Representative Problems Faced by Beginning Teachers of Russian and Czech

The theoretical part focuses on the aspects of the teaching profession and teacher's competencies, followed by a description of beginning teachers of the Czech language and Russian as a second foreign language. This thesis also summarises the most common problems faced by these teachers. In the practical part, these problems are compared by a semi-structured interview with beginning teachers. In these days, beginning teachers of Czech and Russian are faced with problems related to the integration of arrived Ukrainian pupils in the context of the war in Ukraine. Most respondents point to the same gaps in the university preparation, namely the problematic form of internships, teaching of professional subjects, didactics, pedagogy and psychology. As for the introduction to the position, the most common form of support is the introducing teacher, who was assigned to most of the respondents, but cooperation was often formal or otherwise dysfunctional. Beginning teachers of Czech and Russian have the same issues with the textbook series, that they must use, and with the pupil evaluation. European language policy and some aspects of its implementation in the Czech Republic

This thesis deals with the implementation of the European language policy in the Czech Republic, specifically in the area of basic education. In the first part are defined basic concepts, especially language policy, language planning and language management. Furthermore, the work described principles of European language policy and the concept of bi/ multilingualism. The second part is devoted to a specific form of European language policy in the Czech Republic, especially in the area of basic education. The fundamental legal and curricular documents on this topic are described. Qualitative research aims to explore the decision making processes of heads of schools in teaching foreign languages. The work examines what has influence on these decisions and how they are formed. Factors influencing relations between the German language and high school students

The thesis deals with factors which could influence a relation between high school students and German language. It surveys factors influencing the choice to study German as foreign language and also factors affecting their relationship with the subject. One of the topics is a classification of German in the language system and describing forms of its occurrence. Between the particular factors impacting a decision which language should be studied is for example the possibility to utilize this language in a future career or living in the German speaking countries included. It also delves into the influence of the common history between Czechs and Germans. The student can be affected by a teacher, not only in the positive, but also in the negative way during their school years. The thesis also studies how the difficulty of the German language impacts its learning process and compares the effects to English. These two languages are also compared at the primary school and high school levels, while the focus is primarily on the length of the schooling and the achieved language level.
