Whether a concept or model of care is used in the retirement homes; 4. Whether the retirement homes have been awarded the Quality Score in Social Services of the Association of Social Services Providers of the Czech Republic; 5. Who in the retirement home is responsible for coordinating activation; 6. The position and education level of the staff providing activation; 7. Whether there is a sufficient number of activation workers in the retirement homes; 8. Whether the retirement homes have sufficient funds for activation; 9. Whether the retirement homes have a methodology for providing activation; 10. The difficulties related to the provision of activation and therapies in the retirement homes from the point of view of the staff. The objectives set were achieved through a quantitative research strategy. A statistically significant relationship between the seniority of the head of the retirement home and the availability of funding for activation has been demonstrated. There was a statistically significant dependency between the type of the founder and the provision of a concept or the model of care in the retirement homes. A statistically significant correlation between the seniority of the head of the retirement homes and the development of a methodology for providing activation has been demonstrated. The thesis provides a comprehensive view of the issue of activities and therapies implemented in the retirement homes in the Czech Republic. The acquired knowledge will be used as a basis for the preparation of materials and the concept of animal-assisted therapy in the area of care for seniors, on which the author of the thesis would like to participate in the following years in cooperation with non-profit organizations engaged in practicing animal-assisted therapy in the Czech Republic. The results of the thesis will be presented to the Association of Social Service Providers of the Czech Republic, as a professional organization associating providers of social services, in order to use the obtained results in the update and review of the activation documents. The results may be useful for the staff of the retirement homes in the development of the methodology of educational, training and activation activities in the context of community based rehabilitation. Recently, it used to be forgetting the physiotherapy within complex rehabilitation at the retirement home and the home for disabled people. My primary aim is to find out how the importance of physiotherapy is perceived by clients and by employees of the chosen facility. The Thesis is divided into two parts, the theoretical part and the practical part. The theoretical part is divided into several chapters. The first two chapters of the theoretical part are focused on population, which is growing old with regard to material security and finding the meaning of life. Old age is not a disease. It is an evolutionary normal state of every human being. In the next two chapters of the theoretical part there are described chosen homes and their function, their target clients and provided services. Following four chapters deal with tools of rehabilitation, which are connected and they are distinguished by well-timing, compactness, completeness. As a follow-up a chapter which is focused on team cooperation of which is to keep or improve quality of living in the most natural environment and prevent social excluding. The last chapter of theoretical part deals with activation activities which belong to fundamental activities provided within social services and they contribute to maintaining or improving psychological, physical and social state of seniors. The practical part contains the research which investigates clients and emploees´ opinion about physiotherapy, especially its importance during maintaining of locomotor system and its methods which are used at chosen facilities. Employees were also asked about other activation activities which can be used by their clients. The research uses a strategy of the qualitative study with a technique of the half-structured interview. During studying of personal documentation there was used the method which is called the analysis of personal data. The research is concerning six clients of the two homes and three specialized employees who work with the clients. Results of their interviews were compared and evaluated. The principal aim of the Thesis was to find out how clients perceive the importance of physiotherapy at chosen homes and obtain answers to three research questions. The first question occupied with service which is offered to clients at homes within the complex rehabilitation. The second question is focused on the subjective evaluation of service which is provided within the complex rehabilitation. And the last question deals with the employees perception how they perceive physiotherapy in connection with the complex rehabilitation. As it follows from the results, clients have a large choice of activation activities or tools of rehabilitation and that clients are satisfied at their homes. According to the opinion of respondents and employees, physiotherapy is very important in comparison to other activation activities or tools of rehabilitation, like group and individual exercise, which are the most popular. Another participation of clients in activation activities depends on current interest of taking part in activation.

