This diploma thesis presents a new set of reactions in the field of catalytic C-C bond activations in substrates containing strained rings and their subsequent functionalization in reactions with the triple bond of alkynes resulting in a rapid and straightforward synthesis of regioselectively substituted polyaromatic derivatives. Within this work, the first procedure allowing for selective activation of C-C bond in unsymmetrically substituted systems (1-azabiphenylenes) with respect to the strained ring and their reactions with substituted alkynes following the pathway of cyclotrimerization has been developed. The site of the insertion of the alkynes can be varied employing some catalytic systems based on iridium and rhodium complexes (scheme 1). This method enables easy, straightforward and effective synthesis of benzoquinoline derivatives, which are often used in many fields of chemistry.
