Nursing care for alcohol-intoxicated patients in the traumatology unit
VRCHLAVSKÁ, Aneta
The thesis addresses the issue of nursing care for patients intoxicated with alcohol in the trauma centre, while being divided into two parts, meaning theoretical and practical. The theoretical part focused on defining the field of traumatology, injuries, ethyl alcohol, and the connection between injuries and alcohol. It also provided a description of patient care in traumatology, the specifics of nursing care for alcohol-intoxicated patients, and communication with intoxicated patients, including communication with aggressive patients. The aim of the research part of the thesis was to describe the specifics of nursing care for alcohol-intoxicated patients and to evaluate the communication between the patient and the nurse. Qualitative research was chosen for the research part. Data collection took place through written and verbal methods in the form of semi-structured interviews in early April. Data analysis was conducted using the pen-and-paper method. Subsequently, the data were organized into a system of open coding, comprising three categories and twelve subcategories. The research sample consisted of ten general nurses working in the trauma centre, six in the standard ward, and four nurses in the intensive care unit. The results indicated that except for one nurse, the surveyed nurses regularly encounter patients intoxicated with alcohol in their workplaces. According to the statements of the informants, the most common types of traumas associated with alcohol intoxication include falls, traffic accidents, suicides, assaults, visits to catering establishments or work in construction. Furthermore, the interviews revealed that the surveyed nurses perceive differences in nursing care and communication with patients who have trauma unrelated to intoxication and vice versa. They find the approach to intoxicated patients more demanding in this regard. In the interviews, the nurses mentioned the frequent practice of dealing with aggressive, uncooperative patients. Some nurses admitted that their personal attitudes towards intoxicated patients often influence their approach to these patients. It also emerged from the interviews that the surveyed nurses are not offered any further education in this area. The obtained results provided insights into the specifics of the issue, indicating potential communication shortcomings with patients for correction. The thesis will serve as a resource for creating simulation training scenarios (Appendix 1) to educate general nurses working in the trauma centre.
Biomechanical study of the upper extremity plates
Linhart, Lukáš ; Marcián, Petr (referee) ; Florian, Zdeněk (advisor)
This work deals with the possibilities and principles of fixation of fractures of the upper limb. It is divided into five chapters. The introductory chapter discusses the biomechanics and its inclusion in contemporary science. The next chapter describes a brief history of healing and fixation of fractures of the upper limb. The third chapter is devoted to the anatomy of the upper limb, knowledge of which is the effective fixation of fractures of the upper extremity necessary. Another chapter is devoted to the classification and description of the type of osteosynthesis internal fixation of the upper limb. Furthermore, this chapter discusses the principles and mechanisms of LCP fixation. The last fifth point is detailed study of specific humeral locking plate. To create a computational model was used SolidWorks software and ANSYS Workbench.
Rating scales in traumatology
PROKOPOVÁ, Martina
This diploma thesis is split into two parts - a theoretical and an empirical one. Most of the content of the theoretical part is created by description of individual scales and tests, used for different areas. There are briefly mentioned phenomena of traumatology, the history of trauma centers in the Czech Republic and the nursing care. In this part there is also information regarding nursing documentation which the evaluation scales are part of. The first unit of research part of the diploma thesis was realized in the form of quantitative survey on the basis of semi-structured interviews with nurses working at trauma department. The results of this survey were examined in details with help of categorization and coding. The most important answers of the people surveyed were shown in diagrams, which were created according to the defined categories. For the second unit was chosen quantitative research, performed in the form of non-standardized questionnaire with the total of 110 people surveyed. The results of the questionnaire survey were statistically processed. Regarding the questionnaire survey, five research questions and two hypothesis were identified. The aim of this paper was to research the use of evaluation scales for patients in traumatology and at the same time to map the point of view of nurses on the issue of evaluation scales and their use in nursing. According to the statistical results it is true that the opinion of nurses, regarding the scales, is affected by the length of their praxis and the level of education. The results of the research concluded that evaluation techniques are positively accepted by the nurses. With their help, it is possible to evaluate a patient´s skills, needs and problems with nursing care, in a simple way. According to the survey, nurses did not see some of the scales as objective because in case of some items, there might occur projection of personal perception into the process of evaluation. The reason is the lack of information which nurses are missing when using the scales. The nurses are aware of benefits of using these scales but they do mind the time spent for filling it. The struggle with time is a commonand constant problem the nurses have. It is given by the disproportionate number of tasks caused by the lack of staff. That is the reason why no greater interest can be expected. In traumatology, according to the result, the greater application of scales will be found with VAS and CGS scales.
Case study of physiotherapy treatment of a patient with distortion of ankle joint
Hulinský, Filip ; Maršáková, Kateřina (advisor) ; Nováková, Tereza (referee)
Author: Filip Hulinský Title of the thesis: Case study of physiotherapy treatment of patient with distortion of ankle joint Supervisor: Mgr. Kateřina Maršáková Objectives: The goal of this Bachelor's thesis is to gather and present theoretical knowledge about ankle joint and distortion of this joint. This theoretical information's with addition of practical examination are collaborated to create patients specific case study. Summary: In this bachelor thesis I give attention towards the ankle joint. It is separated into two distinct parts which are theoretical and practical part. First is the theoretical part in which I introduce and present the anatomical, biomechanical, kinesiological, and overall functional structures and aspects of the ankle joint. Further more I dive into reasoning of different types of distortions, its reasoning behind why they occur, and possibilities of treatment. The second part is the practical where you may read about my experience in Centrum léčby pohybového aparátu (CLPA) where I worked with a patient that has suffered the ankle joint distortion. Practical part includes: methodical work, initial kinesiological examinations, treatment plan, day to day therapy where I explain step by step the methods of treatment that I have used and why, and final kinesiological...
Physiotherapy after osteosynthesis of the trimalleolar fracture
Medal, Jakub ; Dudová, Agnieszka (advisor) ; Hankovcová, Eva (referee)
Title of bachelor's thesis: Physiotherapy after osteosynthesis of the trimalleolar fracture. Aims: Concept, execution and evaluation of physiotherapeutic treatment of a patient affected by trimalleolar fracture of the ankle joint. Methods: The thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and special. Theoretical part deals with basic principles of functional anatomy, kinesiology, biomechanics and traumatology of the ankle joint. It also includes information about possibilities of treatment - orthopedical (traumatological) and physiotherapeutic. Special part is focused on a case study of a patient with trimalleolar fracture. Results: Clinical state of the patient after execution of the therapy has improved. The range of movement in disabled ankle joint as well as muscle power of both legs have been increased. Swelling and nociception of the left ankle joint have been reduced. Key words: physiotherapy, traumatology, case study, ankle joint, trimalleolar fracture, osteosynthesis
