Representatives of New music in Prague at the turn of the fifties and sixties of the 20th century

This doctor's thesis called Representatives of New music in Prague at the turn of the fifties and sixties of the 20th century focuses on selected Czech composers, instrumentalists as well as chamber ensembles that composed and performed contemporary music and promoted Czech and foreign compositions of the period avant-garde, or so called New music. The publication is dedicated mainly to three composers: Marek Kopelent, Zbyněk Vostřák and Jan Klusák. The book is divided into 8 chapters. New music and its innovations after World War II, Social situation and musical milieu in Czechoslovakia in the 50th, The Beginning of New music in Prague and in selected specialized ensembles, Media reflections in Czech journals and newspapers, three analyses of Czech compositions from the sixties ? orchestral work Contemplations by Marek Kopelent, String quartet no. 2 by Jan Klusák and Affects by Zbyněk Vostřák and final chapter is called The Legacy of sixtieth. There are also two more appendixes ? the interviews with Jan Klusák and Marek Kopelent ? major living representatives of Czech musical avant-garde.
Bohuslav Martinů: Second Concerto for Violin and Orchestra H.293

My paper called Bohuslav Martinů: Second Violin Concerto, original name Concerto pour violon, is divided into five chapters of different lenght and content. The paper firstly provides general information on how the concert was composed, its rendition, recordings and portrayal of the author?s thoughts. This is followed by an in-depth analysis focusing on the formal side of the composition. It was not my aim here to analyse note after note, but to comment on the basic tectonic features and point out the most interesting parts of the score. In these chapters I also pay due attention to the harmonic side, which is a significant component of Martinů?s musical expression. To conclude, I provide some practical information regarding the solo part and its study.
Clarinet´s Concertant Pieces by Viktor Kalabis

My Bachelor Thesis "Clarinet´s Concertant Pieces by Viktor Kalabis" is aimed on life and work of Viktor Kalabis. The first part of my Bachelor Thesis deals with composer´s career and life reflecting into his work. In the second part I write about evolving of his compositional technique and about factors that affected it. Subsequently I mention pieces for clarinet that I divide into two groups. The first of them contains pieces without opus number; these were not determined by the composer to be performed. With more details I write about pieces with opus number that extend contemporary clarinet repertoire. Mainly I deal with interpretation issue of his work for clarinet. In particular analysis of these pieces I wanted to point on progress of his compositional technique and also on Kalabis? characteristic methods that stay still the same.

Czech Composers for Tuba with a focus on the Feérie of Pavel Novák ? Zemek and the Concertino from Evžen Zámečník

In my Bachelor thesis I focused on the Czech composer for tuba with a focus on the Feérie from Pavel Novák Zemek and the Concertino from Evžen Zámečník. My goal was to gather information on the history of the present form instruments, methodologies for tuba playing, Czech tuba school, and Czech composers of works for tuba, which I have analyzed in detail. I tried in my work honestly and clearly express proceed. The work is divided into several chapters, which in some cases contain subsections. The first chapter is devoted to the history of the instrument to the present. The second chapter describes the methodology for tuba playing. The third chapter is about the Czech tuba school. The fourth chapter is called "Czech literature for solo tuba." The fifth and sixth chapter deals with the composer Pavel Novák - Zemek, Evžen Zámečník and their works.

Czech Composers in Exil after second world War

This Master thesis is about the situation in Czechoslovakia after The World War II. It is about impact on the cultural progress, but especially the musical progress.In politically critical years 1948 and 1968 of comunism some musical composers decided to leave their homeland.This thesis is chronologically devided according to years of emigrations of composers.The only exception was Bohuslav Martinů, who acted abroad already before the war from the year 1923 (Paris) until the postwar years.One whole chapter is dedicated to this author. The first chapter deals with the postwar time in Czechoslovakia.Following chapters describes the lifes and works of, in my opinion, the most significant czech composers in emigration:Karel Husa, Karel Janovický, Vilém Tauský, Antonín Tupčanský, Rudolf Komorous, Jan Novák and Petr Kotík.
Viola concertanto works by czech composers after 2nd world war, personality of Zdeněk Šesták

This master´ s thesis aims to familiarize the reader with a rare personality of Czech music, composer and musicologist Zdeněk Šesták. Of his work is here most elaborated his Concerto for Viola and Orchestra "Sokratovské meditace? with the analysis of individual phrases and examples of sheet music, solo part and from the score. The work includes also other Czech composers, representatives of approximately the same generation as Mr. Šesták, but often completely different creative principles. The mainconnecting element is Viola concertanto works - concertos, sonatas, songs, or nontraditional pieces, where this instrument dominates.
