Oral contraceptives and their unwated effects

The thesis contains an overview of contraceptive options with advantages and disadvantages of each method. It is mainly focused on oral hormonal contraception and its adverse effects. The beginning of this thesis deals with the female sex hormones (natural and synthetic) in general and their effect in the body. The second part focuses on oral hormonal contraceptives, the history of its development, its classification, an overview of products, a mechanism of action, positive side effects and contraindications and interactions. Larger separate chapter discusses the adverse effects of oral contraceptives, their severity and possible solutions. There are described the most common reasons for discontinuation of contraception, classification of adverse effects, causes of their emergence, the influence of the invention of modern preparations on risk, the factors that increase the risk further. Finally other contraception methods are described (hormonal and non-hormonal), their benefits and risks, a reliability comparison with the oral hormonal contraceptives and available contraceptives in our market.