The use of the activating activities in the home for the elderly
JIRSOVÁ, Hana
This bachelor's thesis is about the usage of activation activities. Its main goal is to map activation activities offered in the Home for the Elderly "Máj" and how popular they are. The thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part is further divided into four sections. The first one describes changes connected to getting old. Second section characterizes different kinds of activation activities. Third one describes how to correctly communicate with the elderly; it is important to know how to communicate with the elderly whose hearing or sight are impaired, or with those who suffer from dementia. The last section describes basic types of motivation that affects activity of the elderly. I have chosen qualitative strategy of the research. The research was in-field. Methods used for getting data were extrospective observation and half-structured dialog, method for processing the data was qualitative content analysis. The researched group of people were nine elderly women and three workers from the home for the elderly in the regional town. The research showed that the facility offers wide range of activation activities that may be performed each day - canistherapy, reminiscence, art therapy, psychotherapy, music therapy, ergotherapy - workshops, memory training, <coffee movies>, various cultural events, group games, reading and church services. The elderly are content with the available free time activities. It turns out that all of the approached elderly take part in at least one activity per week. One of the most visited and popular activities is ergotherapy - workshops, where larger groups of the elderly meet regularly. The interest in other activation activities is tied to the interests the elderly had before moving into the home for the elderly. Thanks to these activation activities they do not feel alone, they can meet with others and fulfill their needs. The results of this work can be used as feedback and information for specialists who create activation program in home for the elderly.
Motivational activities for people with Alzheimer's disease
HÁLOVÁ, Jana
Bachelor thesis titled Activation Activities for People with Alzheimer?s disease. Dementia is becoming a social problem, especially in people over 65 years of age. Dementia as a disease begins slowly and quietly. Therefore, patients suffering from it and people around them often confuse it with normal aging. This disease is divided into several types according to its causes. The most common cause of dementia is Alzheimer?s disease. Alzheimer?s disease is one of progredient brain diseases; in humans it is characterized by the disturbance of multiple higher cortical functions, including memory, orientation, thinking, reasoning, understanding, communication skills, and judgment. Early diagnosis and starting the treatment as soon as possible are essential for affecting the course of the disease. The treatment of Alzheimer?s disease is to be approached comprehensively. Pharmacological treatment is important but so are therapies focused on cognitive rehabilitation and activation of the patient. Activation activity means training and consolidation of motor, mental, and social abilities and skills of a person. Activation activities may include ergotherapy, aromatherapy, music therapy, zootherapy, art therapy and more. Family caregivers, who cannot look after a person a person with Alzheimer?s disease, may decide to place the family member in a home with a special regime. Another reason for such placement may be the provision of care in a facility of a standard better than people with dementia could have received at home. At a home with a special regime, a person with Alzheimer?s disease is looked after by nursing staff, medical staff, workers engaged in activation activities, social workers and other therapists; therefore, this professional care for people with dementia is better. Qualitative research, using the methods of a semi-standardized interview, uncontrolled observation, and content data analysis, was chosen for the empirical (practical) part. The research was conducted at the Home with Special Regime in Strakonice and at the Home with Special Regime Na Zlaté stoce in České Budějovice. Thirteen respondents took part in the research. Jobs of the respondents were as follows: a social work instructor in a home with a special regime, a social work instructor in a home for the elderly, a physiotherapist, a direct care worker, an activation activities worker, nurses and a ward sister. The respondents were selected using the snowball sampling method. The research regarding seven respondents, who work with patients suffering from Alzheimer?s disease, took place at the first facility. Six respondents participated in the research at the other facility. Their ages ranged from 27 to 53 years. The objective of this bachelor thesis was to find out the ways in which activities and activation activities change with the progression of Alzheimer?s disease at the facilities for people with dementia syndromes. A partial objective of the thesis was to obtain an opinion of the workers in social services about activation activities most suitable for people with Alzheimer?s disease. Another partial objective was to map the activation activities offered at the two selected facilities with a special regime in South Bohemia. The research question was as follows: Are activation activities for people Alzheimer?s disease performed with regard to the progression of the disease at the selected facilities?
