Modification and analysis of low-molecular chitosans
Moravcová, Dagmar ; Bosáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Strašák, Tomáš (referee)
4 Abstract Chitosan is a natural biopolymer derived from chitin, found in the exoskeletons of crustaceans and fungi. It has gained considerable attention due to its biodegradability, biocompatibility, antimicrobial properties, and potential antitumor activities. Chitosan has cationic amino groups that enable interactions with various anionic compounds. Therefore, it is an ideal candidate for conjugation with monovalent bioactive compounds to form efficient multivalent conjugates. It was found that galectins, especially Gal-1 and Gal-3, are overexpressed in tumor cells. Several monovalent inhibitors derived from the parent inhibitor thiodigalactoside, also those modified with coumaryl groups, have been synthesized, which show a high selectivity and affinity towards Gal-3. The main goal of this work was to synthesize a chitosan-based carrier and conjugate it with ligands exhibiting selectivity and inhibitory effect towards Gal-3. The first step involved the modification of chitosan using a unique effective method based on solid-phase hydrolysis, which significantly reduces the consumption of chemical materials and, in addition, excessive losses during purification. At the same time, the chitosan carrier was functionalized with pentynoic acid. Furthermore, monovalent galectin ligands,...
Amine-functionalized Porous Polymers for Selective CO2 Adsorption.
Setničková, Kateřina ; Jeřábek, Karel ; Strašák, Tomáš ; Soukup, Karel
Porous materials have always attracted high scientific interest because of their outstanding performance and potential applications in various fields, including adsorption and gas separation. Hyper-crosslinked polymers (HCLPs) have several advantages over other porous materials, they show extremely high surface areas and porosity, low density, outstanding adsorption properties, high chemical, and thermal stability.\nHerein, we reported a synthesis, characterization, and the CO2 (and other gases) adsorption performance of series of novel styrene-divinylbenzene based HCPs. The material was prepared in two steps. The first step involved the radical copolymerization of divinylbenzene (DVB) and 4-vinylbenzyl chloride (VBC), under solvothermal condition to generate porous polymers with high surface area above 700 m2 g−1. In the second step, various polyamine species were applied to react with the alkyl chloride groups and functionalize the pore surface\nto improve the CO2/N2, CO2/CH4 and CO2/H2 selectivity.

Dialytic Separation of Anions from DMSO Solution Facilitated by dendritic Receptors.
Cuřínová, Petra ; Winkler, Maximilian ; Krupková, Alena ; Budka, J. ; Wun, Ch.N. ; Blechta, Vratislav ; Červenková Šťastná, Lucie ; Sýkora, Jan ; Strašák, Tomáš
As the dialytic tubing is impermeable for big molecules of receptor, the anions crossing the barrier of dialytic tubing to form complex with the receptor stay entrapped inside and can be removed from the solution. NMR methods were used to study the complexation properties of given receptors as well as to determine the concentration changes during dialytic experiments.

Preparation and Physicochemical Properties of [6]Helicenes Fluorinated at Terminal Rings.
Církva, Vladimír ; Jakubík, Pavel ; Žádný, Jaroslav ; Vacek, J. ; Strašák, Tomáš ; Hrbáč, J. ; Císařová, I. ; Storch, Jan
Two fluorinated helicenes, tetrafluoro[6]helicene and octafluoro[6]helicene were prepared photochemically and their physicochemical and optical properties were investigated. A separation of racemic tetrafluoro[6]helicene into individual enantiomers (P and M) was performed and the racemization barrier was determined. Crystal structures of major synthetic products including individual enantiomers of tetrafluoro[6]helicene were determined showing the replacement of π-π and CH-π interactions by CH-F interactions with increasing fluorine substitution. DFT calculation were performed to get an insight into the charge distribution and HOMO-LUMO gap.

Carbon-Carbon Couplings between Chemically Equivalent or almost Equivalent Nuclei.
Blechta, Vratislav ; Strašák, Tomáš ; Sýkora, Jan
We present here a modification of the above experiment with the aim of increasing the sensitivity. This can be achieved by 2D J-resolved refocused INADEQUATE without decoupling during preparation period but with decoupling during acquisition and equilibrium periods. The experiment is discussed with respect to the sensitivity and influence of strong couplings.
