The impact of economic status on subjectively perceived happiness of individuals in the Czech Republic
Lepková, Eva ; Wirthová, Jitka (advisor) ; Šrám, Kristián (referee)
This bachelor's thesis explores the impact of wealth on an individual's subjective happiness, delving into how different demographic groups perceive the role of financial resources in achieving personal satisfaction. The primary objective of the study was to understand whether financial wealth contributes significantly to happiness and how these perceptions differ between students and older working adults. The research employed qualitative methods, analyzing data collected through semi-structured interviews with participants from these two distinct demographic groups. The analysis of the interview data revealed nuanced insights into the relationship between wealth and happiness. Consistent with the Easterlin Paradox, findings indicated that beyond a certain threshold, additional wealth does not substantially increase subjective happiness. Moreover, the study highlighted clear differences in attitudes towards money between the two groups: students exhibited less concern for accumulating wealth, prioritizing non- material aspects of well-being such as relationships and personal achievements over financial success. In contrast, older working adults placed a higher value on financial security and its role in facilitating a comfortable lifestyle and ensuring future stability. These findings suggest that...
Impact of socioeconomic and social factors on subjective well-being among Czech population
Tmějová, Kateřina ; Lustigová, Michala (advisor) ; Hanzlová, Radka (referee)
The main concern of this thesis is the impact of selected socioeconomic and social factors on subjective well-being of individuals in the Czech population. This thesis thus explains and describes the concept of well-being and summarizes the factors that can influence it. Using data from survey EU-SILC 2018 of Czechia, the effect of selected socioeconomic and social factors on the level of well-being of an individual is analysed using a multinomial logistic regression method. Both individually and when all selected factors interact. The analysis found that the level of education, the level of income and the quality of housing of an individual significantly affect the level of life satisfaction. The significant effect of an individual's social ties on the level of life satisfaction was found to be the most significant when socioeconomic and social factors impacted on the level of life satisfaction. Another objective was to analyse the relationship between an individual's life satisfaction and self-rated health. This relationship was found to be reciprocal, meaning that the level of life satisfaction of an individual has an impact on his subjective health evaluation and vice versa. The thesis also compares the prevalence of life satisfaction of the Czech population with other populations that also...
Factors affecting prevalence of pain among European population
Míšková, Markéta ; Lustigová, Michala (advisor) ; Žejglicová, Kristýna (referee)
Pain is a part of many people's lives and can also affect them in significant ways. This paper examined various factors that are related to the prevalence of pain in the European population. The aim was to identify these factors and describe the differences between the population groups. The analyses involved individuals aged 20 years and older who participated in the 2019 European Health Interview Survey. The association between selected demographic, sociodemographic and socioeconomic factors, as well as between lifestyle factors and pain prevalence, was analyzed using chi-square tests and binary logistic regression. Attention was also paid to the relationship between mental health and pain prevalence. It was found that women are more prone to the occurrence of pain as well as persons of advanced age. Although married people show a lower risk of suffering from pain, the impact of living with a partner on the incidence of pain is quite contradictory. The association between this variable and pain prevalence varies depending on control variables. More educated persons are less likely to report prevalence of pain. In turn, unhealthy lifestyle activities, other than alcohol consumption, are considered to be risk factors. Also, individuals with severe symptoms of depression have a higher likelihood of...
Environmental catalysers of economic distress-induced self-harm
Lauko, Adam ; Šlegerová, Lenka (advisor) ; Votápková, Jana (referee)
This thesis examines the relationship between the unemployment rates and suicide rates in Czech and Slovak districts from 2002 to 2020 by fixed effects model. The thesis found a positive link between the male suicide rate and the unemployment rate. For the female suicide rate, the link was insignificant. It was found that the moderating effect of built-up areas was estimated as negative, while the effect of population density was positive. These findings were only partially according to the literature, as we expected that both effects will be negative. The moderating effects of greenery and divorce rate were estimated as insignificant. However, the validity of these findings is questionable, as the goodness of fit measures are poor and were increased only after increasing the level of aggregation from NUTS4 to NUTS3
Development of socio-economic factors on the development of land use in the selected locality
MAXA, Ondřej
The main goal of this thesis was to evaluate the development of socio-economic factors depending on the development of land use in the village Chvalšiny. This analysis was carried out over the last thirty years, i.e. from 1991-2021. This time was divided into four periods - 1991, 2001, 2011 and 2021. The reason for this division was the availability of data from the Census of Population, Houses and Apartments, which is held every ten years. To determine developmental changes over time, the results of the mentioned Census of Population, Houses and Apartments (socio-economic factors) and archival orthophoto maps (land use) on the ČÚZK geoportal were used, specifically the viewing service WMS - Archival Orthophoto. Individual partial works, connected with the development of final map outputs, took place in the ArcGIS Pro program (a newer version of the ArcMap program). The results of selected socio-economic factors (9) were processed in the form of tables in the Microsoft Excel program. During the practical part, it was found that the municipality of Chvalšiny shows favorable values in the long term in terms of socio-economic indicators, and in the near future it should not face problems that could lead, for example, to the depopulation of the municipality. In terms of land use, there has been a noticeable change when over the years up to 95 % of the original arable land area has been converted to permanent grassland (TTP) and today only 24.6 hectares of arable land can be found in this area. An unambiguous mutual relationship between the development of socio-economic factors and the development of land use, where it would be possible to clearly state that one of the indicators has a clear impact on land use or vice versa, could not be demonstrated in this time period.
Health literacy in the Czech population - factors related to phases of health information processing
Polcrová, Anna ; Kučera, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Žejglicová, Kristýna (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the topic of health literacy level in the Czech population and its association with sociodemographic and lifestyle factors. The aim was to describe this association in the stages of health information processing, which are the stages of finding, understanding, judging and application of health information. The data from the Czech modification of the HLS-EU survey from 2014 was used. Lower level of health literacy was associated with older age, lower level of education, as well as lower self-assessed social status at all stages of health information processing. Lower self- assessed health condition was also associated with lower level of health literacy, especially in the phases of understanding and application of health information. Regarding the lifestyle factors, the association was determined in case of physical activity, most notably in the phases of understanding and application of health information. The association was also determined in the case of body mass index, but only in phases understanding and judging. Differences in health literacy levels between smoking categories as well as between gender were not been determined. Regarding the difference between phases of health information processing, the judging of health information seems to be the most risk.
Departure of Voters from Traditional Parties to the New in Parliamentary Election
Lišková, Kristýna ; Jeřábek, Hynek (advisor) ; Buchtík, Martin (referee)
This Bachelor thesis analyzes the departure of the voters from the traditional parties to the new parties, specifically the departure of the ČSSD and the ODS voters in the elections to the Chamber of Deputies in 2010, to the ANO party in the elections in 2013. The voters are influenced by many factors, especially belonging to a social classes, their age, education, awareness and the left or the right wing orientation. The thesis describes the entry of the new party on the Czech political scene and its influence of electoral preferences. The author analyzes the variables in the context of the election of the respondents in 2010 and 2013. There was a classical division into two large groups of voters (voters of ČSSD and ODS) in 2010, but in the elections to the Chamber of Deputies in 2013, the number of voters diverted from traditional parties because of their dissatisfaction and they voted ANO. The part of the voters of the traditional parties moved to ANO especially because of its election program or because of the party theme. There is a movement of left-wing and right-wing voters to ANO party. Voters in a different age, different educated voters or class affiliation have moved to ANO party. On the many points of view, ANO seems as a typical catch-all party, which is reflected not only by the...
