Analysis of extreme values
Vyhlídka, Jan ; Hendrych, Radek (advisor) ; Antoch, Jaromír (referee)
The goal of this thesis is to introduce basic concepts of the extreme value theory. The first chapter describes two fundamentally different approaches - block maxima and peaks over threshold models. Furthermore, it presents generalized extreme value distribution and generalized Pareto distribution. Moreover, relevant theorems and characteristics that are tied to these probabilistic distributions are discussed. The second chapter is a survey of various methods of parameter estimation of discussed distributions. The last chapter shows a simple application of how extreme value theory can be applied in finance on selected shares listed on the Prague Stock Exchange.

Limits to the Efficiency of the Capital Market
Vyhlídka, Jan ; Pošta, Vít (advisor) ; Lopušník, Ondřej (referee)
The aim of this study is to gather insights into market efficiency and mechanisms that work in the financial markets. It provides a framework with an emphasis on liquidity and the failure of arbitrage that deepens our understanding of various financial crises. Described mechanisms are particularly relevant for the last financial crises - including 2007-2009, LTCM, and dot-com bubble. In the first chapter the concept of efficient markets is introduced. In the second chapter it is challenged from the point of view of noise trader theory and limits of arbitrage. The third chapter deals with market microstructure and liquidity. Last chapter shows importance and adverse effects of externalities, particularly of those causing liquidity spirals.
Monte Carlo Simulation and Financial Planning
Vyhlídka, Jan ; Hnilica, Jiří (advisor) ; Sieber, Patrik (referee)
The purpose of this paper is to clarify the Monte Carlo method, related time series forecasting and their application within the Crystal Ball environment. The theoretical part explains the way how to define the assumptions and the fundamental principles behind it. The application part demonstrates the forecasting of revenues and costs of RWE Transgas,a.s. on the basis of the average monthly temperatures, the prices of oil derivatives and the changes in the exchange rates.
