Teaching economics as part of general education in the Czech Republic
Smrčková, Jana ; Tichá, Milena (advisor) ; Havlínová, Ivana (referee)
Dissertation work on topic Teaching economics as part of general education in the Czech Republic comes out of supposition that economics has, in the context of other social sciences, only marginal significance which is enhanced by negative attitude of students and teachers as well. The issue of teaching economics is perceived in the complex of relations between theory and practice. First part of my dissertation work isdedicated to incorporation of economics into educational curriculum and in new A levels exams. First part of dissertation also concerns with methodical support of curriculum (textbooks, projects and other materials). Critical evaluation and analysis of available materials make up the basis of the first part which is accompanied by existing situation of teaching economics and by essential vocabulary of most important terms. The main finding of theoretical examination is the fact that there is a vast amount of these materials, but they are not always suitable (particularly we find that there is little choice of suitable and up-to-date textbooks). Second part of my dissertation work is based on questionnaire survey whose aim was to find out how teaching economics appears in educational reality. In questionnaire survey was preferred perspective of attitudes (attitudes of teachers and their...

Meta-analysis of methodological artifacts of the phylogenetic imbalance.
SMRČKOVÁ, Jana
The influence of possible methodological artifacts (e.g. type of data or tree construction methods) on the tree topology was evaluated. A total of 413 phylogenetic trees was downloaded from the tree repository TreeBASE. Three indices of topology imbalance were employed, namely, Fusco & Cronk index, weighted average, and Colless index. The study reveals that methodological artifacts have probably a weak influence on the tree shape. Therefore, patterns in tree balance could reflect macroevolutionary processess, not a methodological bias.
The art as a marketing tool
Smrčková, Jana ; Černá, Jitka (advisor) ; Leiss, David (referee)
The goal of this thesis is to present the reader with a more comprehensive picture of using the art as a marketing method. The fundamental focus is dedicated to poster art, from its origins (as a tool for bringing the goods and services closer to the public), up to its contemporary role and many possibilities of this advertising tool. The thesis further covers more forms and combinations of art and marketing, like interconnection of graphic design with corporate identity. As the standards of the graphic design in the Czech Republic are very high, the author concentrates mainly on domestic creative activities and presents concrete examples of corporate identities. The analytic chapter of the thesis is presented by a questionnaire research of public orientation in the matter. The target of the analysis was to discover, whether an how the art and marketing interconnection affects people, what they think about it and what particular (hence most successful) projects are taken in public awareness.
