Schlaichert, Miroslav ; Poláková, Dora (advisor) ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (referee)
(in English): The aim of this diploma thesis is to analyse the Dominican identity in the works of the Dominican author Marcio Veloz Maggiolo. At first, the thesis briefly summarizes the evolution of the Dominican literature and mentions its most significant figures. Secondly, it deals with the evolution of the dominicaness from the colonial period up to the present and explains the reasons of the rooted antihaitianism. The second part consists of a detailed analysis of the novels The Diffuse Biography of Sombra Castañeda and The Accordion Man by Marcio Veloz Maggiolo, emphasizing the symbols of the official government's discourse, and also a more opened perspective of the dominicaness.
Inspiration in Graffigny's Lettres d'une Péruvienne within the context of the French Enlightenment

The present bachelor's thesis analyzes one of the most famous French 18th century novels. Lettres from a Peruvian Woman are, as to its form, an epistolary novel and, as for its genre characteristics, an example of the sentimental and philosophical tradition. The aim of this work is, above all, to ascertain how the author was inspired by all of these traditions. First we will delimit the epistolary novel and, subsequently, specify the two basic types which were commonly used during the 18th century. Later on we will focus on the historical, philosophical and sentimental side of the novel and show author's masterful ability to make it one well- functioning literary unit. At the end we will focus on the novel's denouement and its interpretation in which the sense-sensibility dichotomy is present. As to the results, we find out that Graffigny composed a novel which constitutes an organical unit of well-communicating traditions.
