Radar Altimeter for Ultramicro Airplanes
Svitana, Ján ; Maršík, Lukáš (oponent) ; Zemčík, Pavel (vedoucí práce)
Radar systems have been an integral part of aviation since its inception. Over time, they have evolved into devices that we use routinely in our lives. They are much more accessible and affordable for use for a variety of purposes. This thesis deals with the design of an altimeter based on millimeter-wave radar that could be fitted to an ultralight aircraft as an indicator of flight altitude during landing maneuvers for beginners as well as experienced pilots, which would also be affordable. The thesis focuses mainly on the use of millimeter-wave radar manufactured by Texas Instruments. For the acquisition and processing of the radar data and its subsequent audio interpretation in the form of an intermittent tone, for the sake of compactness, a single board computer from the Raspberry Pi Foundation is chosen. The aim of this thesis is to design a system that indicates the distance of the aircraft above the surface by an intermittent audio signal at an appropriate rate. The radar module generates point clouds, which are processed by the Raspberry Pi computer. These are analysed and further transformed to send the appropriate sound representation of the perpendicular height of the aircraft relative to the Earth's surface. As a result, a working sample of such a device has been created.
