Study of oxygen and ozone reactions on the surface of solid materials
Staněk, Filip ; Sťahel, Pavel (referee) ; Mazánková, Věra (advisor)
This bachelor’s thesis is concerned with the study of ozone and oxygen on the surface of solid substances. Ozone, one of the forms of oxygen, is a highly reactive molecule that is particularly known thanks to its disinfectant properties. The theoretical part of this work describes the fundamental properties of ozone, the technological applications, the synthesis of this gas and the mechanism of the reactions on the surface of some materials. The experimental part consists of a number of experiments that are focused on the formation and degradation of ozone on the surface of a glass cuvette. Ozone was, for our purposes, generated by DBD, its concentration was measured by absorption spectrometry.
Testing the Presence of Adaptive Switching Behavior in Equity Markets
Staněk, Filip ; Kukačka, Jiří (advisor) ; Švarcová, Natálie (referee)
In many financial agent based models, the concept of adaptive switching be- havior is employed as a substitute for the, elegant yet unrealistic, assumption of rational expectations. Studies estimating these models however frequently suggest that agents do not behave adaptively. To better understand the source of this discrepancy, we propose a test for the presence of switching which does not require us to specify beforehand the exact form of the switching mecha- nism nor the strategies among which agents can choose. We verify the ability of the test to detect switching by Monte Carlo simulations and then apply it to stock prices from the New York Stock Exchange. The null hypothesis of the absence of switching is strongly rejected. Furthermore, we assess robustness of this finding by applying the test individually to various sub-sets of the data-set. The switching is prevalent in all considered sub-periods and in all groups of stocks categorized by traded volume. The Impact of the Tobin Tax in a Heterogeneous Agent Model of the Foreign Exchange Market
Staněk, Filip ; Kukačka, Jiří (advisor) ; Klinger, Tomáš (referee)
In this thesis, we assess the impact of the Tobin tax on key statistics of exchange rate returns with use of a heterogeneous agent based model. The answer to the question of how transaction costs affect exchange rate dynamics is not only interesting from a theoretical point of view but also has practical implications as several regulators are contemplating imposition of such a tax nowadays. Motivated by the recent research showing the great importance of the mar- ket micro structure, we choose to explore the impact of the tax in a market cleared by the Walrasian auctioneer. This settings, as we argue, could resem- ble the two layered structure of the real foreign exchanges more closely than a price impact function which is often adopted in studies regarding the Tobin tax. To assess the impact of the tax, we extend the model of De Grauwe & Grimaldi (2004) by the inclusion of transaction costs. The original model con- sists of boundedly rational agents who use a blend of fundamental and technical analysis to predict the future exchange rate. An ongoing competition between the forecasting rules creates chaotic price movements not dissimilar to the ones observed in the real foreign exchanges. We use computational methods to assess the effect of the Tobin tax within the model and find that the Tobin tax is...
Strategy of an Enterprise
Staněk, Filip ; Kovář, František (advisor) ; Koreš, Milan (referee)
The subject of this thesis is to process a future development strategy of a specific firm based on its strategy analysis. The thesis consists of theoretical and practical part, where the theoretical part describes methods and procedures, which are subsequently used in the practical part. The practical part then analyses external and internal environment of the company, based on which SWOT analysis is created. A proposal of the firm's future development is put together from the obtained data, which also corresponds with the mission and vision of the company, and is described further in more detail within the functional strategies of the individual strategy business units. At the end, the chosen strategy is evaluated from the perspective of suitability, acceptability and viability.
