Application of cooperative game theory in Cournot oligopoly
Eryganov, Ivan ; Mazal,, Jan (referee) ; Hrdina, Jaroslav (advisor)
This Master’s thesis deals with the application of cooperative game theory for solving the problems of Cournot's oligopolies. The knowledge of oligopoly theory and game theory has been elaborated to build a model describing the behavior of companies at a market that meets the preconditions of Cournot's oligopoly. The definition of cooperative game is based on the -characteristic function, which takes into account, compared to classical methods, that companies which are not in the coalition are pursuing their own profits, not suppressing coalition positions. The properties of the resulting cooperative games are examined in detail, focusing on monotony and convexity. Several theorems about these properties have been derived and their economic interpretations are given. Also, the question of calculation of the -characteristic function using the best-reply dynamics algorithm is being solved, and its convergence for a given type of games is justified. The model is applied to data from the oil market, which is further characterized by the results of the cooperative game.
The core analysis of cooperative games
Kašpar, Martin ; Kopa, Miloš (advisor) ; Adam, Lukáš (referee)
In the present work we study theory of cooperative games and their solution. We assume that all players may form groups and cooperate, and we will try to find a solution, a rule how to divide the profit of the group among individual players. We will focus on a core of the game, its description, theoretical results and methods for analyzing its emptiness. We also investigate core-center, which is one of the known options of choosing single profit division from the core. Then we will construct mathematical model of oligopoly together with method for counting characteristic function from real data. Finally, we apply the model on data from oil market. 1
Coalition Theory for Cournot's Oligopoly Model
Eryganov, Ivan ; Osička, Ondřej (referee) ; Hrdina, Jaroslav (advisor)
This bachelor thesis is devoted to the basic theoretical aspects of game theory, to the behavior of firms in oligopoly conditions and to the building of theory which describe behaviour in cooperative oligopoly games for Cournot's oligopoly. At this work are explained important definitions and they properties are demonstrated in the examples. Further work is focused on cooperative oligopoly games, describing their properties and defining a -characteristic function. Procedure of computing it and the description of some properties of cooperative oligopoly games are demonstrated on two examples.
The Importance and Impact of the Antimonopoly Office in the Czech Republic
Schutová, Markéta ; Svoboda, Roman (advisor) ; Michal, Michal (referee)

Oligopolistic Competition among companies in the Czech Economy
Pilousová, Markéta ; Šrédl, Karel (advisor) ; Hana, Hana (referee)
This diploma thesis is about oligopolistic competition of major retail chain operating on czech market in the food retail sector. Except mathematical prediction of the current retailers revenue-per-square meter growth, this work also mentions companies that decided to leave the Czech market for various reasons, like bad profits and wrongly determined business goals, change of strategy, etc. Main focus of this paper is the development of the retail sales market and examining if there is forming or already is, an oligopol with a dominant company. The market development is analysed based on freely available sources (published profits and annual reports). Total revenues of each retail chains are compared with details about disponible sales area and are displayed in graphs for better image; in the notes there are also details about individual acquisitions. Based on this development, the possible future development of revenue-per-square meter of sales area is mathematically derived.
Oligopolistic Competition among Telephones Operators (including International Comparison)
Procházková, Barbora ; Šrédl, Karel (advisor) ; Hana, Hana (referee)
The subject of this thesis is the analysis of oligopolistic competition in the market of mobile telecommunications services in the Czech Republic in comparison with the neighboring country Germany. This thesis describes the behavior of companies in the telecommunications market in the Czech Republic and Germany and all members associated with them. And also, this part focuses on the competence and activities of the Czech Telecommunications Office and the Office for the Protection of Competition. It shows the important changes that have occurred in recent years in the context of these organs came, showing in which direction the market is evolving and identifies tools to help authorities intervene in the competitive environment of the market. As a special area defined virtual operators and their specific market environment is defined relative to its specificity.
The Development of the Czech Mobile Phone Operators Market
Urbancová, Eliška ; Svoboda, Roman (advisor) ; Severová, Lucie (referee)
Bachelor thesis deal with the beginning and development of the market of mobile operators after 1990. The main part of the Bachelor's thesis is comparison of the development of prices and the types of services offered by different operators with regard to the gradual filling of the market other new businesses in the branch. A Price Analyses on the Imperfect Competitive Market
Fait, Petr ; MBA, Jiří Rozsíval, (referee) ; Škapa, Stanislav (advisor)
To sum up, Imperfect competitive markets are results of influence of various market factors. They consist of economies of scale, variety of legal restrictions, a high amount of production costs, a product differentiation, a territorial dispersion and an imperfect consumer awareness of the market. Firstly, the principal sorts of imperfect competitors are monopolies, oligopolies and monopolist competition. The ability to stipulate the price of a product is characteristic for these kinds of imperfect competitors. Thus they are called price-makers. These imperfect competitors deal with a diminishing demand curve, in other words there is a dependence of a price on the volume of production. Moreover, this ability is used to maximalize a profit. Referring to the imperfect competitor, the most common method of maximalizing the profit is price discrimination, therefore the company is able to divide its customers into several groups and stipulate a different price of a same product for each of them. Nevertheless, in practice due to above mentioned factors we run across the imperfect competition in most of the cases. In addiction, the imperfect competition might be considered as a theoretical state, which is very similar to share dealing in general.
