Military Aspects of the Imjin War

This thesis deals with Japanese invasion to Korea between years 1592 - 1598, known as Imjin War. The thesis analyses historical development of the conflict and defines basic tactics and strategy with focus on Korean participation in this war and Korean army. The Rise of China and Its Impact on East Asia

History of international relations suggests that rising power brings challenges and creates unstable environment in the international system. This thesis deals with the rise of China and its implications to the East Asia region. China has experienced massive economic growth over the last few decades which is likely to influence the dynamics not only of the region, but also of the international system as a whole. There is an ongoing discussion in the academic literature regarding the rise of China. In this thesis, the offensive neorealism theory of John J, Mearsheimer is employed. This paper focuses on the region of East Asia, namely to Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. Since the region is heavily penetrated by the US power, its position is also discussed. The question is how China will behave when it gets more powerful and what strategies the neighbouring countries choose in order to deal with China's rising power. The theory assumes that rising great power strive to dominate its region in order to establish regional hegemony. The main aim of this thesis is to examine whether or not the aforementioned states act according to the prism of offensive neorealism.
Military Prostitution and its Organization in Colonial Korea

The aim of this work is to describe the issue of military prostitution during the colonial period in Korea. After a brief introduction and terminological and methodological definition, which will define further considerations discussed, paper describes the historical background of military prostitution in colonial Korea. A description of the socio-economic consequences of the historical development with focus on specifics of military prostitution in Korea, resulting from historical and socio-economic context will follow. The work also outlines the issue of legal and illegal prostitution and its place in Korean history in the context of the colonial period. After the theoretical part, the task is to present context, the work will elaborate the issue of military prostitution, focusing on the description of the structure and organization of military prostitution during the Japanese occupation of Korea from its beginnings until its formal repeal, respectively. Perception of Homosexuality in Contemporary Korean Cinema

The main subject of this bachelor's thesis is displaying the homosexuality through korean movies and the perception of homosexuality by the general public. First part is mostly dedicated to korean homosexual community, it's origin, organizations, but also to historical outset that should point at the fact, that Korea was not always such a homophobic country. Second part of the thesis is focused on movie production, it's progression and also on few brief analysis of a concrete movies. Their main plots, characters and what kind of response did they receive from korean public.
Prenatal dreams tchämong in Korea

The aim of this thesis is to present tchämong, a specific Korean dream of conception, that if properly interpretated can provide some information pertaining to the conception and other qualities of the unborn child to the dreamer. This thesis contextualizes tchämong into a broader category of dreams of conception, and then focuses on its specific features in Korea's culture. The fundamental aim of this paper is to exemplify the claim that tchämong is embedded in the system of traditional beliefs, practices and myths, which act as a main factor in continuing this tradition into modern times. The primary focus is given to tchämong within the framework of pregnancy practices and beliefs and close relation between tchämong and myths, which is expressed especially in its symbolism.
Etiquette, Manners and Customs in Korean Society

(in English): The focus of this thesis is to examine Korean customs, manners and etiquette within the life cycle. The aim of this work is not to describe the various rituals from either anthropological or sociological perspective, but to overview customs, rituals and social etiquette rules which that accompany these rituals. The work is divided into four main chapters, including a general description of Korean society, childbirths, wedding ceremonies and finally death and ancestor worship.
The development and function of traditional Korean women's clothing from the early 19th century to the present

This thesis analyses the development of traditional Korean women's clothing from the early 19th century to the present. It briefly describes the different kinds of female hanbok by corresponding occasions or by the status of its owner. It also concerns the themes of symbolism of colours and embroidery. The main objective of the thesis is the characteristics of the changing form and function of traditional female clothing with regard to the developing Korean society. The work is divided into chapters chronologically and covers the period from the late Choseon up to the 21st century.
Reintegration in International Adoptions in ROK

The aim of this thesis is to introduce international adoption issues in Republic of Korea and reintegration of Korean adoptees to Korean society. The first part focuses on history of international adoptions in Republic of Korea, the second part introduces individual reintegration programs of governmental and non-governmental agencies. The third part deals with media and Korean society and government's stance.
History and Developement of Paduk

(česky) The thesis introduces traditional Korean game of paduk, it concerns at its rules, history and nowadays situation with all the players organizations and developement of paduk in Korea and internationally as well. Paduk rules are explained in the first part which follows by the list of the most important and necessary technical and theoretical terms. The next part describes basic strategy and flow of the game, visual demonstrations are included. In the part of Korean historical developement the thesis describes the import to Korean Peninsula and its development in all the historical parts of Korean history from the Three kingdoms to the modern age. There is a special attention on the transformation of the game in the Colonial period (1910 - 1945). During this time the traditional Korean version of the game was left and forgotten, or forced to be forgotten and players have been playing the modern version since then. The modern paduk is shown with foundations of paduk organizations, story of famous masters and the characteristic of Korean paduk in the international field. The focus is also on the almost unknown situation of paduk in DPRK and how it stands in the its society. Im Che's Wonsäng mongjurok and Korean Dream tales

The aim of this thesis is to introduce and analyze not well known literary genre of mongyurok. Literary genre of mongyurok firs appeared in late 15. century on Korean peninsula. This diploma thesis is also focused on analysis of korean scholar Im Che's work called Wǒnsaeng mongyurok. For the purpose of this thesis, there is a typology of the genre mentioned above, created on the basis of seven different works of the genre, described in the first chapter. This typology was used for better analysis of the Wǒnsaeng mongyurok and for comparison of genres of mongyurok and mongjaryu sosǒl.
