Contemporary Trends in Early Childhood Education and Care in England

This paper examines current trends and developments in the early childhood care and education system in England. The aim of the thesis is to provide a comprehensive understanding of English early childhood education. The thesis focuses on the current anchoring of early childhood care and education in the English education system. It provides an analysis and deeper insight into the circumstances of the emergence, progress and direction of current reforms and trends. The thesis is framed by a qualitative research paradigm while the research design is a single country case study using content analysis of documents, semi-structured expert interviews and participant observation. The thesis captures the historical background to English early childhood education and its influence on the creation of the current situation. It has focused on analysis of external (European) and internal influences on educational policy in England and their reflection in curriculum development documents. The thesis also thematises the developments in workforce policy and their impact on the contemporary situation of early years professionals. Implementation of the Learning Stories Method in a Czech Nursery School

The diploma thesis focuses on the Learning Stories method and its implementation in a Czech pre-school. Its aim is to explore, document, and analyse how the Learning Stories method is applied into a Czech pre-school as a part of the process of formative assessment. The theoretical part defines assessment in the pre-primary education - its content, and characteristics. Selected assessment tools used in a Czech pre-primary education are introduced. The theoretical part then focuses on the definition of the formative assessment in both Czech and foreign literature, and on the analysis of the Czech Statutory Pre-primary Educational Framework in the relation to the formative assessment. It also describes theoretical background of the Learning Stories method and its use within the international pre-primary education. The empirical part presents the aims of the research project - its methodology and results. Research data were acquired from a content analysis of learning stories and from semi- structured interviews with teachers who have been working with the LS method. Approaches to Early English Language Learning in Pre-school Facilities

The thesis deals with a topical and at the same time controversial isssue in the pre- shool education - the very early foreign language learning. The aim of the thesis is to outline the conditions of English language learning in pre-school facilities in the Czech Republic (more precisely in Prague) and analyse and compare selected methods used for teaching English. The thesis consists of the theoretical and the practical part. The theoretical part focuses on early language learning in the Czech and European context, on curriculum conditions and teachers' qualification in the Czech Republic and on the individual particularities of a pre-school child in relation to the early language acquisition. The summary will offer various opinions and results of researches in the field of early foreing language learning in the pre-school age. The aim of the practical part is to compare two methods for teaching English and survey the present conditions of English learning in selected pre-school facilities in Prague.
