confirms the connection of excessive drought with an increased number of fires. The Bachelor's thesis also mentions the most extensive fire in the South Bohemian region in 2015 - Bavorov, Tourov. The results of the monitored statistics in the practical part show the highest increase of the negligence fires, the technical defects of the harvesting mechanization and the sparkling of the foreign object outside and inside the combines during the drought. For this reason, this thesis compares the current laws, decrees, regulations and standards with already invalid legislation related to the security of these works. As a result, it can be concluded that during the harvest season in 2015, these jobs were not sufficiently secured and the legislation did not deal with them in detail.

It also focuses on illegal migration from Bangladesh to India, analyses its causes and its influence on the security in the North-east India and Indian political scene. Disputes concernig the fresh-water sharing, emerging from Indian dams and irrigation canals, either allready built, or planned. The last part deals with possible connection between one of the aspects of the global warming, sea-level rising, and migration. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Sustainable Development in Canada in Relation to Oil Sands Developments
Podhola, Adam ; Fiřtová, Magdalena (advisor) ; Anděl, Petr (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to evaluate to what extent Canada and Alberta have been fulfilling the principles of sustainable development as they have adopted in the 1990s from the essential U.N. documents - the Brundtland Report and the Rio Declaration- and to what extent both governments failed in providing and enforcing efficient environmental law protection as it is the basic premise for achieving sustainability. I assessed this level of sustainability in Canada and Alberta on the basis of a stronger and weaker sustainability theoretical framework. Author's presumption was that Canada, as it defined sustainable development in its legislation, acted according to stronger sustainability, which emphasizes stronger protective environmental measures. Given a very large scope of environmental impacts of oil extraction on different ecosystems, the sector of water resources was selected to serve as a case study to compare and analyze government and alternative reports assessing the sustainability of water management. Thus, the author follows how the oil industry in Alberta affects the water resources and how both governments of Canada and Alberta provide environmental protection to the water resources. In this respect the author illustrates how the government is reluctant towards the implementation of...
Dynamics of the settlement pattern in the microregion of Zarabag (southern Uzbekistan) on the basis of archaeological sources
Augustinová, Anna ; Stančo, Ladislav (advisor) ; Frank Danielisová, Alžběta (referee)
15 Abstract The following thesis summarizes results of the archaeological research in the microregion of the Zarabag Oasis in the South Uzbekistan. The non-destructive research focused on the collection and evaluation of the archaeological data that allow to reconstruct the settlement dynamics in the oasis during the ages. Previously, there was not archaeological evidence available in the region. The fieldwork in the oasis and its closest surroundings was conducted by way of extensive surface survey (global coverage of the oasis focused on the detection of archaeological evidence), and intensive one (systematic surface survey on a closely defined area). The extensive survey proved to be more suitable for the studied environment in terms of the quality and quantity of the collected archaeological data. One part of the survey consisted in detection of the water sources (springs, surface canals and even remains of the karez systems). The basic units of extensive survey were represented by polygons (gardens, fields, cemeteries, tepas etc.), to which the finds collected during the research were attributed. Their dating in the combination with their spatial distribution allowed then to reconstruct the settlement processes and dynamics in the microregion of the oasis. One part of the research deals also with the...
