Financial Stability Issues and Stress Testing of the Insurance Sector

The purpose of this thesis is to provide an overview of risk and vulnerabilities for financial stability of the European Insurance sector. The methods and principles of risk assessment are examined, as well as their application for the insurance sector. The current macroeconomic situation and its impact on insurers' financial stability is described. Downward changes of interest rates are identified as the biggest current risk. This results from a system-wide stress test conducted by EIOPA (European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority), analysis of sensitivities published by several big European Insurers published on a yearly basis and finally from an econometric analysis of the relationship between market data and changes in macroeconomic variables. Legal and Economic Aspects of Securitisation

186 13 ABSTRACT Theme of this dissertation is "Legal and economic aspects of securisiation". The main goal of the dissertation is to perform a comprehensive legal analysis of the issues relating to transactions, which can be termed securitisations, regarding also related economic aspects, while focusing especially on the analysis of special public law regulation of certain aspects related to securitisation under Czech law. The dissertation contains nine chapters. The first chapter specifies the theme of the work, its content, structure, main sources, goals and methods applied. The second chapter provides the basis for the subsequent legal analyses elaborated within the following chapters, as it deals with the general meaning and purpose of securisitation, its definition under applicable law, a standard structure of securitisation transaction and most common products of securitisation including evaluation of their character under Czech law. The essential issue rests with the interpretation of the general definition of the term securitisation in a way it is accepted in financial sector, it means as a tool of structured finance that covers all possible variations of secturisation transactions, as well as the interpretation of the definition of the term securitisation with respect to special public law...

Current regulation governing acquisition financing Abstract The thesis deals with financing of share deal acquisition operations. The first chapter points out idiosyncrasies of acquisition operations, providing context for the rest of the thesis. The second chapter deals with loan financing, one of the two financing methods described. The chapter starts off with Czech Civil Code's rules governing loans and goes on to provide an overview of stipulations used in corporate banking practice, including the usual arrangement of rights and obligations of lenders and borrower in case of syndicated loans. A subchapter about credit risk rounds off the second chapter. Not restricted to public law regulation, it describes derivatives used to hedge against credit risk and touches upon the influence of regulation on cost of loan financing. The third chapter is about bond financing. It offers a robust overview of Czech rules governing bonds as nominate debt securities and their issue. The consequent subchapter on placement of bonds handled by an investment firm serves as an equivalent of the banking practice- focused subchapter. Pěška, O. The impact of financial leverage on profitability and stability in building societies. Diploma thesis. Brno: Mendel University, 2017. This diploma thesis deals with impact of financial leverage on financial profitability, measured by ROA and ROE, and financial stability, measured by CAR and LIQ, in building societies. The impact will be examined by regressive analysis and for period between years 2006 to 2015 included pre-crise period, crise and post-crise period. Data will be extracted for building societies acting in Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria. The analysis will be executed for individual countries and results will be compared.

This diploma thesis examines the development of the capital adequacy ratio and its determinants during 2006 – 2016 in selected banks of the Visegrad Group. The included determinants are bank size, leverage, return on equity, LTD ratio and NPL. The regression analysis is used. The findings show a positive correlation between bank size and capital adequacy ratio, which are explained by the conservative nature of these banks. The results also confirm the negative impact of the leverage and the LTD ratio on capital adequacy in all Visegrad countries. The impact of return on equity and NPL is different for each country.

Kříčková, V. The Impact of the new Basel III Rules on the Czech Banking Sector. Di-ploma thesis. Brno: Mendel University, 2019. Diploma thesis is aimed at analysis of the new rules of banking regulation Basel III and their impact on the Czech banking sector. It describes the development of the rules issued by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, their structure and then compares their differences. The thesis also presents an analysis of expert studies and empirical research on Basel III and its potential impact on the bank-ing sector and economy. It also deals with the impact of new regulation require-ments on selected indicators of banking sector performance and selected banks. The last part of the thesis deals with an outline of possible future development of banking regulation with a focus on the Czech banking sector.

The diploma thesis deals with impact of regulatory measures on bank credit activity. Banking regulatory frameworks Basel II and III are approximated via selected capital requirements. The empirical analysis is based on a panel regression analysis with fixed effects. The sample consists of 4313 European banks. Determinants of supply are selected indicators of bank characteristics. Factors of demand are taken into account via macroeconomic fundamentals. The impact of monetary policy is examined through a three-month interbank interest rate. The results of the empirical analysis point to the importance of regulatory measures in relation to credit activity. Subsequently, the robustness analysis deals with the closer impact depending on the size of the bank and the operating market.

The subject of this diploma thesis is to carry out the analysis of banking regula-tion on minimum requirement for own funds and eligible liabilities (MREL) and based on this analysis to identify possible impacts on the balance structure of se-lected groups of banks in V4 countries. The main reasons for creating the MREL regulation are defined in the thesis. Furthermore, the thesis describes the devel-opment of banking regulations in connection with the events on the world mar-kets and the expected impacts on the banking sectors of the V4 countries. Based on the data from the annual reports of the selected banks, it is assessed whether the selected banks and their groups have the required amount of regulatory capi-tal.
Financial Analysis of Komerční banka, a. s.

The main aim of the diploma thesis is to perform a financial analysis of Komerční banka, a. s. in sufficient time, to find out its capital adequacy and, in case of deficiencies, to propose measures that would lead to improvement of the situation. To meet this objective, horizontal and vertical balance sheet items, profit and loss account were prepared. In conclusion, the financial situation of the bank was assessed on the basis of selected ratio indicators. The results of all partial analyzes were correlated with the results of three competing banks and the entire banking sector for higher relevance.
Using Rating in Regulation Practice

This master thesis deals with the issue of using rating in the context of determining capital requirements. The focus is on using the Standardised Approach and the Internal Rating-Based Approach to calculate credit risk capital requirements. Different approaches to managing the risk and evaluating the capital adequacy. Criticism of rating agencies as well as the complexity of Internal Rating-Based Approach is taken into account. Furthermore, the thesis discusses the issue of responsibility of external rating agencies for their evaluations, and together with the issue of lacking competition. Various alternatives to external rating are discussed. The internal rating process is discussed in more detail along with the factors which affect rating evaluations of exposures to various entities. Subsequently, the thesis focuses on determining the rate of provision for impairment expected losses on receivables, and a possible impact of accepting IFRS 9 on capital adequacy.
